The eagle fled when the king activated his aura and had that one ego trip. You can see it fly away, maybe even subconsciously influenced by his aura to attack Komugi. There is a symbolism here. Subtext even. Dare I say a metaphor.

My favourite part of the name question is it foreshadows the route each of the Royal Guard is going to go down.
Pouf - Cares about the king as a title and who he wants him to be. He protects the king's image.
Youpi - Cares about the king's body and safety, no more. He protects the king's body.
Pitou - Cares about the king's feelings and who he is. She protects the king's mind/heart.

@@Oscar-ek2jx It's also why the Royal Guard did what they did during the invasion.
Youpi immediately engaged the enemy to protect the King.
Pouf was too concerned about the King in his mind to think about what the King would actually do or to engage with his enemis.
Pitou went straight to where the King was.

I'm pretty sure the king saying "Right, you're Pouf." was more of a "Oh yeah, you have a name that I always call you" as if it never really occurred to him until today. That these people having names was so natural and that he uses them, but he never considered the fact that he somehow doesn't have one. I seriously doubt he forgot any of them or that it was any kind of put down of Pouf in general.

The scene of Meruem killing the eagle is one of the first scenes that started to make Meruem arguably the best villain in the story as he has the internal conflict to why would he a monster and the pinnacle of strength be concerned with the health of a weak human who he thought he wanted to kill. This arc is regarded as one of the best story arcs in anime history, and Meruem being the main antagonist is a huge reason to why.

  • @coolsprites4405

The eagle, a whole narrative arc on its own 😂. Nen, as a vital *and* spiritual form of energy, can influence anyone's physical *and* mental state (including behavior, by correlation). We also saw from the begining of this arc, at least, that wild animals are very sensitive to it. Hence, when the king released a "hostile" Nen (purple) to cope with his existential crisis, this poor eagle reacts accordingly (flee and fight, chaotically). Plus, in the manga (not sure in the anime) this very same eagle also encountered Netero *before* the king, and Netero's murderous nen (he was meditating to strengthen his nen for the fight) forced the lil dude to change its trajectory, ending up to the palace. The eagle desserved a whole manga: Life and Death of a True Hunter. Rip birdy, u won't be missed tho

It would have been so easy for this arc to have been a fight of base instinct vs higher thinking, ant vs human, and it sorta tricks you into thinking that at the start, but it slowly builds up the fact that there's really no clear distinction between the two, higher thinking isn't separate from our biology it's simply another facet like our limbs and organs, the king learning to love, to have empathy, and to protect the weak makes complete sense, as in a way that's the 'winning move' in the game of evolution, it prevents loss of life and it encourages growth as it means not everyone has to dedicate themselves into physical strength, they can venture out into other pathways of greatness.

  • @Arkayjiya
    @Arkayjiya Před měsícem +3

You're really getting Pouf's number here, seeing the king as his nature or his function. You got Pouf on one side who needs the King to fulfil his role as Ant King and would stop at nothing to make that happen and Pitou on the other side, who would happily follow the King if he decided to spend the rest of his life fishing in a pond without doing anything to try and change his mind. With Youpi awkwardly stuck in the middle xD
I disagree with you on Pitou's answer on the name thing. Being given the choice is not always something people either think they can do, or feel legitimate in doing. Reminding them of that option, reminding them that they choose their own values and worth as people, that they exist outside of how they're defined by others, is always useful. Especially for someone like the King who has been defined by his function until now, he could have been particularly vulnerable to that pitfall. It's not the answer he was looking for, but it could have been so it was worth stating. Pitou's answer is not a cop-out, like the "you choose" answers can often be. It's legitimate in this context.

I hate to say it but sometimes I see a bit of pouf in myself where I tie way to much value to titles and ideals of myself. I also have a bit of youpi where I sometimes go screw it I think to much just move and act. Then other times I am really self reflecting and just sorta let emotions and thoughts and actions develop like pitou.
On a side note I love how if even a single one of the royal guards were to leave the kings side to go on the offensive the humans would probably be screwed lol. Their loyalty to the king is so absolutely it can be almost smothering and overbearing at times. Pitou is out here analyzing deep purple at range and making battle calculations yet she cant move from her little perch. Its funny but like we also have the stark contrast of her blitzing Kite from what must have been miles away and like that could very easily be morel lol.
Also I just made a interesting mental comparison between morel and Kite’s conduct and philosophy. I imagine both of them to be on fairly equal footing respectively however it makes me wonder what if their situations were reversed. Its sorta head canon but I do believe kite would share morels nen philosophy however in that moment in the ngl he directly tells gon and killua to run because he recognizes that it is not a shame to run away and survive to fight another day. Kite however sticks to his guns in order to fight pitou with his crazy slots. It is arguably if he thought he could win but I believe he went in to that fight with full resolve just like morel practices.

I find it interesting that you disliked Pitou's answer so much, when I thought it was extremely apt. Names are what people call you, but you can *always* change that. I don't carry the names my parents gave me, but they call me by my (new) name all the same. We, as humans, always have a choice- in everything we do, and that includes self-identity! "Who am I?" is perhaps one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves, even when the answer is very very simple: who do you want to be?

The downfall of force as the ultimate power is that unlike the king, who is a monster, for humans force is a collective power. No one man can stand against an angry mob. So being able to consolidate power over people becomes a powerful tool of force, and to that end, you need to observe your own social interactions with others and decide how you will navigate them. Humans are such social creatures that it is built into even the most base level of power.

Yeah it's very limited, and it's also just wasteful generally speaking. Nature "knows" this and so through selective processes a lot of animals have figured out that rather than kill each other it's better to just do a physical demonstration or contest and go by the results of that. It avoids needless destruction and is better for everyone long term. That overwhelming force to get what you want and is best for you thing may be valuable and work short term for you but eats itself over time
