  • Vintage Jeep off-roading at Hurricane Creek Trail North Carolina! In this video I take the old cj5 along with a Scout 800, International Harvester Travelall and a Kaiser M151 Mutt on an off-roading adventure! I was surprised how well all the vehicles performed.
The upgrades on the CJ5 all met and exceeded my expectations and now I have a better plan for future upgrades.
I believe this trail is rated at a 4-5 difficulty which gave us plenty of opportunity to break in these old rigs and sharpen our driving abilities!
If you liked what you saw here go check out ‪@vintageoverlanding‬ for more details and demonstrations of this old iron and these challenging trail!

We do have some greats shots of the Stinky Chicken! and a couple of the little brown scout catching air. Jacob was for sure better at it than I was. That that little beast just dug right along. Thanks for joining us and thanks for the shout out.

The Chicken did great 👍 I really like the half cab, My 63 is waiting for some shop time and I think I'm going to do a T18 like you did on your other CJ , I just love how those F-heads sound as they chug along

I like the stinky chicken top to, i have one like it, but it's made of some heavy gauge metal. I love the F134 hurricane engine, just bought a 1954 Willys Jeep M138A with all the 24 volt stuff still intact. I just got it yesterday, and hope to get it running soon. I want to do a few upgrades to the brakes and the drive line. These older jeeps were made so much heavier than the new thin metal stuff, you gotta love them. I loved the sound of the stinky chicken, reminds me of driving in my grandpa's old jeep he had after he got out of the army in wwll. I wish he would have kept that old jeep, but before he died he tried not to leave to much for my granny to do. G-d bless.

Thanks for another view. No vehicles that are glorified dragster on 40" tire more in the drive train than a new car, and lest we forget lots and lots of drama. Just a group that brought good solid vehicles, and helped each make it thru a great day of trail riding. With the prevailing thought ''I gotta drive this home''.

I love the old vintage jeeps. I just got a sweet deal on a 1954 Wliilys Jeep M38A1, it was two hour's from where i live, and it was bought from the government along time ago, and has never been road titled, an older fella drove it during the summer in northern Michigan. Still has the original hurricane F134 engine with the 24volt unaltered wiring, and all the insulated components so it go through water. I only need to patch a couple real small holes, and then strip the horrible dark wine color the guy painted it back to the correct military green under the hood and interior of the thing. I have been looking for one of these for awhile, and had traded some stuff for a 53 cj5 that needed a lot of love, but now thing's just got a lot better, but i still may restore the old cj5, can't ever have to many Jeeps lol. G-d bless.

It's great to finally see video of You and a rig on the trail! Seems like that's what has finally brought the whole channel together. Now, to get some of them other rigs outta the grocery store parking lots and into some fishing holes. There ARE fishing holes there, ain't there? P.S. I sure do miss my 72 Bronco, and my 49 2A, and my 82 K5, and my 67 F100 4x4, and my 86 GMC 2500 4x4. Oh, they're all here but the Bronco. Might have to make do with a SAS, small block Bronco II.....

Glad you all finished the trail and everyone made it through safe. We had all the Land Rovers take the outside line since we all had independent suspension (with the exception of the Disco2 and classic Defender but both had bigger tires) and could clear the big rock down the center line. I was the guy in the black puffy jacket and blue Land Rover hat.

Out there making it look easy!
There are many opinions on lockers front vs rear….mine is front. It allows you to climb over things that you would not be able to with a rear locker. In my 52 M38 I have a lunch box locker in the front and a limited slip in the rear. Axles are from a 75 cj5. It takes a lot to stop it!
    Great video!

    • @SevenBarSalvage

I completely understand. That is how I have built my Jeep also, on a budget.
Another great upgrade I did was to twin stick the Dana 20 transfer case (I blew up the original 18). Modifying the shifter shafts allows the use of 2wd hi and low…front or rear. Very nice to have.
