Compound clips are an essential within Davinci Resolve! They not only allow you to keep your timeline tidy (which means faster, more efficient editing) but they also allow you to create some really cool effects!

NOTE: 11:20 Stacked Transitions - You HAVE to use Fusion Transitions (scroll down in the Transitions list within Effects Library!). The Regular Transitions cause a weird bug in Resolve where it makes the preview window black. I wasn't aware of this at the time as always used Fusion Transitions (or my own free to download ones!). Thanks for those that mentioned it in the comments đđ
It's time we get to see compound clips in Power Bins... đ„ș By the way Heartiest Congratulation on 100k âșđđ»
The examples were FAST! I wanted to give you ideas and whiz through the steps. If it was TOO fast, let me know down below đđ
I had to re watch a couple, but that's fine with me. Great tutorial. Thanks!
Ragazzo! If I had found this video earlier it could have save me the last 5 days of animations and titling
The last one with the combined transitions was a great idea. đđđœ But one downside on compound clips I realized was the increased workload on the hardware. As I made a compound clip with 10 layers of only PNGs my system died. Having the same clips without compounding them, it works.
use render cache, mralextech has a video on that
Ik đą to preview my footage with smooth playback I had to disable the track that has all my compound clips.
game changer!
12:26 - 100% agree this would be awesome to have in the power bins. Loads of great tips there, thank you Alex !
Wow. Just starting with DVR. So many fantastic things it can do so easily. Your vids are so useful. Lots of rewinding and pausing, but so worth the effort. Thanks MrAlexTech
MrAlexTech you read my mind. I was just searching yesterday for information on compound clips, and your tutorial has expanded that knowledge and given me new creativity tips. Thanks so much!
Bloody marvellous!
I love the clarity and pace with which you impart your knowledge - thank you
Whoa. You just made my left so much easier! All this time when I wanted to edit something in my compound clip, I was doing the decompose in place! Always an easier way. Thank you for continuing to come in clutch!
Bloody marvellous!!! Definetly use it in my projects going forward. Such a great way of keeping projects clean and less chance of messing things up. THANKS ALEX!
This is fantastic... It's not only going to clean up the timeline, it's also going to save some much time editing multiple elements at once đđ»đđ»
Brilliant as always! Thank you for helping me skilling up and congratulations on a well-deserved 100k!! đ
ALWAYS LOVED TO WATCH UR CONTENT đ
VERY COOL !! I will be using this today!
Thanks a lot for the help!
WOW, that's a lot of great ideas. So much info, so fast. Great work!
Very very big thank you, Alex.
So many amazing things covered in one videoâŠyou are brilliant and my favourite when it comes to Da Vinci resolve đ€©
Fantastic and clear video, thank you so much for sharing!
this was very helpful! thanks man
If you do a timeline with just the footage you want, you could quick export it to .264 and then add that to your power bins.
Itâs fantastic! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
Excellent! Thank you for the tips and ideas!

Excellent tutorial!
Thanks, Alex, you're the best. I just need a compound clip for the first time (a credits page with multiple company logos) and here you are ...
Nice vid mate. Thank you đ
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you Alex. đđđ»
I got suffering with After Effect but thank god, i can leave in peace now!!! Thanks for sharing bro!
Thank you
I've been using them, but I didn't know you could open them up and make changes. I've been duplicating my tracks first I need to revert, so this is very helpful and more efficient.
FantĂĄstica explicaciĂłn, como siempre. Gracias

AWESOME!!! Thank you.
Brilliant mr Alex
great video !!!
Wow I have used compound clips before but didnât know about most of the things in this vid. Thank you!!!
This was an awesome tutorial.
Great tutorials. Iâm ready to try this technique
This channel should have at least 1M subs.
This is exactly what I just needed, thanks MrAlextech, đ
Great "handles" tio. Thanks
Awesome Compound Tips !!!!
Thanks Robert!
Another awesome tutorial Alex! Every video I make is a little better than the last... why? Because I watch your videos and pick up new tips and ideas before I start editing each new project! Keep up the great work mate. Cheers, Nick
Another great one! You answered my question at the end of how good it would be use in a power bin as an intro clip for example. Keep them coming.....
Bloody Marvelous indeed đđ
đ
Well, I'm chuffed that you got to 100K - you worked hard for that, but it looks like it was fun. Compound clips could be saved by making the project as a template. Then you start every project by opening "template" and rename it straight away.
this is exactly what I needed, its like smart objects in photoshop
Speed fx....great tip!
Thank you!!! The borders or Polaroid effect will improve the look when I share photos in my photography vlog. Iâve been struggling to find a fast and easy way to add borders, and this is drop-dead easy! đđđ
Wow - this was unbelievably helpful Alex...thanks so much man đđ».
I had no idea you could go back into a compound clip to re-edit it đ€Ż
So many cool uses here man - thanks so much đđ»
How do you do it? Can you tell, please? When I right-click a compound I don't have "Open in Timeline"
Massive Luv .... Glad I took the time to get caught up on videos. This is going to make life soooooo much easier
Fab Mr Alex Tech. Bringing us all up to pro level (ish) at no cost. Love it. My customers think Iâm a genius.
Hi Alex, they may not add the option to save compound clips to power bins, since if you open one in a new timeline, you are able to save it as a standalone project and use it that way. Love your videos - you make me look amateur. Keep it up please
U just jammed so much worthwhile info into that tutorial - brilliant Alex. Thx a million.
I started using compound clips today and it's literally the best thing I have done till now in my edits,
My timeline is neat,
I was working on something where I had to put 8 tracks of titles like a stack, I did that converted into compound clip and boom!
I started using compound clips a while ago, but only realised yesterday while playing around in an edit the beauty of them. Had NO clue about stacking the transitions though!!! It's a good reminder to keep your learning hat on, even when you think you know something đ
On of the most useful time saving workflow videos ever. Love your content. I share it all the time.
If you could create multiple types of compounds to speed you and your editor up, how could you prevent the edit files from having to be relinked each time. Tried a Dropbox workflow to share assets. Make clump outs clip shortcuts for template project. But files break Due to different download paths. How would you work to share edit assets to speed you and your editor. Using same assets. A library of compound shortcuts that can be shared and added to without breaking or making clips go offline. I know nobody pulled my string but I always will shoot my shot lol. Keep it coming bro !
Do you have audio issues with nested / compound clips? For me audio sometimes cracks, sometimes plays weird... on Beta 18...
I've had similar issues with clips that are the wrong type, e.g. a mono clip with a 7.1 track. So, if you haven't already, check that the audio is the same on the original file, in the compound clip, and on the track it's on on the timeline you're using.
I have read that nested timelines can be a bit flaky in certain situations. It looks like compound clips are the best way of handling larger projects.
Thanks for the very informative video. I think compound clips will make my workflow much easier!
luv it
Wow. Another brilliant set of tips and tricks. That one at the end using multiple Compound clips to create a multi-effect transition was the BOMB! I have got to use that! Thanks so much.
P.S. And YES, please let us add these to our Power Bins.
Congrats on 100k Subs !
Thanks Keith :)
HA HA HA, really glad I watched it through to the end⊠and didnât embarrass myself by bringing up the power bin limitation - which is a major gripe of mine⊠this would be immensely useful. Once more, great video Alex, mahalo.
Congrats on 100K!
Heyyyy thanks!! Woo âșïžâșïž
@@MrAlexTech have you thought about adding PointerFocus to your mouse pointer? May make it easier to follow across the screen
WOOOO 100k baby lets gooo
I think that YOU are âbloody marvelousâ !!
I'm making my new GTA garage tour video where each garage has 21 titles. Last year, it was a right 'mare, keeping everything together. I had no idea I could just compound each garage when done then easily re-arrange stuff! You are a star and gratz on the 100K subs!
Hey Alex great video would love to see a video on expressions within the text box how to use them like..."following" "animate" etc
Hi Alex, nice vid!
Thanks Trollfix đđ
Brandon from Creator People sent me here to learn more about DaVinci. Wow! So many helpful videos. Thank you so much!
this was so useful. I cant believe this was not taught to me in the course I purchased from another youtuber.
