      They did a great job of blowing your mind with the protheans, the reveal with the collectors and then this....the truth about the reapers and their creators. The scale of the battle you're waging isn't just this cycle and this galaxy....but countless cycles and galaxies full of life that came before, all watching you struggle from the POV of the reapers themselves. And you're one man/woman against all that. And still somehow win, despite all odds. The very nature of a video game makes that scale hard to show and comprehend as the player, but the Mass Effect trilogy does a better job than pretty much anybody else at it.

    All of these factors work together beautifully. First off, the planet that we find Leviathan on is named after the Greek goddess of the arcane mysteries, who's true name was only known to those initiated into her cult. The music gives the sense that we're approaching something mysterious and crazy ancient, and also rather scary. We're searching for this thing at the bottom of an incredibly deep ocean, something which in and of itself has always inspired feelings of wonder, awe, and fear. And the Leviathan itself is a creature unfathomable age, displaying powers the likes of which we can barely grasp if at all. All of these combine beautifully to create an incredible, rather Lovecraftian moment of gameplay.

    There was only one thing, that broke for me impression on the leviathan:when it speaks to Shepard, it uses the image of scientists from this dlc instead of using images of Shepards friends and enemies. Just imagine, how great it would be to see Saren, when Leviathan talks about the betrayal of AI or Javik when it talks about harvest of every species. THAT IMHO WOULD BE THE MOST BREATHE-TAKEN MOMENT OF THE GAME, even better than whispering of your friends in nightmares.

There's no reason animals on other worlds can't evolve into different forms to what we've found on earth/haven't discovered yet, that defy what we already know or expect to find elsewhere in the universe. The possibilities are quite limitless.

    • @etofok
      @etofok Před 4 měsíci

      @@toko96 the reason to evolve is always sexual pressure. but the reason to evolve intelligence is to be better prepared for the future events as mediated by sexual selection. That's partially why we evolved prefrontal cortex and that's why colder regions generally have smarter people because people needed to prepare for the winter so their offspring don't die from the lack of pre-stored food or pre-built proper shelter.
      Discovery of the future is one of the most important events in the human history as it allowed us to see threats on the abstract level i.e. winter is coming
      if you are a cephalopod there's no reason to evolve intelligence because food and 'sex' is always available to you and therefore the difference between a 'comfy now' and a 'dangerous season then' does not exist.
