We have the same type of bread in Ethiopia & Eritrea made traditionally. We call it 'hebist' bread. It is quite soft and tender. Nice to see other countries do these method of making bread. Love from 🇪🇹

Had some neighbors from Ethiopia. When we first moved in the presented us with a “traditional” loaf of bread. It was very dense & hardy. It was dome shape & surprisingly heavy. They were very thoughtful neighbors
this was my very first time baking bread. I followed this recipe and it turned out soooo good.

I just baked this bread this afternoon, and I'm amazed at how it turned out!! I'm really bad at baking bread, and I didn't knead it properly so it got all sticky, and i thought for sure I'd ruined it, but it just came out of the oven and it's actually SO GOOD! I baked it in a cast iron pan since I don't have a steamer lol. Def gonna keep this recipe around! Thank you Helly 💖💖
How long did you bake it for?
@@misterdoon2260 usually with bread like this you know it is done baking if when you tap it it sounds and feels hallow. That's how I've always known my Finnish egg bread is done anyway.

it's a very nice change from the always-perfect other cooking channels
If you have a stand mixer with a dough hook you can do the making the dough part by mixing it on slow for about 2 mins and medium/fast for about 2-3 mins and do the same process after adding the butter.
Reason for adding the butter after the first procedure is because when dough contains fat (butter, shortening or oil) and it is more than 8-10% of the flour it will have an effect on the gluten bond; which will make the dough not as springy and you will get a flat bread.
I was wondering why you had to add butter after the first mix, thank you for that
Happy to see your comment before I even had to ask. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Ty. Any alternative to the steamer if you don't have one?
@@xLadyRaine You can just bake it in the oven with a pot of water in the oven.
Or you can just bake it normally. Won't be as springy/spongey, but in different ways better.
In Poland this type of bread is called pampuchy, but we don't bake it, just steam it and treat it as they were big, yeast noodles. Pampuchy may be eaten in various ways, as sweets with sour cream and sugar or with cooked fruits like cherries, or as savoury dish, with roasted pork and gravy.

In Yemen where my family are from, this is called kubaneh. Only we have a special air tight round baking tin and it cooks in its own steam but inside the oven. The only difference is the color, the oven gives it that golden brown outer crust. But method and texture is the same otherwise. I ❤️ this bread so much! Reminds me of my childhood. We eat dipped in sour cream or with a Yemenite version of salsa. It's truly as mouth watering as it looks and totally worth making! Thanks for sharing ☺️
I've worked with a Yemenite when I was working in the middle east and it was the first time I tasted this. Thank you for this gift!
In South Africa this is known as DOMBOLO
Oh I loved eating this in Saturday morning with hard boiled eggs
Can you share a recipe for Yemenite salsa?
@@gypsy547 we are so freaking unoriginal in the US, kubaneh and/or dombolo sound far more interesting than bread.

I just made this bread on the steamer and I cannot believe - , it turned out perfect...! So soft and so perfect

Can’t wait to try this. A lady at one of our farmers markets sells “milk bread” that looks similar but you can tell she bakes hers. The top and bottom are brown and it’s not at all soft or fluffy. I bought it once out of curiosity.. never again
Your recipe looks incredibly easy to replicate. It looks like kneading the dough is a critical step in forming the bread's softness. Thank you for sharing it with everyone.
Kneading is in almost every bread recipe I'd assume.
Kneading is how you create gluten.
@@user-iz5ki3jt3c Bread is not always kneeded! Sourdough bread is almost never kneeded. The dough is too wet for that. Though it is ”folded” multiple times the mechanical manipulation involved is far less than with most ”normal” bread. I don’t know the exact chemical process, but in between every fold there is usually quite a long rest period during which the gluten manages to develop by itself.
@@xavierninness394 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣ok.
@@danielschenker9874 but it was still kneeded
You can get something very similar without yeast if you beat the whites separately until whipped then fold them in last with perhaps some baking powder/soda just before folding them in to form the balls. You will achieve something of a souffle/spongecake/brioche.
Needs more likes, not a fan of handling yeast
@@semekiizuioAlso including the baking soda/powder, you can also take a strand of dough, flatten it into a ribbon and trim it with a pizza roller to a long rectangle and baste lightly with yogurt butter and thin layer of beaten whites, and fold to make buttermilk biscuits.
Where are we going to beat the whites?
I'm sorry but beaten eggwhites can't be 'folded' into bread dough. Care to point to a demonstration of this remarkable feat? Without yeast you will not achieve anything remotely similar to bread of any kind. If you want to make a cake, make a cake, because you aren't describing how to make bread at all. Your information is very misleading.
@@cuncata Flatten dough into long flat rectangle, line generously with beaten egg whites, FOLD over several times, stretch twice to work gluten and pack loosely into ball for immediate eggwashing and baking.
Thankyou so much! What a simple recipe! Look so good! 'll try to make it tonight. . .'m sure it will also taste good!

Still going to buy bread. I made a lot of bread in my life and it'll always take A LOT of time. This Video just makes it look easy.. its not unless you've done it hundreds of times and have all the measurements mesmerized
What really changed the game for me was getting a mixer with a dough hook. No kneading!
Exactly - doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Dough hook and mixer only. And you know exactly what is in your bread and it’s better for you. Store bought doesn’t hold a candle to it, clearly.
@Chickens and Gardening thank you for this tip!!! I have a Dutch oven and now I’m so excited to try🥹
Lazy
I've also made a lot of bread and it's quite easy (and I do an old-fashioned bake-in-oven type). Maybe 20 minutes of actual work. The rest is just setting it aside waiting for it to rise.
If you find bread super difficult and time-consuming to make, I'm honestly not sure what you're doing to make it so.
(I don't have a mixer, but I have a dough wisk and it's a game-changer.)
Oh my word, this looks absolutely delicious.
I made this today. My family absolutely loved the bread. I am making a second batch tonight. Thank you, Helly, for this wonderful recipe. I did bake the bread rolls at 350 for about 20 minutes.
I made this steamed and then brushed garlic oregano basil butter on top and broiled it to brown the top. It was a hit!
