You guys are actually catching on pretty fast about IU's music. It's usually more than just about entertainment and having a good time. There is typically a central theme interwoven into the work in form of lyrics, images, and/or storylines. As professionals. you can easily appreciate the artwork, vocal, concept and production of the MV. IU said her whole Love, Poem album is about different kind of love. This Above The Time is about love from different time dimension. Someone already mentioned that this is a sequel to an IU MV "You & I" 8 years ago, in which IU, as the protagonist, was sent to a different time via a time machine. There are lots of references in this MV that become apparent had you seen "You & I" before, such as the goose/duck :-)
As so many have said, if you watch 2011's "You & I", it's the first part of this story, with the same actor, same director, the lot.
Production value on IU's music videos already great, lots of hidden meanings and throwback messags to older videos.

There’s a lot of interpretation about the ‘Above the time’ MV. If you watch IU’s “You and I” MV 8 years ago (2011), above the time is the continuation of You and I. IU was sent to a different dimension since she went to the time machine she built and Lee Hyun Woo (the guy in both MVs) but still connected in some way. The time machine had a destination date of 12/31/2019 (You and I mv). The same can be seen on the beginning of above the time, as the calendar on the wall was also marked 12/31/2019. When LHY moved the hands of the clock to 00:20am as shown in the drawing on his wrist, we saw him and IU reuniting in a somewhat garden room-ish full if flowers (probably LHY’s imagination or dream). After that, the clock drawing on his wrist disappears and we see a new drawing on his palms appeared (which we saw IU drawing while they were in the dream). LHY, however painful, delivered the ladder to IU in the paper ship going nowhere signifying that they may found a way to get back together.. or simply decided to move on and let go of each other.
By itself the song is about relationship that may only happen above the time, with references to IU previous and current song. Also a wink to a possible real life situation whereby two individuals can't be together due to circumstances and only have limited interaction (water & feather). There's a video called Above the Time and You and I explained by a Korean, which is the best analysis of the songs and MVs that I have come across. Part of me just wants to say, isn't her singing glorious and not worry about meaning, but even in translation, I can tell what a great lyricist she is, so I want to understand. Great reaction by the way.

Her voice, it's really good that you already close your eyes and just listen coz you feel lonely at first and then at the end while you open your eyes it's like your heart open also💜💙.. Hi guys, I'm from Canada and a subscriber of your channel. Been following you guys on YT for a while and have to say " You guys are awesome ! great reactions and funny as hell. Well, I'm sure others have already informed you on the story of this video and the mv of hers a few years ago. IU is an awesome songwriter, singer(artist) , different in her style from other artists which makes her unique in my eye. Maybe not really your style but I hope she can draw you in to something different. Glad you reacted to her.
I don't like ballads, but I love this song. The performance is far above what I've heard IU do before. The song causes me to tear up every single time.

this was from a trilogy lol she had another song many years ago, like 8 years before this song. Its with the same guy, the song was called you and i. In that MV there was a real goose that was her pet. The guy was asleep and doesnt wake up so she tries to find him by traveling through time or something like that
