  • Rhuddlan Castle, located in Denbighshire, North Wales, is a stunning example of medieval military architecture. Commissioned by Edward I of England in 1277 during his conquest of Wales, the castle played a crucial role in the control and administration of the region. Its strategic position along the River Clwyd allowed for easy access and supply by ship, demonstrating the foresight in its design.
The castle features a distinctive concentric design, with multiple layers of defensive walls and towers, making it a formidable stronghold in its time. Notable features include the twin-towered gatehouse, which served as both a defensive structure and a symbol of royal power, and the diamond-shaped inner ward, which provided a secure area for the garrison and the lord's quarters.
Over the centuries, Rhuddlan Castle has witnessed numerous historical events, including sieges and battles, and has evolved from a symbol of conquest to a cherished heritage site. Today, visitors can explore its well-preserved ruins, walk along its ancient walls, and imagine the lives of those who once lived and fought within its stone confines.
Rhuddlan Castle is not just a monument of the past, but a fascinating window into the history of Wales and its enduring legacy. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a picturesque place to visit, Rhuddlan Castle offers a captivating experience for all.

I spent many hours fishing off the bridge near there when we were on family hoidays. Great to be reminded of those times. As usual, lovely flight.
