After watching a few dozen of Drain Addict videos, I've noticed a few odd things, at least odd from the perspective of a New Englander. All these homes seem to be stacked one atop the other, with a very small pathway between the structures. Is this typical everywhere? And whatever little path is there always seems to be loaded with any and all sorts of shit and debris. The other weird thing is all the plumbing that's outdoors. OK in one sense because it's unlikely to freeze, but it sure is subject to damage.. Not a big fan of the looks of it either, but that's minor. The other observation would be all the basements that look like half-completed demolition projects. Weird.
I've watched dozens and dozens of these videos and I'm still curious about the "external" plumbing, and the only real thing I can figure is the buildings were built before the age of indoor plumbing, and it was added later. the easiest way being to just run the pipes outside along the walls? I have seen things like water heaters just sitting outside next to buildings too which sort of amazes me also, but they seem to have some kind of covers to help keep the rain out. The other oddity is the boundary traps. It seems to be a super size J trap but for an entire house or building. Is this because the fixtures in the house generally didn't have individual traps, or is just a secondary thing to make sure there's no possibility of sewer gasses going back up the pipes? In the US I don't think boundary traps exist, and instead every fixture has a trap on it, along with vent stacks that exit the roof. On the videos the vents seem to be at ground level and eject the contents when the line backs up. That seems to be a better idea than the toilet backing up at least. haha
I saw that they did this type of plumbing when I visited England due to the old brick structures before indoor plumbing. I did not think Australia had that old of structures. It just seems odd to run a drainage pipe along the ground.
Love your videos. I drop whatever I'm doing when I see that you've posted.( when I'm not working lol ) keep up the great work. Sending lots of love from Massachusetts USA
