The ER in "ER collets" does not stand for "extended range". The company Regio-Fix invented ER collets as an improvement over the already existing "E-collets", and by adding their initial to it the name "ER collet" was born.

I've heard it both ways, but if you know firsthand what you are saying is true, then I thank you for sharing your wisdom!

The slot in an R8 collet is not to make sure it is indexed properly, it is simply to stop it spinning when tightening the drawbar. Likewise with the C5, the grub screw does not have to be tightened into the collet slot. It is also just to stop the collet spinning when tightening.

In Britain a "wrench" is called a "spanner". So in Britain, a "spanner wrench" would have to be called a "spanner spanner".

Great video for anyone new to machining (and especially with using collets) but one thing that is incorrect, You CAN in fact do eccentric turning with any collet that you can get an emergency collet in (I've done it many times). All you have to do is bore or mill your hole or shape it off-center in the emergency collet. The only key aspect about it is that you need to make sure that your off-center feature is in an area that will still be in good contact with at least two of the three sections created by the slits. You want to be in contact with all three but you DONT want a majority of you contact to only be in one with minimal in the other two. If it were like this, you will end up with very minimal clamping pressure which obviously is very undesirable. On the other hand, if you are in good contract with two of the three and minimal in the third, you will still have very good clamping pressure (maybe not 100% but still very good... (I've never had a part slip doing it like this)).
Anyways, as said, "great video..." and just wanted to throw in the info about eccentric turning.

You can also do eccentric turning using the collet block in a 4 jaw chuck.

5:25 - there is NO way that "keyway" is going to provide any level of indexing. That "keyway" and the corresponding screw/pin in the spindle is ONLY there to aid in screwing in the drawbar - it keeps the collet from spinning. IT IS NOT AN ALIGNMENT PIN.
