- In this video, Nick is doing a full review of the Sage Spectrum C fly reel.
He's been fishing it on small rivers to medium-sized rivers in Europe. It has been handling it very well and loves the smooth drag on it, and it's just a beautifully designed reel. It's light, and it's not machined aluminum.

Tight lines! - Sport
Much more helpful review than most. So many reviews just take a reel out of the box and spin it and look at it. Your on the water testing for a period of time showed
(+) a very smooth drag startup and (-) the easy paint chipping. All that helps. Thanks.
Great reels. They fish extremely well. For $165 in my area, this reel in my opinion is hard to beat !! Thanks!
Just bought this reel based off your written review! Just happened to buy the same line coincidentally!
I've been a big fan of my Lamson liquid and Lamson remix but have also been looking at these sage spectrum C thanks for the review
Guide here, love this reels Drag system, overall hard to beat the value of this Reel..... my favorite for the $$$
Ya it's a great reel. I just picked up the Spectrum LT and it's a beauty, but quite a bit more $$$. Review to come 👍
Works good for catching salmon with a 7/8, but be sure to rinse well in fresh water after fishing! And be sure to dial the drag completely off when storing the reel.
Debating on a sage, Lamson, or a piscifun platte pro 9wt(if I can find a a platte pro). Not sure which one. Need an another one for salt water and bigger fish. Currently have a 5wt for freshwater
How do you think this pairs with a classic trout rod?
Does it make a nice clicking noise when a fish is pulling off line?
Nice reviews and I agree definitely deserves best value reel title. I have this reel and it does exactly the job a reel needs to do and looks 10x better than Lamson Liquid while at it. Next model up from spectrum C though isn't Spectrum Max, which is Sages high end multi purpose reel, but just "Spectrum". There's no difference to Spectrum C but it's machined, not cast aluminum. I think it's wrong to repeat that cast reels aren't as strong, because they use thicker material strenght to compensate, because of certain limitations to casting geometry the design can't also be as detailed. Probably biggest difference really is that anodizing cast aluminum doesn't work as well. The result wouldn't be as pretty, so they use paint or powder coat for finish, which makes cast aluminum stand out and as you noticed, paint chips. Would be interesting to know from larger sizes what's the drag force in numbers. 5/6 it's super good enough but a 9/10 one might use for fish that actually need bit of slowing down.
Orvis has this reel beat with the $98 Clearwater II or $119 Clearwater III.
Nice reel! Use it for golden dorado.
I cant seem to get a clear answer on where this or the machined spectrum are manufactured at are they all made in Korea??
Well definitely not the US as they're very clear they build their rods there, and then purposely vague that the reels are "designed" in the US. I've heard S.Korea from a few sources. You could always message Farbank and ask.
Got the 7/8 reel. Works well for salmon fishing in ocean, just wash off. A word of caution, don’t drop it, as hardiness ain’t it’s strong suit, neither is the black finish which wore away from line friction. All in all, pretty nice, could have more capacity and little overpriced, especially the spare spools.
It's such a myth that you need barstock, machined and anodized aluminum.
Wobbly spool not worth the money. Feels cheap
For Sage it is cheap. Having that warranty for the price really sets it up as a contender.
Just bought this reel based off your written review! Just happened to buy the same line coincidentally!
Awesome! how you liking it? It's done me well 😀
