      @Il Selvaggio
      So what? Hes was a soulless vampire, by default hes evil. He started small, but had his own rules.
      He was becoming good without a soul, then he saw he needed his soul to get it right.
      So he goes through the demon trails, gets his soul back for the woman he loves, and finally becomes the good guy he was meant to be.

    • @Doctor_Odin
      @Doctor_Odin Před 5 lety +21

      @Il Selvaggio there were signs that he was into her before the chip it was just more noticeable with the chip in. Because the chip was is before a real muzzle / collar without a soul he couldn't distinguish it between territorial infatuation and actual love. It wasn't that he was incapable of it is that he wasn't able to understand what it is to be in love.
      It's the whole definition Animal pack mentality of love vs. human definition of love. With the vampires being a mix of animal and human being that without a soul there more prone to instinctual actions versus the higher thought that they are still technically capable of.

    When Spike was on screen, he instantly drew your attention, but when Angel was on, you sat and waited for something to happen. Spike could entertain with just his quips and charm. Angel needed something else in the scene to work with in order to hold your attention.

    Any adult person on here choosing Bangel over Spuffy needs to rewatch the show and pay attention. You have to put them on equal playing fields, not compare Soul Angel to Soulless Spike:
    Soulless Angel vs Soulless Spike: Angel tried to kill Buffy and all her friends and DID kill Ms. Calender without any remorse. He relished in it. Spike was a villain but never as evil as Angel. He attempted (not succeeded) to rape Buffy and immediately felt remorse and was so sickened by his actions he fought like hell to get a soul...FOR HER. Because he loved her even though his demon self should make him do the contrary.
    Soul Angel vs. Soul Spike: Angel stalks a 15 yr old girl from the shadows, eventually sleeps with her (statutory much?), and basically walks around brooding all the time and staring into each other's eyes. Just a teen romance fantasy. Boring! Spike never forces her into anything ever again. He still loves her and is willing to show that through friendship or less, whatever she wants. They have a mature and dynamic relationship and friendship. He becomes a champion & helps her save the world, again, by sacrificing his own life. #SWOON!
    Human Angel vs Human Spike: Angel is a drunken, sexist, pig disowned by his family (who he eventually murders btw). Spike is a sweet, slightly pathetic, hopeless romantic writing poetry and caring for his ailing mother.
    Summary: Spike is ALWAYS the better man in each case. and the whole "rape is unforgivable" thing, imo it works in the real world but not with BTVS and soulless demons. Buffy played way too many games (sleeping with him and emotionally abusing him) and at the time they had that weird sexual violence thing going,...again, with a DEMON. Not too smart. Even still, he knew he was wrong, redeemed himself, and btw they end up together anyway so yeah, let that go.

      Exactly!!. SPIKE WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN ANGEL!!

    • @ms_scribbles
      @ms_scribbles Před 6 lety +168

      THANK you. Spike was always the better person. He proved he could be a better person (but not a perfect one) even without a soul. Angel proved that the ONLY thing making him a good person is the gypsy curse. As soon as the curse breaks, he's so evil even soulless Spike is a bit disgusted by him. Unlike soulless Spike, Angelus never, ever had the urge to make things right when he fucked up, like when Spike almost raped Buffy and went to get his soul back. Angelus would have never done that. He would have gone ahead with it and would not have stopped when Buffy shoved him back.
      And yes, it all stems from who they were as people before they became vampires. Liam was, as you said, a pig and a violent alcoholic. William was a gentle soul with a romantic streak a mile wide. Their human natures influenced who they'd be as vampires. Angelus was made an even worse pig than before and instead of relying on booze, he relied solely on the high of torturing and killing people. Spike did have all the violent urges that any vampire has, and enjoyed killing, but he still had the romantic streak in him and had the ability to eventually unlearn most of what Angelus taught him and learned to focus his violence in the right direction. Angelus would NEVER do that, and it had nothing to do with not having a soul. He didn't WANT to.

      not to mention that even when spike turned into a vampire unlike angel who killed his whole family including a sister he loved spike just wanted his mom to live forever and be with him spike always had the capacity to love even without a soul wheras angel didn't and the proof is that they both had someone they loved spike had his mom and angel had his sister but when they both lost their souls angel killed his sister and spike only wanted to be with his mother and then later he really loved dru and would do anything for her whereas I really don't think angeles loved Darla and then later spike cared about buffy and dawn and joyce without his soul but angeles has never cared about anyone without a soul

Can't writte a better one"....even if you wer rught that spike would be the better man (an i disagree), her heart and her soul belong to Angel. Angel only loves buffy because of his curse and the minute the curse is gone he tries to torture her sadistically into insanity before killing her. Of course spike should have been the one. • @alexh8613
      @alexh8613 Před 5 lety +14

      Spike didn't go out and get his soul because of Buffy. That was writer's revising the scripts in order to satisfy the audience's wants. It is very clearly stated in the episodes Seeing Red and Villians of season 6, that Spike went through all these trials in order to get the chip out of his head, so that he could revert back to his old self as a vampire. The demon tricks him and gives him his soul instead. I hate how in season 7 of Buffy, Season 5 of Angel and even Joss in interviews says that he went and fought for his soul. No he didn't. He was fighting to get the chip out.
      SPIKE: (In a menacing voice) Get nice and comfy, Slayer. I'll be back. And when I do ... things are gonna change.
      DEMON: Something about a woman. The slayer.
      SPIKE: (nods, barely concealed anger) Thinks she's better than me. Ever since I got this bleeding chip in my head, things ain't been right. Everything's gone to hell.
      DEMON: Look what she's reduced you to.
      SPIKE: It's this bloody chip-
      SPIKE: Bitch is gonna see a change.

      Alex H The way I took it, Spike only SAID he was fighting to get the chip out, when he finally got his soul back, that's when you knew what he was really fighting for.
      The way I took Spike saying things are gonna change (when he gets back), yes, he was angry, but the way I saw that was that he was angry at himself most of all and also, he was even more hurt, and probably ashamed, than angry, for what he had almost done to the woman he loved.
      Even when he said "Bitch is gonna see a change", I feel like he was saying that when he got his soul, he would be good enough for her then.
      Funny how different people see the same thing differently. :)

      @@neumanasare8864 The way they wrote Spike on Angel undid a lot of the character development he went through on Buffy S7. But, Angel wasn't much better right after he got his soul. He rejoined the vampires and tried to fit in with all the murdering, helped them out. Even though Angel knew about slayers and that he could fight evil if he chose. Right after Spike got his soul, Spike tried to atone, to help Buffy, and because he sensed danger. He didn't plan to stay, knowing it would trigger her, but she was in danger. It was only when The First made him crazy that he let his secret out. He wasn't doing it for credit or a pat on the head. I think he did do it for Buffy. Before Drusilla got hold of him he was a sensitive soul who wrote bad poetry. He truly liked Buffy’s mom because she was nice to him and was saddened by her death. Even when he was at his most evil he’d occasionally slip up and do something noble - like let Glory beat him to a pulp instead of telling her Dawn was the Key. And when Buffy confronted him in the church when he was first “resouled” he was, honestly, too screwed up in the head to lie about why he’d done it.

      I think if you have a good actor then even one dimensional throw away characters can be good and Spike is a great example. As everyone knows he was only supposed to be on the show for a few episodes but James did so well with the material he had. I think that and the chemistry he had with the others especially SMG made them realise he could be more than a throw away. On the flip side of David, when you see James now, it's like it's always a version of Spike he is playing.

Well, in the last episode she finally looks at him like he held the earth and takes initiative to say she loves him and he returns that with "No you don't." Idk why people can’t understand that she loved BOTH Spike and Angel, simply in different ways. Her love with Angel was the ‘Epic’ teenage romance that we all dream about, and it was one for the ages, especially for a generation of teenagers. THAT is why Joss said it was one of the greatest. It resonates with teen until this day and it is infamous amongst pop culture... of COURSE it’ll be his greatest. But that doesn’t mean that she loved Spike any less. Buffy’s romance with Spike was VERY different. It was more mature that Bangel and in a way even more realistic because relationships aren’t always teen perfect, they can be shitty, but it also showed the ability of a person to CHANGE (in both Buffy and Spike). Neither Romano was better or greater than the other. They were both what Buffy needed at the time, and the men were also who Buffy needed in their life at the time.

    I feel like my heart is breaking. I am not sure whether I should watch Angel or not because I don't think it's as good as Buffy (I only watched the pilot and it looked boring to me.) I definitely would have watched a Spike show.
    One of the main reasons why I liked Spike more than Angel (Aside from the normal ones like their pre-soul behaviors) --
    Angel left Buffy saying he wanted her to have a normal life. But Buffy will never have a normal relationship because she is the Slayer. Buffy DIED when he was gone.
    Spike Stuck around to help. And when Buffy was gone, and they never thought she will come back, Spike took care of Dawn and kept the scoobies alive. When those demons came to town, Dawn would have been alone and gotten hurt if Spike hadn't stayed with her, even though she said that he can leave.

She is telling Spike as her boyfriend/partner that she loves him, not for the first time as he is dying - i.e, they eventually got back together. Which perhaps wasn't clear to you form Inesha Dixon's comment? Course, since Joss is still overseeing the comics, it can't last forever. :D

    I can say from experience that you should always choose the one who makes you laugh over the broody “mysterious” one that makes you feel like a Wuthering Heights character. A) humor will get you through the hard shit. B) broody equals moody and you will suffer for it eventually. And C) if he is going out of his way to even TRY and make you laugh that’s an expression of true love cause he will make a fool of himself at some point, he knows it, but he’s doing it anyway to see you smile.

    As a mortal Angel was just a womanizing scumbag, drunk. Spike was the sensitive poet. The minute Angel loses his soul he wants to torture and kill Buffy. Spike fell in love with her without a soul and loved her with his soul restored. That greater demon actually did him a huge favor...

    the fact that spike loved her without a soul and endured so much hardship to get it back for her and ultimately sacrificed himself to save the world and her are just some of the few reasons why Spike and Buffy were meant to be. that speech he gives to buffy towards the end of season 7 when she is feeling very lost and he's explaining why he loves her and that she's the one not because she's the slayer but because she's her that broke me. nothing Angel did will ever match that (not to say i dont like angel i do, but it was always a star cross lovers kind of vibe and we know it will never amount to anything)

    Spike is a being of pain and passion. Three scenes are very defining. The back story where the girl (who may or may not be that vengeance demon,) tells him 'You are beneath me', and then later on Buffy says the same. Combine that with the Church scene where Spike reveals that he got his soul back for her, and the whole character becomes very clear. I find it really hard to decide where I am at with Spike. On the one hand, he has intense amounts of chemistry with Buffy, and gets his soul back for her. On the other hand, he tried to rape her, and was very abusive to her. But then again, this was after months of her being abusive to him and treating him like dirt. In the end, when they worked through their problems, I believe they worked very well together.

      Bea Gale I agree. Their chemistry was the best. I agree that Spike trying to rape Buffy was wrong, but this wasn't his intention even though their relationship has always been like this, i.e. one of them ( mostly Buffy) saying no upto a point and then giving in.
      But Spike knew that he had crossed a line and made a mistake. People make mistakes. What matters most is that, what they do AFTER that.
      Spike went away, got himself tortured to be the kind of person who would never do something like this again.

    There are two episodes on Buffy that I wanna bring up here now. One is Halloween from season 2 and the other is Tabula Rasa from season 6.
    In Halloween, because of magic, our heroes wrongfully think they are somebody else with no memory or knowledge of who or what they really are, like Xander thinks he's a soldier and Buffy thinks she's an eighteen century girl.
    In Tabula Rasa, because of magic, they just lose all of their memory, they don't even know their names. In both cases, though, they are thrown into one crisis.
    On season two, Buffy is into Angel, and in "Halloween", when her memory is messed up with magic, she barely pays attention to Angel when she sees him. On season six, Buffy is into Spike, and in "Tabula Rasa", when her memory is messed up with magic, she rushes to save Spike once he's attacked, and then the two of them team up to fight the bad guys. See?
    "Stay away from Randy!"

    Honnestly, the attempted rape was bad, but when you realize that the story ii's based on, the woman was the attacker, it put some things in perspectives. Buffy could've been the one to do it, God know she'd feel bad, but she was in a bad enough place for it to happen.
    And hey, he did try to atone for it by getting his soul and suffering the consequences of it. Can't remember Angel trying to atone for the stuff he did as Angelus when he came back.

    • @Victoria-xf8sh
      @Victoria-xf8sh Před rokem

      Buffy kind of did but in a way less graphic way. in “Gone” Spike asks her to leave and she goes down on him without his consent. I wouldn’t put it on par with *that scene* but the whole foundation of their relationship in season 6 was lack of proper boundaries. I still resent the writers for *that scene* being blatantly an attack on the audience.
      Joss hated Spike’s popularity and hated that the audience liked Spuffy. He asked the writers to tell him “the worst thing they’d ever done” and he chose to make a scene based on which writer had the most horrific answer. So one of the writers had tried to force themselves on their ex to try and regain their affection.
      The whole thing including the behind the scenes reasoning was super ICK. Also James and Sarah begged not to do it but were “contractually forced”.. like the actors did NOT give consent, they didn’t have the right to say no.

    • @mayadargeon2172
      @mayadargeon2172 Před rokem

      @@Victoria-xf8sh Oh, I know ! Although, I don't count the first one. If Spike didn't want to, he would've said so, that was meant to be a fun scene. Buffy has done many fucked up shit to Spike really, there's no need to reach for "rape" or even "dubious consent" to say that she was destructive to Spike as much as he was to her and that it just didn't happen in the same way. She COULD've tried, in another one of her breakdown, searching for more conection or even to hurt herself more to "rape" him. Except that really, he would've had let her and would want it, so it wouldn't be rape. He's got ... Intimacy issues, and she's been taking advantage of it as much as he's been taking advantage of hers.
      He's been much more aware of it by season 7 tho, so, that's good. Or bad.
