      @@chukwudiilozue9171 Well if u listen to her singing Polonaise, she used to sing an F above high C every night. From the low notes, you can hear her do a C below low C. So thats 3 easy Octaves right there. I am sure in practice she would stretch her range more few notes above that and some below. Her teacher had stated she has 4 octaves of solid singing range...not just screaming them out for vanity.

    • @Shamsithaca
      @Shamsithaca Před 6 lety +4

      yes, but it was the show that caused her vocal problems in the first place. All the glottal growling in the bass clef was the beginning of the end of her crystalline voice.

    • @dontip222
      @dontip222 Před 5 lety +10

      I had a talk with an otolaryngologist from the Chicago Institute of Voice this past summer. He put specific emphasis on the fact that Julie had a vocal cyst. He said that those are not caused by vocal misuse or anything the singer does.It is a gland that gets clogged just like a blackhead but on the larynx. No one can predict when a cyst will form or when it will cause problems. She could have had it for years until it was so clogged that surgery was performed. He also said that he knew about her case and that vocal rest wouldn't have helped. She needed the surgery which was, for her case, a fairly complicated operation. But the surgeon did make mistakes and it was totally his fault. Most people have the surgery with just a recovery period.

    • @Shamsithaca
      @Shamsithaca Před 5 lety

      @@dontip222 Ok, then the information has been eschewed or remains unclear what she really had. I was under the impression, that cysts can form from vocal misuse as she may have been the victim of since My Fair Lady (She has mentioned this in interviews), and exacerbated by Victor Victoria. I still believe she was pushing her chords beyond what they were wired to do. She was a coloratura and not a mezzo nor a contralto, which was what the part entailed the singer to be. If you watch her 1993 concerts, you can see her shouting and pushing through notes, yet when she does a tiny bit of coloratura, it is that pristine clear pretty voice we hear from her earlier years...Again I suppose Julie knows this better than anyone.

    • @daniellemarie334
      @daniellemarie334 Před 7 lety +7

      The first sentence is an obvious use of hyperbole, and I think you know it. And I am sure that there are many other beautiful love stories, and I'm not trying to compare them. I just feel that their relationship is so unique because of how it came about and how it grew into a 41-year love story. Their laughter, their love, the respect they give each other (all things I mentioned in my original comment) are unique to their relationship. That doesn't mean that no other couple in the public eye respected or loved each other this much, it just means that they have a special connection, something that I've never seen before in a Hollywood marriage. That is what made them so rare. And it's so sad that Blake isn't around anymore, but you can still see and feel their love whenever Julie talks about him. That is what I meant. I wasn't knocking anyone else's stories, I just see something special with these two.

      Julie Andrews is a beautiful soul, and she exudes beauty. The interviewer Sir Michael Parkinson is a well respected interviewer and means no harm. The difference is time. Feb 2021. Hello...😊....just a quick point to "Roman Clay", who would have liked to have seen Marlon Brando in " A Street car Named Desire" : he was at his brooding best in the film, but having been a "Method " actor, I think he said to play it on stage was very stressful, so he had to give it up.
    Just thought you'd like to know that ! Best wishes from England.

      Opinions obviously vary, Parky seemed okay to me (and far better than the snarky Sue Lawley later on). At this point Julie was still fresh to the interview business. Later in her career she often went into what I call the 'Ustinov anecdote' mode, using the same phrases and intonations as she told, for example, the helicopter story yet again! Her best interviews in recent years were on the late night Craig Ferguson show which became a joyful witty exchange with someone else with a honed (British) sense of humo(u)r instead of the usual gush-fest.

      @@chrisnorton4382 I agree, i assume it’s hard for her because everyone asks about story’s so she has to tell them, I love how there are a few interviews where she is very witty and shows her funny side of you haven’t watched the Julie andrews interview on the jay leno show it’s very funny, it’s on CZcams just search “julie andrews on jay leno”

    "Would you like to be accepted as a straight actress, or is that not where your talent lies?" What a bloody rude question! Julie Andrews IS a perfectly good (and talented) straight actress. Typically, she refused to be riled, though she might have been tempted to ask Sue Lawley, "Would you like to be accepted as an interviewer rather than a mere newsreader, or is that not where your talent lies?" . . .

    Both The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins are both classical movies that will never be improved on mainly because of Julie Andrews performances, and of course Christopher Plummer and Dick van Dyck. I've always believed musicals are her forte.
