Watson Diesel Michigan Nationals (Session 3)

The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League teamed up with Michigan International Speedway and Slusarski Exc. & Paving, Inc. to present the Watson Diesel Michigan Nationals! This inaugural event took place on a brand new track on the Graves Farm property. Session 3 included Hot Rod Semis, Super Farm Tractors, and Mini Rod Tractors. The Hot Rod Semis were having some issues unfortunately, but some laid down some great passes. There was a bonus few trucks that pulled (not on the PPL event schedule for that day) and the Minis and Super Farms put on a real nice show. Rain and storms moved in after session 3, so they canceled session 4.

I was working at Yoders Gas Station on M-50 doing some cleaning and I could hear the engines.
The greenies must love it hehehehe
That Optimus prime Mack semi really tried to do a wheelie and he kinda pulled it off and that dodge semi did a good wheelie to be honest

Somebody help me out at 1:13 ,,, the truck that has the turbo sticking through the grill ... At the very end it looks like they filled up with ice or condensation ... Somebody comment and tell me ,,, what's going on thanks ... David ...
I got a good look at it that time ,,, it was the fuel vapor smoke ... When the turbos choked out ...
No I'm wrong if you look real close it looks like something they've got that flips up there to keep dirt from getting in and I've never seen anything like that somebody help me out please !!!
Those are a couple of metal covers that slip in to snuff out the air flow to the turbos. I saw this truck up close in the pits before the show.

Why do they all shut down the engine immediately at the end of a pull ? Just curious !
The most common reason is to reduce heat in the engines. These engines run very hot, and by shutting them off after a pass, it allows the cooling process to begin as soon as possible.
Interesting. I thought it would be wiser to let it run for a moment after a hot run to keep the (relatively) cool oil and water circulating to spread the heat and dissipate through the coolers. Especially with those huge red hot glowing turbos the oil might cook and cause clogging in the lines if it's left sitting in the hottest part. But i guess the professionals know best, i'm just an armchair mechanic who likes to speculate :D
Mikael - Also note (esp. on the mini rods, since it"s the easiest to see) the lack of a radiator, so no coolant running through the engine. Some of the semis you can also see the engine right through the grille - again, no radiator.

That makes sense. I guess i just assumed they have their radiators out of sight behind the cab to save space and shield them because you very rarely see the rear of the vehicles.

Does the weight travel at the distance pace or a timed pace?
Not sure what the drivers hope to achieve by steering.
Too bad some of the pulls were not filmed from a better perspective. All the equipment and folks blocking some of the action annoying.
This happens every time there is a double track. It gets frustrating for us video people too.
Charles Russell I can understand. Probably a little frustrating for fans watching too...well unless you are up high enough in the stands I suppose. I love watching truck and tractor pulls especially in person. Videos never do the actual sound justice. Great videos regardless. Thanks for capturing the action for us fans.
No problem, and I have actually heard fans complain about too much track equipment blocking the track. I understand trying to get the show done in a reasonable amount of time, however, the speed vs quality debate does come up. Pulls are always better in person, I totally agree! The sights, the sounds, the smells, feeling the power.. it's just an awesome experience. Glad you enjoy my videos! Lots more to come :)

Why do the pickups pull better than the semis?
The sled is set differently for each class of pulling vehicles. They added weights and changed gears in the sled for the Semi class. If the sled had the same weight and gear for the Semis as they do the Trucks.. we'd have Semis pulling off the track and into the pit area haha.

MMMM,cuanto tardan en ponerse al maximo regimen los motores,pero creo que deben tener un segundo inyector por cilindro cuando el turbo esta a tope,por eso la cantidad enorme de humo negro,que lamentablemente es donde mas potencia entrega.
Al fin un comentario en español, amigo por que es que les modifican el tubo de escapé en esa posición, alguna ventaja tal vez?

Hey tdbsnr, people who enjoy this are the one's that understand how much engineering and hard work goes into these machines. Ever hear of R&D,? Yeah, research and development. You do like to eat right? Just how do you suppose all that food gets to your table? Farmers, tractors, trucks and diesel fuel, that's how. And no, I'm not a farmer but I appreciate them just the same.
Sure, I appreciate all that hard work & engineering skills, but R&D? Perhaps. More like the boys havin' fun, burning off profits to reduce their tax bills. Now we're talking.
what a waste of good trucks. Of course the pick-ups are no big deal, but I hated to see that old Dodge and nice Peterbuilt's. plenty of work still left for them to do
