    @gljames24 Před 5 lety +11

    Literally no! Nearly everything about this is wrong! Westinghouse was already using AC, they licensed the patents from Tesla Co., had Tesla on as an advisor, the Tesla induction motor ran at a constant 60Hz(the reason electricity and tv runs at that rate) and couldn't be used in a vehicle because it only had a constant speed. Westinghouse eventually went with a DC traction motor for their electric cars.

    Sadly this isn't any different than how people react to invention today. If someone comes along with either a finished product or the basis for one, people are SO quick to shut it down for any number of reasons. And generally these reasons stem from the complete inability to see the use of the invention due to their total lack of foresight, among other things, meaning the inability to justify any investment into it -- whether it be time or money invested.
    It's so strage to me to see just many people believe our progress is restricted to "what is and isn't possible". So many people have tricked themselves into believing that future inventions either aren't possible or aren't at all likely to be made because we've somehow hit a wall of creative limitation. When in reality very little progress is halted because of such limitations. Just knowing that something is possible isn't nearly enough to invent it. Inventions require a vision, someone who sees the possibility, believes in it, and also believes in the value of continuing forth. And it also requires diligence in the hard work, problem solving, and labor necessary to walk the path of construction.
    I like to look at the big picture. If you look around us, the VAST majority of all we see on this planet is man made. It didn't exist at one point. So if you took someone from 3000 years ago and showed them the modern world, I would bet they wouldn't have ever believed any of this to be possible. Yet here it is. The same goes for modern man and future man. If a modern man saw the advancement of humanity 1000 years from now, they wouldn't believe what they're seeing.
    Our only consistent limitation has always been ourselves. In fact when we look at history, we have no real reason to believe this won't always be our only real limitation. All that we have today that is now possible that was previously thought to be impossible is a prime example of the truth about possibility. What we believe to be impossible is only that: a belief. People treat these beliefs as if they're gospel. As if they're fact. As if they're anything other than our best guess. But I guarantee a lot of good would come of people standing back and realizing that our best guess is only a guess, and that life isn't always as it appears.

Westinghouse paid Tesla the equivalent 1.5 million dollars in todays money for his patents on AC motors, generators, and transformers. And he hired Tesla to get the devices to work in his electrical power system. Westinghouse and Tesla competed against Edison, and won. Westinghouse is one of the most interesting industrialists there is. He was an inventor himself. One of his most notable inventions was air brakes. It is an ingenious system that has brought reliable braking to trains and heavy trucks. Westinghouse was also good to his employees, and his customers.

      He didn't actually pay tesla that much because Tesla ripped the contract to help Westinghouse, but he was still a good guy.

      Because it’s a new technology. China is investing in UHV DC power lines to move power across their country. Siemens has already devolved and selling the technology for UHV DC utility lines.

    It's funny that people keep saying ac is better over long distances, but that's a misnomer. Very-high voltage dc is actually used for long distances and underwater cables as ac current attenuates over distance and passes current through insulators. The real reason we use AC for most power grids is the fact that AC is easier to convert between voltages with the use of a transformer.
