  • Rebuilding a Triumph Speed Triple RS engine is actually pretty easy when it is a a young motor. In this episode we rebuild a motorcycle motor out of a 2020 speed triple rs. It was a straight forward process and I showed as much as I could so if any one is embarking on their own triumph engine rebuild they can use this as a visual how-to reference.

    When putting the engine cover on the alternator magnet, I have a selection of long bolts with the heads cut off. I screw 3 or 4 of these into the engine and then place the cover over them and slide it up the bolts. It saves the risk of trapped fingers, and helps keep the gasket in place.👍

    One thought Jeff, using a warm (50 C) ultrasonic bath with Neutracon cleaner (nonferrous metals) and Decon 90 for ferrous metals from Decon, can be a really effective way to remove contamination from parts, without having to scrub and use abrasive tools. Also you can leave the process to run, while you're doing something else.

    • @mendingmotos
      @mendingmotos  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes that is one tool I def want. I have always wanted an ultra sonic cleaner and a vapor honing blasting cabinet. But yes in the future I might just take all my parts to some one so I can save my wrist and shoulders … and elbows from pain lol

      That’s going to be an exciting rebuild! I have rebuilt several motors but this one seemed the most daunting but actually was the easiest. Just remember to check your bearing gaps with the plastic gage, I did that off camera but it took the most time. Good luck with the build!

    Oven or grill cleaner works great for removing carbon buildup. I will say I haven’t experimented with it and aluminum. I also know it will remove paint.

    • @mendingmotos
      @mendingmotos  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yea this is only my second time having to remove carbon so I’m def a noob but I did see a guy use gasket remover and it came right off …. Idk what’s in that stuff but it made quick work of it and oven cleaner is another good idea. I need to find an old head with a bunch of carbon on it and test all the different chemicals!

  • @pc5147
    @pc5147 Před 5 měsíci +1

    cool! Did you remove/reseal the liners or did you leave them in situ as they were?
    BTW, acetone-based gel gasket remover does a great job as carbon remover (piston heads etc); it takes time to soak, but no need for abrasives.

    about the tool at 20:31 you dont need that tool honestly.. they sell a similar one made of plastic with a rubber belt that gets tighter as you twist and is only like 10 bucks at lowes..imo theres a bunch of tool that triumph wants you to get but almost all of them you dont need or you can just buy alternatives and they just work as good as theirs.. theres a secured lock nut for the frame and swingarm that is pretty expensive that you can literally make one with a socket and put a notch with a grinder lol

    • @mendingmotos
      @mendingmotos  Před 3 dny

      Yes I actually had one of those rubber oil filter removers and when using the tool I bought.. it dawned on me that I wasted money on a tool lol and yea idk if you saw I just used the oem suspension tool that’s in the bike in order to tighten the engine bolt spacers, they wanted like I think 100 for the special (flat head like socket) yea just have to look at the issue and see can I do it with the tools I have next time lol

    hello mate, im back again, wanted to ask whats the 3rd stage for the head bolts... i heard it was 20nm-40nm-then 90 degrees...? what torque did u use for the 3rd stage?can understand the nm for 90 degrees

    • @mendingmotos
      @mendingmotos  Před 14 dny

      Hey this is straight from the manual:
      A) Tighten the cylinder head bolts, in the same numerical sequence used to release the bolts, to 20 Nm.
      B) Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the same numerical sequence used to release the bolts, to 40 Nm.
      For the final torque operation, which again is carried out in the same numerical sequence used to release the bolts, a 'torque turn'
      method is used. The bolts must be turned by 90° to reach the final setting. To accurately gauge the 90° turn,..
      And I don’t know what that 90 degree equivalent to a torque is I just did the 90 degree lol hope this helps

      @@mendingmotos thank u mate, last thing really im finishing the engine…how do you release the chain tensioner? I read that u need to rotate the engine 1/4 anticlockwise but when i checked the upper timing they werent matching…

    • @mendingmotos
      @mendingmotos  Před 7 dny +1

      @@matiasmendez6174 you can rotate it counter clockwise you can also rotate the engine in the correct order several times and it can release that way. You can also tap it with a wrench and it could release that way. There are a lot of different ways but go by the manual to turn it backwards, just a little bit and it should release and it’ll be audible. You’ll hear it.

      @@mendingmotos Great bro. That's why so you didn't take precise measurements for some components for having everything perfectly adjusted, because it all was already mounted; basically same pieces fitted in exactly same places as before. I've really got scared initially because I wanna get a Speed Triple 1050R 2016 or 2017, the latest that arrived here in Brazil, and if there's an unknown common problem with them, but it was caused by a crash, so. Thanks and best regards.

    • @David40S
      @David40S Před 5 měsíci

      I would suggest checking that the gears are in good shape. The gearbox is one weakness on the 1050, especially if a quick shifter has been used. One other thing to look at is the stator/rectifier on earlier models, which have a bad habit of burning out, often needing replacement. Also recommend replacing the OEM cables between the ignition and the starter motor with beefed up versions. These tend not to be up to the job. Otherwise the Speedy is a superb bike and you won't be disappointed.
