Bell was considered the helmet of choice when I started biking. One school friend had a Shoei because it had a much deeper visor opening than the Tourstar which helped with his glasses. Of course we all had to take the Mikey; but it was his helmet of choice until he moved to cars.

Find a large parking lot where there is no traffic and every time you ride your bike, go to that parking lot and practice your figure 8s, circles, u-turns, starts and stops, right and left turns... it pays off. Enjoyed your share. I just purchased an RF 1400 Shoei helmet and love it so much!

When I began riding, my father taught me about “head and eyes” in motorcycle riding. Deliberately pointing your whole head and your eyes all the way through a corner and at your exit. It helped me immensely. If you watch the racers, their heads and eyes are pointed all the way around the oncoming corner and right where they want to end up. There’s lots of videos and info on this online.

That’s so important when learning to ride. Look where you want to go!

Just subscribed because I also live in Austin and bought my first bike about a year ago. Cool to see you riding the same streets I ride every Saturday and Sunday morning! Welcome to the riding community!

You’ll get used to turns like that in no time! You’ll be hunting tighter turns before you know it! Love the sound of your bike!

Many moons ago when I first looked into purchasing a premium quality helmet I was told that a person usually has either a Shoei or Arai shaped head. I have owned both brands and definitely prefer Shoei. Great helmets.

Arai was my second choice ;)

We all should wear ear plugs as well as quiet helmets.
Good Aerodynamics means less kneck problems.
Ive had a Shoei Air for a few years. Riding at very high speeds it performs well. After riding for decades since 1972
I have tinnitus and a problem kneck, so my advice is ear plugs, best helmet you can afford. Ive not always worn ear plugs or had a first rate helmet.
The Shoei cost me a weeks wages, which was a lot, but its an investment in your body, which is all we have and all the fun and joy of this amazing life experience branches out from a healthy body.

Wow, I bet you've got some interesting stories! I agree, the helmet is worth the investment. Thanks for watching :)

@@moto_des I like watching your video's because I like to see you learning, growing , because you have just the right amount of humility to learn from others. What I learnt is everybody or anybody really, has got something to teach us.
My wife got her first bike about 20 years ago. This was good as its was easier to ride without a pillion, gave me an excuse to buy lots of bikes, and also meant she could experience riding fully.
She just got back into it, approached it all vey cautiously, with masses of training videos, but her old kneck injury flared up.
I have a Roadliner for 2up riding, but even pillion may be too much now.
This world is paradise but has time limits which is a bummer to say the least.

I have tried many helmets and even a few different Shoei's and the RF series is my go-to helmet.

That's a great looking helmet. Does it come standard with all those that you mentioned (such as chin curtain, etc)? My Bell Vortex doesn't have those things.

I'm told you do want the helmet to be tight enough to give you chipmunk cheeks. This should lessen after time. Your head and face should move with the helmet but not be so tight you feel pressure points.
I just installed a Cardo on my Shoei RFSR. Sounds pretty great too!
    Gratz on the new helmet!
I don't know if you've tried them but Flying Eyes Sunglasses are great for helmets. No pressure on the sides at all. Decided to get a pair instead of a tinted visor.
