It's the oldest film festival in the world. The Mostra di Venezia is Italy’s opportunity to roll out the red carpet, as Hollywood decamps to the Grand Canal. The festival brings together A-list celebrities, eagerly awaited features and a selection of shorts and documentaries. FRANCE 24’s Louise Dupont sits down with Mel Gibson and Andrew Garfield, as they present the Second World War drama "Hacksaw Ridge" and we get a preview of the buff bodies of zombie caper "The Bad Batch".

What do you mean Mel Gibson has TRIED directing in recent years. He is an established director as well as an actor.

Right? Who was foolish enough to write it as that? he started directing nearly 25 years ago and has an Academy Award for Best Director.

Its sad they put down a talented man for mistakes he has made. Its not only a shame professionally, but humanly to shame someone after they have already apologized for years and have admitted to dealing with alcoholism. I cant imagine trying to fix myself while the whole world is rooting for my downfall.

Jim Caviezel said that when he first met Mel Gibson back during the Passion, Gibson was really shy, always looking down, and touching his face. I think it's just something he does when he's in the 'hot seat' talking one on one. He's very humble when he talks. He doesn't brag about his success or films.

How the hell does this woman @ 5:48 talk about Mel Gibson "trying his hand" at directing, without mentioning "the passion of Christ"? One of the highest grossing films of all time? Passion of Christ along with Braveheart are two of the most successful films ever, and she describes it as "trying his hand" ... unbelievable bias.

Regardless of what anyone says, the man has talent. The suicide attempt scene in the first lethal weapon, brilliant. Apparently it moved the film crew to tears and is still beleivable and intense to watch. His directing and story telling prowess in Braveheart was outstanding and worthy of the oscar it won. And his entire body of work is marked with moments of pure genius. I for one dont care about his personal failings. He is after all, just a man. But as an artist, both actor and director, I will always consider him an inspiration and myself, a fan.

This movie Hacksaw Ridge brings me back to my days hearing my Grandfathers stories, my grandfather flew with Eisenhower in Italy and N Africa, protecting his boss, the General. Crew as Ike's Bike. They had a few close calls. My Grand father was my Hero. I volunteer at a museum in his honor is Savannah, Eighth AF and I wear his overall uniform he used out at Hunter Field in Savannah, when he worked on the Engines after the war, and dress up as Rosie the Riveter. Also wear a dress that like the Andrew Sisters. It is so fun.

Robert Downey Jr. is a rare breed of Integrity, Humility and Loyalty....This guy showed more balls than ANYONE EVER in Hollywood by publicly backing and informing Hollywood that it was time to release Mel Gibson from his "Blacklist" status
Nobody EVER publicly shows this kind of loyalty ESPECIALLY when they become A List Celebrities.
99.9955% ALWAYS forget the people who helped them to the top and 99.9999999999% will not PUBLICLY come to someone's aid for the risk of DAMAGING their OWN BRAND. Robert Downey Jr. is DESERVING of ALL his SUCCESS. BRAVO!!!
BTW it is a disingenuous tactic to label people who speak to factual atrocities committed by those of Jewish decent as being Anti-Semitic. Two facts are True: Number 1; Jewist Zionists committ and continue to demonstrate a hunger to committ genocide and many other atrocities that go against humanity and the United Nations Security Council & Number 2; All Jewish People should not be condemned for the Actions of their sinful, hateful brothers
