It's the oldest film festival in the world. The Mostra di Venezia is Italy’s opportunity to roll out the red carpet, as Hollywood decamps to the Grand Canal. The festival brings together A-list celebrities, eagerly awaited features and a selection of shorts and documentaries. FRANCE 24’s Louise Dupont sits down with Mel Gibson and Andrew Garfield, as they present the Second World War drama "Hacksaw Ridge" and we get a preview of the buff bodies of zombie caper "The Bad Batch".

What do you mean Mel Gibson has TRIED directing in recent years. He is an established director as well as an actor.
Right? Who was foolish enough to write it as that? he started directing nearly 25 years ago and has an Academy Award for Best Director.
Its sad they put down a talented man for mistakes he has made. Its not only a shame professionally, but humanly to shame someone after they have already apologized for years and have admitted to dealing with alcoholism. I cant imagine trying to fix myself while the whole world is rooting for my downfall.
+rico.
Very well put! I think the guy has been punished and suffered long enough. It's long past time to live and let live. I've missed his brilliance and am glad he's back.
+Misfutoru.
I agree with you 100%.
Mel Gibson , we love you man. WELCOME BACK
Jim Caviezel said that when he first met Mel Gibson back during the Passion, Gibson was really shy, always looking down, and touching his face. I think it's just something he does when he's in the 'hot seat' talking one on one. He's very humble when he talks. He doesn't brag about his success or films.
How the hell does this woman @ 5:48 talk about Mel Gibson "trying his hand" at directing, without mentioning "the passion of Christ"? One of the highest grossing films of all time? Passion of Christ along with Braveheart are two of the most successful films ever, and she describes it as "trying his hand" ... unbelievable bias.
They're not even in the top 50 highest grossing movies..but yeah
Not true, POTC isn’t even in the top 10 highest grossing films; comic book films hold the majority of those spots.
4th Highest grossing non-English film of all time. "Passion of the Christ".
If you came here to watch about Mel Gibson because that's what the title says it's about, you're going to want to skip ahead to 5:30.
You're doing God's work.
Thank you
much obliged ... I loath most Hollywood people
Thank you!
Thank you!
mel is a fantastic director
and a great actor
and a great Christian man
Even better actor
What if he directed a space opera?
mel gibson is my all time fav! no shame
Best actor and director! No one comes close to his acting greatness!
Rented Temple that statement is so true it's crazy. I will say though, awful casting of the main character in this movie. Worst actor ever. Needs a smack.
I would really like to know: is Mel Gibson a practicing Catholic? Or does he just enjoy directing movies with Catholic subjects? I know his Father was a devote Catholic wondering if it rubbed off on little Mel growing up????
Regina Gaughan I just read someplace that is in fact, a Catholic....
....in fact, HE is a Catholic.
Orson Welles was great at both
Mel is awesome, loved him as an actor, as a Director he’s off the charts excellent! The fact that he is strong in his faith is also amazing.
I also Think he’s absolutely right regarding the soldiers that gave their lives, because they gave it everything they got !
Thanks from 🇨🇦
Regardless of what anyone says, the man has talent. The suicide attempt scene in the first lethal weapon, brilliant. Apparently it moved the film crew to tears and is still beleivable and intense to watch. His directing and story telling prowess in Braveheart was outstanding and worthy of the oscar it won. And his entire body of work is marked with moments of pure genius. I for one dont care about his personal failings. He is after all, just a man. But as an artist, both actor and director, I will always consider him an inspiration and myself, a fan.
"I hate war but I love the warrior". You are the best
I don't care what you think about him, he's a great director!
I just saw "Hacksaw Bridge" and I am still in awe. It's the same feeling every time. The humanity in Gibson's films is so inspiring, brings the absolute best.
Gibson is one of the few directors out there who has truly mastered the art of film making.
Mel...You are definitely a fantastic actor and an ingenious director, you survived; and Hollywood will now have no choice but to welcome you back with open arms, congratulations, the best is yet to come.
Clearly, the show of life ain't over yet for Mel. His best IS yet to come!
Maybe alcohol made him a little crazy...ruin his brain and emotions, perception..
Hacksaw Ridge looks like an important film. I think it show what a Christian should be like to a world that doesn't understand Christianity.
praise the Lord!
Hacksaw Ridge.. Movie of the Year
Michael Edwards decade
10:04 best face ever, haha
Love You Mel, keep working!!
My favorite guys Mel Gibson and Robert Redford as actors, as directors as a humans
dang Mel Gibson is intense
I saw that too. The way he answered. Gestures, etc. Like at 10:48 for example. At least I read he got a 10min standing ovation at the venice film festival for his film. Really glad for him and that he's back. Wondering what are those stories/movies that he was mentioning at the end; that want;s to tell before he "hits the box" :)
yeah i noticed this..is he expecting to be bumped off...his expression would suggest an uncomfortable feeling about something...the illuminati maybe?watch this space
You are ok by me, Mel! I love your movies and look forward to seeing this at a local theater, and seeing all your future work. You are a breath of fresh air in the movie business. Keep 'em coming!
Skip to 5:30 for the Mel Gibson bit...
thanks.
Mel's OK with me. Always has been.
I love Mel, he's so raw and straight up. The Passion of the Christ and Braveheart, even Apocalypto, are masterpieces.
Any religion worth its salt come from love. Love must be at its epicentre. Well said Mel Gibson! I could not agree more.
The best part of the interview is when he says he would like to tell us a couple more stories before he "hits the box" XD
We Love you Mel, don't ever change !
I hate war but I love the warrior. Perfectly said.
That face at 10:04 :D i love this man! One of my favorite directors and actors
one of the best directors on the planet. Go Mel!
I love Mel Gibson. He is a great actor and director.
Mel Gibson.. The guys got hands in every pie, he keeps discreet. I reckon he’s pulling strings on people in Hollywood who thought they got away with screwing him over.. Good man.
"... Hit the box." lol
Going to see this :) And I am excited he may be doing Resurrection of Christ. Love the first one and the soundtrack is my favorite along with Brave Heart. This movie Hacksaw Ridge brings me back to my days hearing my Grandfathers stories, my grandfather flew with Eisenhower in Italy and N Africa, protecting his boss, the General. Crew as Ike's Bike. They had a few close calls. My Grand father was my Hero. I volunteer at a museum in his honor is Savannah, Eighth AF and I wear his overall uniform he used out at Hunter Field in Savannah, when he worked on the Engines after the war, and dress up as Rosie the Riveter. Also wear a dress that like the Andrew Sisters. It is so fun.
He's mad, like his character Mad Max, and alcoholic, but he's my favorite director, and also one of my favourite actors.
Robert Downey Jr. is a rare breed of Integrity, Humility and Loyalty....This guy showed more balls than ANYONE EVER in Hollywood by publicly backing and informing Hollywood that it was time to release Mel Gibson from his "Blacklist" status
Nobody EVER publicly shows this kind of loyalty ESPECIALLY when they become A List Celebrities.
99.9955% ALWAYS forget the people who helped them to the top and 99.9999999999% will not PUBLICLY come to someone's aid for the risk of DAMAGING their OWN BRAND. Robert Downey Jr. is DESERVING of ALL his SUCCESS. BRAVO!!!
BTW it is a disingenuous tactic to label people who speak to factual atrocities committed by those of Jewish decent as being Anti-Semitic. Two facts are True: Number 1; Jewist Zionists committ and continue to demonstrate a hunger to committ genocide and many other atrocities that go against humanity and the United Nations Security Council & Number 2; All Jewish People should not be condemned for the Actions of their sinful, hateful brothers
I saw your movie it was very moving nothing less than perfection.. it's all that can be expected from a Gibson production
7:31 This is why liberals hate Mel Gibson so much; he's more antiwar than they are!
I'm a liberal. And *No*... Liberals don't hate him.
*THE JEWS* hate him.
Don't try your fancy Jewish tactics of masking the villain.
Wtf is with the antisemitism man? Get a life bozo..
simply put ... intelligent people don't like jews ...and I love Mel Gibson even more for that
yeah ok...enjoy the nut house...
Mel Gibson is NOT anti-war, no matter what he tries to suggest. He believes in 'just war' theory. He believes in violent resistance to oppression. He is not a pacifist. Also, contrary to what he said in the video, not all war movies are anti-war. To say so is to butcher language.
I love this guy!
In the movie, Captain America : The First Avenger, he carries a gun. But in the comic books, he was more like the character in the trailer for Hacksaw Ridge - sure, super strength, and a shield made of vibranium, but I do not recall the Cap using a gun.
Welcome back Mel 🌺🇨🇦
Just give him the oscars, Hollywood. It's the best movie I've seen in years.
Wow Mel Gibson glad your back bro hope you keep making great movies and directing hope this movie here's the ringing of Oscar time
Mel is a legend we need his movies best of luck 🍀 to Mel Gibson
6:39 for section actually containing Mel Gibson, the first 6.5 odd minutes is fluff irrelevant to the video title.
Thank you
Mel is a great actor and director like Redford and Eastwood. This movie was fantastic...inspiring!
welcome back Mel Gibson! great talent screw the media crap
i believe mil gibson is a great actor and film maker who try to bring meaning movies that touch us as human not like many hallow films we see now from hollywood
I think Mel could have (some years ago) played an amazingly real Soupy Sales. They have a real energy connection.
a man who has wisdom n great privilege to turn a stone into a footstep in his life.... s´ probably gonna live over d 100s ...tell many...many ...many great stories....
True love only one way though.
I love Mel Gibson!!! Mad Max, The Patriot etc and more..
5:55 for Mel
Mel !!! Welcome !!!
I believe that the Father has used him in a powerful way to show what his son Jesus went through for us. Mel Gibson is an awesome director! i hope he knows the Lord
"Before I hit the box" :D
would enjoy a Mel Gibson and Oliver Stone interview
6:11 The Bible defines religion as helping the orphans and the widows.
It doesn't means vain repetitions or anything like that.
yasssss
Noooooooooooo
bravo Mel!!! love u
I want to see Mel Gibson's "The Resurrection"!!!! Hopefully it will be released on Resurrection Sunday 2021!!! (We could have used it THIS year, actually)
Mel's the greatest - We'll miss you him when he hits the box
the movie i love is
tim and madmax
belly and proud!
Like the actor that played in the Passion of the Christ, Andrew's career will probably be over after this. Christ is so hated in these last days ,but it's going to be worth it for him when he gets saved.
Mell is the BEST!
Happy for him. His energy passes onto the actors, gets the best out of film.
you can clearly see mel is great persona.
Mel doesn't need any trying. He knows exactly what he's doing .
Love Mel's cave man look. The best director around, better than all the paint by number Jews in Hollywood.
The best talent around. Electrifying on both sides of the camera.
Mel the best director. Man I hope he directs the Book of Maccabees. Epic
Camp LeJeune. Children and spouses of US Marines poisoned. 1 million people. we need a film like this to convince the government to live up to its obligation to provide compensation and health care. Death, Disability, Discrimination. That's what these patriotic families faced over the past 63 years.
Mickey Rourke was absolutely right about Hollywood "hexing" Mel Gibson - he should know, he made such a brilliant performance in Aronovski's The Wrestler, only to have it snatched from him by some MOR actor. Mel rose above all that, and has made some of the most thoughtful movies in the 21st Century so far. I really loved Jodie Foster's Beaver - uh, I mean THE Beaver. The movie she made. You know...
Dammit Mel, start a Kickstarter campaign, people will finance your ideas.
👋🏆💗🌺great director Mel Gibson
Okay Mel 😉 let's get a couple of those stories out before you hit the box 😌☝️🙏
"...before I hit the box."
The Real Reason Why People Defend Religion.....on CZcams
LOL Mels face in 10:02 an 10:03
say what you want about him, he is a serious filmmaker
"Another one or two of 'em before I hit the box." That's depressing
before I hit the box. lol
If he had to take a roll in a bad movie, like Machette kills, i'd rather see him go all the way, killer santa or something like that he would fitt the part. Love Edge of darkness, Apocalypto, Blood father and Get the gringo!!!
Mel is the man! Freeedoomm!
Mel is the only meaningful person in Hollywood today. The Syria movie was absolutely despicable...
Roberto Diego yeah, I don't know either but I'm interested.
Gosh, I remember when Mel Gibson was a pretty cool guy.
Remember the warning of Wernher von Braun about false "arrival" of ETs. Fools forget history and die.
Sam Mendes is British, not American. His accent should be a giveaway.
I think Mad Max: Fury Road would've been even better if Mel Gibson was in it.
All war movies are anti-war? No, absolutely not.
I'm not really convinced Gipson is a born again Christain. His life style does not have anything to do with Gods word.
I liked him better when he just played crazy people in the movies, now that I know he wasn’t acting I’m over it.
Mel @ 7:34
Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
MEL GIBSON RIGHT ABOUT VENICE ?
Harry Truman.. rumored to be a 33 degree freemason, whatever that means. However, should you condemn a person simply because of a gang affiliation? No, labels are merely labels. Who you are now, and who you might be tomorrow, is what matters. Are you a work in progress, or not? See, Ezekiel 18:20, kjv.
I LOVE THIS MAN!
Yeah - ok the Mel Gibson thing I can buy into. But I could look at Olivia Salazar-Winspear from now till the day I expire. Her ears alone make me wish I could die for her.
Mel always seems pissed off. This movie may suffer because of the casting . I mean, Vince Vaughan and Andrew Garfield?Really?
Actually he is right. In a interview with Mel, he says to the interviewer, that he has always been angry. If you read his biography, he says he was always pissed off. It probably goes back to his childhood years.
