Thanks for the video. 9 years later it helped me out. Great job helping us shadetree mechanics keep our rigs going and keeping money in our pocket. Cheers
there is a support bracket that attaches to the side of the block and the pump. Make dam sure you re-attach that support bracket back on after you do the repair. This is a long heavy assembly that can cause other problems if you don't. It's a pain in the butt to get to it and get the bracket attached but it is a must to attach.
Just pulled my P7100 Injection pump because I found diesel in the injector pump with the oil. I figure the Seals got hard, or brittle inside it. That means the engine oil has some diesel in it too. So I decided to go ahead and reseal the entire engine and vaccum pump while I have it off. (Had to strip the side of the 5.9L 12 valve because it's in a FERD, Class A, RV and it has to come out the bottom because the dog house makes getting to the left side of the engine impossible. Engine is under the floor)
This video lays the vaccum pump rebuild out so easy. 2 Thumbs up!
Going to bump up the ponies on the injection pump while it's being rebuilt because, Why Not!
My 33 years old Coach sat for the last 10 years, (health issues) so ALL the hoses and belts in the Coach are being replaced as well.
Something most UTube Channels fail to mention when rebuilding old equipment.
Min 18:28 to hook up the reservoir in, you can rotate the cogwheel it'll make the dog hook/connect the reservoir male easier. Great video! Saving us the commons 1000s. Take care!
Awesome video you guys, you guys helped me get my truck ready in time to do a road trip and visit my family, y’all rock 👏🏻
What timing my power steering pump just went! This helps. Thanks for the video take care guys :-)
Why do we install the main seal dry instead of with oil?
Oh man am I happy to have found this video. Sounds exactly what my problem is. Driving home on Friday I lost alot of power, truck was rolling mad coal (unintentionally 🙃) and I felt like I lost my power steering as well. I'll be looking at my hydraulic pump and vacumm tomorrow.🙏
@@gabe1254 boost leak. Before going into resealing your vacuum pump. Check for boost leaks. I had a blown intake manifold seal. Plus other leaks in the system.
@Steve Saenz yes on the vacuum pump there's a vacuum line that goes to the brake booster right in the middle of that line is a T valve for a nipple for vacuum that little vacuum line feeds a little relay and distribution on the driver fender it looks like a little relay well there a nipple on that where a 1/4 inch vacuum line feeds from the T on the pump to there they rot off and then you have no 4x4 , a/c & heat only works on defrost vents until your mobbing on the freeway and have enough rpm then it works and also IT affects cruise control
@@johnnytiboni6745my issue is ac/heat on defrost only plus cruise control haven’t experienced steering or 4x issues yet
I saw someone else replace that inner seal without removing the seal retainer(collar) of course there’s the o-ring
Nice video
So you install the "culprit" seal dry. Question, do you lube the seal before you insert the hydraulic pump shaft through it when you are engaging the drive dogs? Thanks !!! I need to do this on my '99, extremely good video !!!
I put on a borgeson power steering pump and a vacuum pump from peter gould. It worked for a couple hours. Are borgeson hd pumps junk?
Can you link the part number or where you got the new dog coupler?
What power steering pump did you replace it with?
Would that seal being bad allow oil to come out of the top of the vacuum pump? There looks like a little weep hole on the top side and is leaking engine oil pretty bad and soaking everything.
i thought my power s pump went out so I changed it and still not my steering or my brakes work..i looked in the end of the vacuum pump and started it and the vacuum pump was spinning but I didn't check the drive dogs on the vacuum pump so that probably what happened is they broke off
My 01 leaking oil bad in the general location of the power steering pump is it more like this leaking and not my tapper cover or more likely my tapper cover? Leave a big puddle of oil after driving
Is there anywhere where I can just buy the seal retainer sleeve by itself?
Grandpa's truck doesn't have the ring to press out of the bracket between power steering pump and vacuum pump. Is this stock?
Mine is leaking from the main seal butted to the timing cover.
It really is this easy. Getting the assembly off the truck was a nightmare
Your right, it takes more time to get the vacuum pump off than it does to rebuild it.
I bought a replacement pump gor my 95 and it came with one less tooth on the gear and won't mesh up!!
I put a new vacuum and power steering pump and it leaks at the shaft what can I do to stop it its brand new already
How different is this from a 1993 vacuum pump?
Do you know if they make a kit for the earlier 5.9 12valve Cummins because I'm have a similar problem on mine.. Thx
If you have the earlier three piece vacuum pump I would suggest contacting Gould Gear and Electric for a rebuild kit.
When I halfed the vacuum pump the dogs from the pump side are gone like mentioned. Where can they go I see em no where!?
I bought this kit from you guys and just finished re sealing the pump and am getting ready to put the vacuum pump back on, When installing the vacuum pump back on the gear case, which direction does the big gasket go on? The gasket seems to have a raised lip on the inner portion and don't know which way its supposed to face. Please help! I don't want any leaks
Where is the leak point
Mine is leaking at the point where it connects to the block.
Could I just un bolt and slide a new contact seal
Ours was leaking at the seal between the bodies. If yours is at the mounting gasket, go for that.
Thanks for this. I also like the hint of checking to be sure that one nut is tight before loosening it. I do that quite often myself.
I'll be sure to check the vac pump before doing the tappet cover.
Mine keeps leaking oil. It leaked a lot. I took it apart twice already and it still leaks. Not a little bit a lot... what could I be doing wrong?? Plz help
What about the vanes in the pump? Need to replace them if low vacuum?
They can wear out but we don’t hear of it much. Several 300K plus motors out there with stock vanes.
If you have a vacuum leak somewhere, will it make steam or vapor come out your oil cap???
It appears to only be leaking from the main seal on the pump itself, can I remove it from truck and just clean main seal and put new gasket then put back in, or should I complete the additional steps you have in the video?
Just going off the knowledge of fix only what's broken and only appears to be leaking from main seal
Same thing happened to me! Lost my heat first, now I have no power steering or brakes! Will this fix it?
No, sounds like you have something going on in your power steering pump. Resealing the vacuum pump will stop any oil leaks and get the vacuum pump back working correctly.
I have a 95 12 valve would this kit work for that year?
The kit will work but this video is for a 2 piece vacuum pump so some of the processes may be different.
Got a 97 dodge 12Valve I got no power steering and no brakes! Could it be the vacuum pump?
Could be the power steering pump or the vacuum pump if it has a booster.
When removing the vacuum pump do you need to remove engine oil first? Also, what is the part # for the dog if broken?
No you don’t have to drain the oil. If the dog is broken, I would replace it.
Quick question would a vacuum pump off of a 2001 24v automatic work on a 1999 24v manual?
my 2nd gen is leaking power steering fluid right under where the pump is, so this is probably the issue?
Thoroughbred Diesel kits only 30 dollars so I'll go ahead and buy one and change it anyways.
I'm going to do this in a few days. I have a question for you though. My PS works great all the time, but I seem to have an occasional vacuum problem that makes my brakes feel as though there is no vacuum getting to them (solid pedal). It always goes right back to normal. If there something on the pump I should be watching out for, or look for the issue elsewhere? Also, thanks for the Bean's tappet cover, can't wait til it gets here.
I have a solid pedal in mine too but all the time. I started to tear into it
Are you sure that your brakes are vacuum? These trucks use hydro boost brakes.
@@rudychacon7175 Vac and hydro are both brake boosting methods. I have a 2002 2500 ram with hydroboost.
Can the power steering pump be rebuilt ?
We do not offer a PS pump rebuild kit. We actually do not see a lot of PS pump failures in these trucks, but I assume someone offers a rebuild kit for it.
Does this work on a 93 12valve?
The seals are the same, yes, but getting the 3 piece pump apart is different than the assembly shown here.
Who was the main culprit ?
Torque specs? So I don't over tighten...
Bearing housing to vacuum pump housing = 22 ft lbs, power steering pump to vacuum pump = 18 ft lbs, the two bolts holding it to the gear case = 57 ft lbs, pump support bracket to block = 18 ft lbs, nut on power steering pump = 18 ft lbs.
@@thoroughbreddiesel, thank you for this and the video! No doubt will be purchasing from you guys in the future. Excellent stuff!
He still selling the drive dogs
Maybe talk at the end when people understand what's going on... Not beforehand
"Make sure you take your time and do this correctly" as you tighten the nut instead of loosen it 😂 all jokes aside this is a good video. My truck sprung a massive leak between the vacuum case halves
