      Your doing good, researching. I'd recommend a medium quality/price one to start... the experience will aid further research for a replacement with function/features you like. Of course there's argument to get a high end stick to start too tho.
      Happy flying : )

    With some craftmanship you could cut out a hole in your table matching the size of the mongoose base, and then attach a surface for it to rest on underneath the table.
    That way you counter the base height if you really want to use it on a table and not on a mount.

  • @nethermead

    I was never happy with any of my joysticks -- Logitech Extreme 3D, Thrustmaster T16000M, and Thrustmaster Warthog -- so I gave the VKB Gladiator NXT a shot and I've been extremely happy with it. It's not as expensive or as full-featured as a Virpil, it's still around $150, but it's solid, precise, and robust with everything I was missing on the other sticks. I'd love to see D2EA give it a look. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

    • @realnaste
      @realnaste Před rokem

      you can upgrade it to have all these features by swapping out the base when you have extra cash ;) Just go to a hotas subreddit or contact VKB support if you need help with doing that. (I think you could even get similar results by just getting the upgrading to evo kit, but I'm not entirely sure...)

    This is a great showcase of why Virpil is one of the best, if not the best. What an elegant solution to a real issue that's cropped up with the (re)emergence of the space sim.
    Thanks for making such a detailed break down, I wouldn't have even known of the full functionality of this base otherwise.

    • @spider0804

      @davidnickisson2555 Před rokem

      @@spider0804 VKB's clutches can be damage by overtightening, which is easy to do without realizing. Virpil's design is far more robust, as well as convenient, seeing as everything, including springs and cams, can be changed while still mounted

    Phew...that was close. When I saw you pull the throttle towards use and say full throttle, insinuating forward, I was concerned that you were some sort of reverse throttle psychopath. But I see now that the throttle is facing the camera. Sheesh, don't scare me like that man.

    *The idea to use the left stick as a proper throttle isn't new,* my VKB have that option too, but it's *not as handy as it seems and here is why:*
    Disabling the spring-centering means you will struggle centering the ship perfectly enough to make it stop (unless you want to add a big deadzone), so you would also need to switch from for/back thrust function to just for thrust function, and none of these adjustments can be done on-the-fly, so it really just becomes a throttle replacement for those who want to use it as a HOSAS in some games and a HOTAS in others and don't mind constantly changing adjustments for it.
    I agree with those people who use HOSASAT, especially when you get a throttle with plenty of buttons on it, or at least a multi function module with a slider or 2, it just feels the most "complete" and on top you can fly traditional flight sims with it.

    Anyone notice that the cm3 isn’t coated in oil internally like the cm2 was? Guessing they changed some materials to get rid of the oil bc of the clutches?
    The exchangeable CAM pieces that allow you to tune the center and force application (aviasim, etc) also seem to be made of a different material. The CM2’s CAMs look and feel like steel (more weight with grainy tool steel look) while the ones that came with the cm3 look and feel like aluminum.
    Noticed it immediately when I saw the baggy holding the CM3 CAMs. No oil on them in the bag (like with cm2), and prob 30-40 percent lighter.
    With the cm2, you get oil all over your hands when you change cams.

    Unfortunately Virpil didn’t learn from their collective and the clutches are not lubricated so they introduce a big stiction problem, which is really not good, especially on the primary control, VKB lubricate or at least show you how to do it with Nyogel 767a on their stick bases.

  • @DD-sw1dd
    @DD-sw1dd Před 7 měsíci

    I have the CM2, but that clutch really has me on the verge of ordering a cm3.
    I love the cm2’s quality, but its something you REALLY have to get used to with the longest 200mm extension and the rebound force (since their is no clutch in the cm2). Small over movements and rebounds cause larger deviations. Ordering this base will have me flying other aircraft a lot more.
    Ever since I got the RealSimulator Lightning base and RS F-16 grip it’s been hard to go back to anything other than F-16 due to the perfection of that base.
    The CM3 would fix that issue for all other aircraft that don’t have a pressure sensitive stick and instead rely on traditional stick movements.
    I’m one of those guys that prefer replica hotas’ over 1 setup for everything.
    PS. Well….temptation won the day. Just ordered considering Xmas sale was going on.

    If only that base wasn't so tall. No way that would be comfortable on a table. I have an adustable table and in its lowest position, my way skinnier X52 is already borderline (would like to have it even lower, by a cm or two)

    I don't know, more and more I see people playing space games swear by their HOSAS, and people not running it are either still on the fence or don't want to spend the money on a switchover. This honestly looks like the ideal setup, but it's difficult for me to justify the upgrade when I already have a Constellation Alpha and the CM3 Throttle. Like if I had the old Constellation Alpha in one hand and the Constellation Alpha Prime in the other, wouldn't that feel weird?

    Thanks for the video. I understand the idea behind it, but i'm not convinced. There is too much complexity in the base design requiring us to mess with mechanical parts, which will then allow VIRPIL to shift blame to the user if something does not work properly. Also we don't know if the tight setup would continue to operate smoothly with time; it likely will just loosen and won't work properly as a throttle anymore. Ppl who want a throttle should be able to get a throttle, not have to put up with this half thought out mess. VIRPIL should simply make either a right-handed version of MongoosT-50 throttle (thumb buttons on the left) or design an ambidextrous throttle (with zero or very few thumb buttons) to allow us left-handed users to make a stick(L)+throttle(R) setup. For the price point of the MongoosT-50CM3 throttle, there is really no excuse for them no to have a right-handed version, as they have with the Constellation Alpha stick. For reasons of interoperability (throttle from different manufacturer not working with VIRPIL stick or panels) I'm not buying any VIRPIL hardware until they come up with a throttle i can use. It's a pity, really, because they do have otherwise very high design and manufacturing standards.

      @@DowntoEarthAstronomy so you would say companies in russia/belarus who have yellow and blue colors in a logo and/or a dove should not be affected by sanctions? If someone is against this war they show it and be proud of it. Its a manufacturing company - release a limited edition joystick with yellow blue and donate all money from sales of those joysticks to Ukrainian forces. More over - I can even explain WHY there is yellow and blue there - because that shop VIRPIL EU is ran by Lithuanians (check contacts and see telephone code) if you go to their COM version of the page - there is no yellow or blue or doves...

      @@grandpatom190 You're being rather naive here, they're normal people and they have been as vocal as they can regarding their stance, they mentioned previously that the factory operates in a free economic zone as well, so no taxes are paid to the local gov. If their factory steps too far out of line they'll get arrested or worse. The company will be gone, they'll all lose their jobs and we'll lose one of the best manufacturers in this space. As you said, they're a worldwide company anyway and their team is in Lithuania, UK and now the USA as well.

For allowing attacks on ukraine from belorussian soil? @@grandpatom190 yes you're being naive and you're just virtue signalling.
      You should research what a "free economic zone" is and they've made risks to publicly show support. They said they have Ukrainians on their team as well, an update they had a while ago on their site said they have hundreds of employees all around the world. I guess they should just throw all that away because in your mind, if they're not putting their employees lives on the line they're just as bad as the Russian soldiers committing warcrimes on Ukrainian soil.
      You're making horrible and baseless accusations just so you can act morally superior on the internet.
