  • Welcome to my new Channel; Novice Modelling and the Midlife Crisis. This is a quick film of a recent large purchase I made from a company called "Fields of Glory". I am new to both this modelling and Youtubing malarkey. My intention is to learn the various techniques required to successfully produce half decent CZcams videos and of course learn the variety of skills required to produce half decent looking models. Follow me on my novice modelling journey whilst I try desperately to overcome my midlife crisis. Questions and suggestions always welcome. Like and subscribe, follow me on my ride!
Everything featured in this video has been paid for out of my own pocket. I am not endorsed by any company mentioned in this video.

Nice haul. I'm one month into my return to scale modelling after a 40+ years hiatus. Making lots of mistakes and having loads of fun. Started off with some sets from Wingsy Kits. Best of luck.

Thanks so far I've really enjoyed spending a load of cash on a collection that was intended to motivate me, currently It's doing the opposite and is starting to intimidate me PMSL. I'm going to start my builds with my stash of 33 1/72 Spitfires, I need to learn a few techniques, especially with painting before i start tackling the 1/35's.

Hi Andy. Well what can I say. Your hitting this hobby hard. Thats a huge haul and a large sum of money. You must have a big house or a lot of ambition.Anyway, the cheap Panther ausf D is the old kit from the early seventies. If you look in the lower hull tub you will holes for a motor. These kits were originally motorised. Its a bit of a dinosaur but if you use it as a testbed for practicing some techniques then it is ideal. You will need something to practice your zimmerit on. I did that on this very kit. Painting. A tip That I can give you is to use rattle cans for your base colour painting. Halfords do some really good primer colours in large cans. They cost less than a tenner and are a lot cheaper than the Tamiya paints. You might want to take a break from spending and start some building. The Panzer 2 is a good little kit with plenty of build location options. The Tamiya aircraft kits are of very good quality and you can't go wrong with them, even though they are expensive. Hey listen buddy, enjoy the hobby. There's so much to it,but do remember the amout of time it takes to make these kits. Also as you get better you will notice they will take longer to build, you become more involved in them. Good luck pal, I will keep watching your progress.

Hello again Brian, thanks for watching, This channel has "midlife crisis" in the title for a reason LOL. This haul is slightly embarrassingly only a part of my stash, which i call my "inspiration for improvement collection" LOL the rationale behind this is that i will always have an interesting option to build whatever the weather, if it takes 20 years to get through then so be it the investment in models has already been made, if at some point i decide i have had enough, i can Ebay the collection and i have an almost instant supply of funds for a new hobby. Also how many "whats in the box" videos can i produce from this lot? The Pz 5's and 4's (3 of each) i thought would make an interesting comparison series of the "whys" are these models so vastly different in price £12 to £40 roughly. I have a range of rattle cans and airbrush primer colours that i intend to use on the 12 speed build spitfires (the dirty dozen) that i have completed and will be painting over the next week or so. There is a method to my madness regarding my interpretation of novice modelling and Youtubing, which is still very much a work in progress jumble of ideas, that i hope you and others will continue to find interesting if perhaps rather bizarre over the coming months. Oh PMSL the spending has pretty much ceased for now, this weeks net spend is £10 on a viewer recommendation for a Dewoitine D520.
      Thanks for your support
      be seeing you
      Andy

Oh couple of pound saving tips - look out for isopropyl alcohol (99% proof) which will make a great substitute for the tamiya acrylic thinner. Hardware stores or office supplies should have it in stock
And looking at your stash, you'll need lots of glue. Consider using tamiya airbrush cleaner as opposed to their thin cement. Its near enough the same product that costs less and you get more of it!

Champion Scale Modelling had a great beginners' series in which he built e.g. the old Tamiya Panzer II you bought as well.

Ive watched a few of his voids and yes the Panzer II was one, strangely I modelled for about a month 20 years ago when i was made redundant, buiolt the Pz II, still have it, thought it will make for an interesting comparison when i make it again, probs in a month or so.

6:36 The Demag D7, gun and figures are actually former 1970s ESCI kits, which Italeri took over. The half-track is a pain to build.
