I want to personally take the time say to you sir THANK you for your effort in theses videos. well appreciated
This is beautiful ETA. Sincere thank you to Kevin and you for all the hours and work put into this for our enjoyment. I hope one day you get to make an all out Arcade-only emulator attract mode.
"flash it the same way you do anything". Would appreciate not skipping that step. That's why I'm here.
Mr ETA Prime & Kevin for President for all this effort for us retrogamers!
Got it figured out, this works flawlessly now, incredible job !! Thank you !
This thing looks pretty sweet. Will have to get a download started and hope my 64mb card shows up tomorrow like it's supposed to.
I need help, please.. I've write the image successfully on a 64gb sd card. When i insert in the retropie, it doesnt work..what I did wrong..
Thank you so much for your great videos and all of the work that you do. You are indeed the man. :)
how much room is left in the 64gb after resizing the system?
you have helped me so many times...you are the man and thank you
Amazing job!! I wonder if I can use a 128GB card for this image and that way potentially have more room for additional emulators and roms? What kind of conflits would I have if I use the 128GB card?
No conflicts. Flash away. There is a 128 GB image some people have been talking about though. You might check that out.
Eta Prime, thank you so much!!
This video has been a huge help, thanks.
ETAPRIME - firstly I want to thank you for all of your tutorials, they have helped me out a lot.
Quick question: can I run this off of an external hard drive? I don't want to go buy a massive SD card in order to throw on a bunch of games
According to some posts on the retropie forums it is possible, just as you normally do with retropie-mount folder on the usb, retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/
Awesome. Thanks to you and Kevin.
question- so i've downloaded the image properly and am looking to match up my ROMs with the names of the games in the boxart, marquee, wheel etc. folders. How do people rename masses of games to match up correctly? Like, if I have a ROMset of every NES game but they all end with (U) instead of (USA) like most of the boxarts etc. in this image, is there a way to mass rename, or add the (SA) to the end of every file in the ROMset without doing it manually?
Did you ever get an answer to this post. I'm having the same problem. I've tried Fuzzy Rename and FatMatch neither of which worked.
Thank you for the upload and the instructions. Would you know if there is an easier way to rename all the roms instead of renaming one at a time?
thank you and tell Kevin thank you from me also. he's really nice to make this .
Nicely done, will give it a try ;)
Another great video as usual. I am trying to build my own Attract mode setup on top of my current RetroPie setup. Can you tell me, is there an easy way to rename a bunch of snaps, wheels, etc., in bulk to match the names of your ROMs? Also, how do you get the option in the EmulationStation RetroPie menu to reboot into Attract Mode? Thanks.
very useful information on resetting the controllers
Hey mate, love ur vids 👍🏻 I was just wondering if motion blue has these themes for each console?
@ETA PRIME
im still so new at all of this having stumbled on your videos which turned me on to raspberry pie world ...so thank you for that this is all quite exciting
(years of fighting compatibility with pc run emulators made it all unfeasible)
the real questions would be kodi....space upgrades...coin setup...and finally kids/kiosk/full mode add-on,
how is the functionality with kodi after using this image ?
can you use this image (64gb) and throw it onto a 128gb ?
(just expand file system? or will pie automatically expand it on first boot up?
is using a coin mechanism or button in place of possible in attract mode ? (and for all emulators not just Mame and neo)(you know that real arcade functionality )
also the kids?kiosk/full mode , whats accessibility like with that ?
i would really love to be able to do an arcade with the ability that once its set up and working that those setup functions can be disabled until needed service arises to prevent tinkering from unwanted or accidental influence....
sorry for such a lengthy question really want to decide what to use in a final full out 2 player bar top arcade setup with either coin mech or button in place of , so im really trying to figure out what is the best options
thank you guys all for your hard work with making this an amazing project within the whole grand world of raspberry pie
Sweet. thanks mang - Question.... if this comes with zero games... then a 64gig card aint gonna work... once the games are loaded, wont this push it out past 64gig? Also, how many systems are emulated on this image? Do I just need to obtain the roms of each emulator and dump them in the card? new to this... kinda.. thanks
Big Stan 64gb card works fine. You gotta remember these old school games were just kb worth of data, a whole collection could be like 900 mb.
What about PS1 games?
still maybe a 100mb to 300mb in file size. so not the whole collection.
+Javier Alba 35gb free
Just means you'll need a 64gb card to fit the image plus whatever roms you use, not that it takes up 64Gb of space at start.
if both 32gb and 64gb attract modes images don't include roms, which are the differences?
Damian Rene that's what I'm wondering.....maybe more wheels and more artwork ? Who knows....
32gb is for 32gb micro SD cards. 64gb is for 64gb micro SD cards. You shouldn't be flashing a 32gb image to 64gb card or vice versa.
thats not true at all.. that's what resizing the file system is for.
I'm trying to figure out why anyone would download this at all? Why not just install attract mode yourself?
p0tent : I've been wanting to do this....but not sure how to do the attract mode myself. this helps for us novice 😳. Is there a simple way to do attract mode...that already has all of the video snaps, etc...like this download has??
Great stuff.
I inserted the SD card into the PI console, and nothing happens. It won't output to any HDMI channel on my TV. Is there something I've done wrong? The power is on, everything is connected, I can't see any reason for there being no output.
Thx Kevin and eta!
eta you are the greatest. thx too Kevin great job.
Great video. Question...I use recalbox mostly because I love the rewind feature. As far as I know Retropie does not have this feature and Attract Mode runs on top of it. So, is there a way to either add the rewind feature to Retropie OR can I use Attract Mode on top of Recalbox instead...or did I miss the fact that rewind has been added to Retropie? Thanks in advance!!
Hi eta prime. I got attract mode up and running. Great job by kevin and great tutorial! Unfortunatley my roms dont have the (usa) in the end of their filename so i dont get any artwork up until i get them right. Do you know of any programs or such which does the job? Or else i'll have 50 hours ahead of me fixing every single rom on the pie. 😩😩 again great job on the tutorial. 👍🏼🙌
Excellent video, very informative but was wondering why there is no snaps, wheel, marquee etc... for MAME? Did I do something wrong? Everything else seems to be working fine with the exception of renaming stuff.
Hi - This video is great thanks for putting this together. Do you know if there is a way for this to work with 240p resolution for CRT TVs? The standard RetroPie Image can but I haven’t found a good theme for it yet. Attract Mode in 240p would probably look pretty nice on an old school CRT.
Hey, very important question, Can you add a coleico* vision emulator in attract mode and make it work like all the others?
Hey ETA, another great video. I know this isn't your build, but I tried to update kodi in the optional packages, and that seemed to break it. I'd like to update kodi because it's easy to get my PS3 controller working with kodi 17. Any tips or help you can give would be great because I've noticed this is a problem with other builds I've seen as well.
So since this image is 64 gb, does that leave practically no space for roms on a 64 gb sd card? I have a bunch of psx roms that I would like to include that are pretty large in size so would I need a 128 gb card in order to add them? Thanks for the awesome videos by the way!!
If you are really into PS1 roms, you'll probably want a 128 GB card. This image gives you 35GB free, which is still lots of room for PS1 games.
how is it possible to create the list of emulators at attract mode startup? what function or layout i have to set? thanks
Thanks for your help etaprime. Can I ask is this attract worth the change from retropie? Is it purely visual or does it improve gameplay please?
These are all front-ends for the games. It's just a pretty menu. They get out of the way when the game starts.
If the Keyboard controls are deleted and the select button doesn't work how can I edit attract mode to set up controls again in emu station?
i tried the way you said to install the roms, they dont show up in the attract mode but they do show up in emulation station
The game placed in the roms folder must have the same name of the boxart, marquee etc file name ?
Hi, I can't see the video's previews (near the game's name); I can see only the image. I checked in the folders inside my micro sd card and there are all the video previews; is there any settings to change? Thanks
I cant get the sega cd emulator to even show up its on the main wheel but when I go into the emulator list its not there
why the retroarch GUI is different from this and the 32 gb?
After renaming files the same. I still cannot get box art or video to show up on attract mode screen
Hey @ETA PRIME, I can't find a solution regarding the sound issue, can you help me? Sounds doesn't works and I'm not able to find if there's any config I should change... Thanks
In order to get your ROMs, did you download the large ROM "dump" and get all of them?
quick question, i installed attractmode from optional add ons from emulationstation but i don't see the "restat in Attractmode"
I can't get mine past the boot screen, saying something about the automatic login and command not found, and ideas?
but he is not using the newest version of Retropie right?
can somebody tell me why i dont have any video or image in the mame liberto i have a question mark where can i get inage or video thanks Pierre
a couple of quick questions , first off is there an easy way to rename the files to exactly what is in here , most of my rom packs were led as big dumps and not sure if they are in same format as you have here. don't want to spend hours renaming each one individually . also noticed the sega gen on here is the japan/pal setup . was this an accident and is the regular sega gen set to the wrong folder
good stuff thanks for sharing... can you do a video of how to do custom diplays/collections, for example a display for Vs. Fighting games from all systems you have installed in one place. Manual xml editing? Hope there is an easy way..
I put the magnet link in my torrent downloader and it will not download. It just fails
so, i dont understand is there any games (roms) on this image ? on video you sad no. But what is on it then ?
Need help: after inserting img SD 128gbs Samsung into RP3, the Retropie image shows up but after I am getting the following message in terminal: "/opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh: line 1: $'/377/377......: command not found"
Mame-libretro will not show on system wheel although it's already installed. I did find a typo in the menu-art file....mame libretro was misspelled (mame-liberto). I fixed that..added a few roms and wheel, snap art ......but even after rebooting ...still no change.....any suggestions?
Is there a way to boot the Pie 3b+ from an external harddrive where i can extract maybe an 256gb image on and boot directly in this image without sdcard in ?
Do you have a video that shows how to add kodi to the attract mode wheel?
is it necessary to connect a controller when first running this on my pi? can i just use a keyboard so i can set it up then install in my arcade cabinet and then connect my xarcade tankstick
Anyone have an issue with the robospin -advance theme not showing the game video previews correctly?
They are being shown at an angle in the top left of the blue console screen. I've tried re-uploading the theme but the same issue.
is this with the new script that just came out this past week? will any updates break this?
is their a smaller size to download and I need it to be configured to the latest version
PS3 controller still not working in attract mode only in emulation sation
Thnx ETA great video i did install everything is ok but in Attract mode i lost the exit picture in the wheel now i have a big "?" can't find the way to put the image back
thnx
Awesome.. your the man!
This is great!.... I just finished my assembly and got my Buffalo controller.... But i would like to know where to get the roms that other people may download to test system.... Thanks
Awesome videos as always wanted to know if you were gonna post a video of how to get recallbox on the odroid xu4
yes i am this weekend will be dedicated to the XU4 at least 4 videos will be uploaded.
ETA PRIME nice!! 👍👍
This image works on default, but if I want to upgrade the retropie and attract mode to it's latest version I will just get blank screen afterwards on attract mode startup. I can hear the intro video running on the background, but screen is just black.
If I ctrl+c out from the software I can see a flood of "failed to create texture, invalid size (0x0)" text. I tried editing attract.cfg to change some general settings; also tried to remove .cfg and running without it.
Found on google that atleast on windows machines "failed to create texture" is related to driver problem.
Any clue, is there something I can try?
How do you have enough room on the SD card for roms, when the attract mode image is large?
Prime, could you make a video on setting up collections? Either I'm blind or the documentation doesn't exist. I surely can't find anything.
Sega cd showed up in the display wheel but not in the emulator list so i added an entry pretty much used the same lines for sega cd as i did for 32x just with small differences such as /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/segacd/wheel. Everytime i go to load it now it stays on the main screen, and won't pull up the rom list. I can't find any issues other than glGetError 0x500...any ideas?
Hey prime. Can you make a video on how to add Kodi to the systems wheel? Please. It would be easier for the kids to get to it. Thanks.
Is there away to save button config? my buttons reset everytime i switch a game ie mame to neo geo to nes. i tried saving but does not work
What format does the sd card need to be? FAT32 or exFAT?
Thanks for the great video but the Roms don't show Up in the wheel for me. I have the Roms on a USB key and I have the correct ROM path in the settings, any ideas what could be the issue? thanks
Where i can find the correct romset? to match for the artworks...
Any idea if this will work with the Raspberrypi 4? or is there another download link for that?
so what happens if you try this with a pi 1?
Hi mate, I'm using a xinmo encoder on my set up. If I was to use attract mode would that controller still work as it needs an extra line of code in the cmdline.txt
Is that file still accessible in this image?
yes everything is the same as retropie. send me a link i we can add it to the next build
were you able to add the line for 2 player detection... I also have xin mo controller
is there a way to port what you did to the x86 version of retropie on Ubuntu?
Its not come with roms , 64g and no roms????
I put this image on my 128gb Micro SD card.. can I use the other 64gb for other stuff such as another OS or am I effectively wasting half my SD Card?
To ETA PRIME
just got the Kevin's 64gb attract mode I have it up and going I did the controller setup in retropie and in attract mode I can see may roms I put in nes folder but the controller won't let me play a game I can with keyboard the controller won't play any roms in attract mode or emulationstation is there something that I missed please help sorry if this is one that asked a hundred times
Got no sound over hdmi. When i use my other micro sd to run it as a media box, i have sound.
did you found any solution? I'm facing the same issue
If this has NO ROMS... Tell us what sets and where to get the right renaming Dats from, so the Scraper will work. Otherwise all the help in the world will leave it not working with no games displayed or wrong artwork. Ps do you own all them "ripped" roms?
how about a video or videos on must have/recommended games for RetroPie. games you like and know work fine on rpi3. like a top 10 list per console I guess?
+Juan Borges I was just thinking about doing a series on this topic today. LOL
ETA PRIME awesome keep up the great work.
Juan Borges
That would be nice because I would put the bad games in a separate folder that the system won't display.
this really is amazing work ...thank all you guys for all the stuff you come up with ..hope to see a series of top 10 or 25 games per console ...its really tedious going through 30000 plus rom files to find 50 that are actually worth taking up the space ....
How do I enable Favorite list?
Hello nice man! Do you know PS1 And Dreamcast games Works?? And ALL games Works Fine??
Excelent, Thanks.
how can i change the AM aspect ratio to 4:3?
Where do the config files you create in Attract Mode emulator config screen get stored? I've looked at /home/pi/.attract/emulators. Although there are emu config files in there(probably preinstalled on the image I downloaded) , any new emulator you might add does not appear in
that folder. I've just added the pcengine emu with success but the config file doesn't get stored in that directory. Akafox has been helping with a related problem regarding the Sega CD emu which doesn't work. Not only that but every I time I delete it and reinstall it .....it creates another system wheel art....so far I have 4 SEGA CD entries on the system wheel..could someone tell me where these files are stored. Obviously when I delete the emu ,some part of the config remains...thus the 4 system wheel entries. FYI....the image can be found on ETA PRIME site..."Kevins 64g Attract mode image."...also my roms and art are on a external usb drive.
I just tested the image & everything is working great except for a few minor problems. I know I'm late to the party but hopefully some nice people on here could give him a few pointers. Thanks in advance!
1) While in attract mod there is a question mark at the bottom lower left of the screen. Is there a way to get rid of it?
2) I've noticed that sometimes the preview videos glitches out for no apparent reason. I can scroll through again and let it replay no problem but it's just kind of annoy.
HEY COULD I ASK YOU A HUGE FAVOR, could you check and tell me if all the neon themes/layouts are installed on this image? Do you see them in displays?
@@brandonguindon1056 The ones I see are Neon main/arcade/console/handheld. 4 options when it comes to the Neon theme.
@@Garasky awesome! Did you test them out? Do they work on your display? Thank you for doing that!
@@brandonguindon1056 Everything run smoothly except for Neon "main" which I have issue with some video slow downs. It's the one with a girl sitting in front of a TV that's shown in the video.
@@Garasky i know, but it's worth it to have all those awesome neon themes since they are no longer supported on newer builds. Little secret i discovered, if you change the theme to prosperous and go into layout settings scroll down and change the background art to arcade 1 and 2 you'll find two new neon images. Pretty cool. Are you running the newest retropie version? Because i know that image is old and it's running an older version on jessie instead of raspian stretch
will it be easy to use and is it over clocked to play each game at full speed
i just want to clarify, so basically u need more than 64gb sd card since u will still add games
35gb free when installed on card
Thanks :) ill try this once i get my raspberry.
No TG-16, Hope it would have made the cut.
have a question do you know approximately how much space lelt to put roms on that projet image after extract on the pie... thanks
pierre
35gb
how do i have retropie on my 4gig sd card and have attract mode on my usb thumb drive? thanks
retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/
Awesome thank you!
