  • This is part two of the journey of bringing this 32 year old vehicle back to life, after standing unused for the last 7 years. Tackling the timing belt change, including fabricating my own tensioner tool.

Great video explaining the process. I feel a bit more comfortable tackling the timing belts on my 1992 Tolbot Express now, thanks. Alan from Northern Ireland

With hindsight it was actually a straight forward process. I’m just always apprehensive tackling jobs like this due to the possibility of royally ruining a perfectly good engine! Good luck, go slow and it’ll be fine :)

Can't really think why I watched this excellent video as I shall never have to do this job but it was such fun watching it! Well done!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video. Very helpful to me changing the timing belts on my 32 year old Talbot Express motor home. Really appreciate your attention to detail and actually quite entertaining too!!

Thank you so much! I did the same job this weekend on my peugeot j5 and your video was a great help and also inspiration for me!
You name it.. to put the upper belt in place is really "entertaining";-)... in the beginning I thought there is almost half an inch of length missing. Finally I got it managed by warming the belt and pushing it on the pulley from the side, using a stick to get pressure on it. Lost some blood too, ;-), but the engine is running! Thanks again, I didn´t find a single other video on the web showing this job on that car.

Thanks for taking the time to document this!
I'm attempting to do the same on mine and struggling with getting the new crank/cam belt. Did you end up manage to get it on with the tension in place, or does the tensioner go in afterwards?

Big belt (crank cam) I managed to get on with the tensioner in place, obviously slackened all the way off. It was fiddly but not awful. The harder one (for me anyway) was the cam - injection pump belt. That one I had to fit with the tensioner only half fitted - ie with the little locking pin not located. Once I’d got the belt past the edge of the tensioner I was able to swing the tensioner around and fit it correctly.
Neither were the worst I’ve ever done, but they were tight and not the easiest I’ve done either!

Great video. Exactly the same engine as mine so I'm going to have a go. One thing. The tensioner tool wrench. Which one fits? There's loads out there.

    hello,
we have the same engine and i wanted to ask if you have a link to the forum or the place where we can find some more information?

The forum that were helpful are here: talbotoc.com
They are a Talbot motor home group, but have a lot of info on the C25 engine.
Otherwise, there is a tiny bit of info on CZcams, but to be honest not much out there on line.

I’ve used 2 drill bits and a screwdriver beetween them on them adjusters instead of making a tool in the past it’s crude but it’s quick and it works
