Sonic Before the Sequel (abbreviated Sonic BTS) is a fan game created by LakeFeperd that serves as a interquel between Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The player goes through numerous zones and alternates between Sonic, who wants to stop Dr. Eggman from launching the Death Egg, and Tails, who tries to keep up with Sonic and eventually teams up with him. During SAGE 2012, an update that included graphical improvements, an original soundtrack, and a bonus boss fight if you reach the good ending, was released.
This series of fan games made by LakeFeperd continued with a sequel, Sonic After the Sequel, and an interquel, Sonic Before the Sequel Aftermath (which formed into a different fan game, Sonic Chrono Adventure).

@@supersonic9236 Any middle sequel with an earlier and a later installment or an installment in a series of works set chronologically between two of its predecessors.
This game's definitely got a bit of history behind it.
The initial release used music from other games, including Sonic games. You can hear a remain from this, where the pre-boss cutscene for the first boss is obviously leading into some Kirby music.
Then, another person offered to compose a new soundtrack for the game, being a music student at university. Did original music for every level in the game, and the game was re-released. The soundtrack got a LOT of praise, even from professionals and Sega themselves! The music guy then got hired to do a major part of the remastered music for the HD Kingdom Hearts releases. Even got to meet Yoko Shikomora (spelling?) herself and got an autographed copy of the game.
This game got a couple sequels, "Sonic Chrono Adventure" and "Sonic After the Sequel", before LakeFepard decided to branch out and make his own IP, "Spark the Electric Jester". He's got a habit of occasionally showing up at SAGE (Sonic Amateur Games Expo) and releasing a demo/game that I suspect is secretly an engine test for his next commercial game. For instance, he released a 3D arcade racing game with an F-Zero type gimmick where gravity is whatever direction all four tires make contact with "ground", resulting in some crazy tracks. His next commercial game after that was "Spark 2 - Fark the Electric Jester" which was a high speed 3D platformer with a lot of sonic-esque level design and physics. I'm convinced his racing game was a practice run on how to do 3D physics for his commercial game.

As others already said, they decided to make the bosses insanely harder for whatever reason.
So play the original After the Sequel instead.

Tails is cool. The special stage looks more fun to play than Sonic 1 and 2 versions. Also the last boss in this video looks like an evil voltorb with claws.
Also LakeFeperd, the creator went on to make his own original game Spark: The Electric Jester and it has a 3D Sequel and a 3rd part coming out soon :)

@@BlueTelevisionGames also spark 1, despite being an original game, it's made with the sonic worlds engine which is intended to be made for fangames lol, someone even made a mod for that where you play the first zone from sonic after the sequel, but since it's spark 1 as spark or maybe fark with i believe even a boss from after the sequel
I played this waaaay back in the day and it's great. Really hope you continue and make this a series!! "After the Sequel" is also amazing.
Before and After the Sequel are both awesome fangames. For something made all the way back in 2012 for BTS and I believe 2013 or 2014 for ATS, this was fantastic. LakeFepard has made some great stuff.
true Sonic BTS, Sonic ATS & Sonic Chrono Adventure were all amazing Sonic Fangames (oh I guess also Sonic BTS Aftermath but that was a demo of Sonic Chrono Adventure). Man I miss when LakeFepard used to make Sonic Fangames

I like that the first boss fight is just Robotnik out for a Sunday drive, which you proceed to ruin for him.

Loving the look of this game, sharp colours and cool music. It truly makes a game if the music fits. I like the rainy effect and Sonic is looking smooth and the boss fight's were so creative. It was a great surprise seeing Yoshi island. This a real cool game esp being made by a fan.

I loved to play this Sonic fangame when I done some lessons in the highschools. :)
I played an older build of Sonic Before the Sequel where there were music from mostly Kirby Super Star.
Also I got the Super Sonic ending. :D
The creator LakeFeperd has his own series for quite a long time now called spark the electric jester, i believe it has technicly 4 games, spark 3 being still a demo (might be wrong but it deffinetly is coming) & a friday night funkin spark vs fark mod & while it is a fnf mod, since it's official it's also a spark the electric jester spin-off game, also spark 1 is my all time favorite game in general

This game's *TEN* years old??? Wow. Sonic fans have been amazing for a while. Using the fuzzies caught me off-guard, and it's a brave move... but then again in 2012 Nintendo wasn't so aggressive about fangames!

I love this game so much I especially like the sonic CD-ish cutscenes
Cutscenes always crash for me on the original but not on the plus version someone else made, even though they are the same exept wide screen & with the sonic after the sequel model for tails
The first zone of this game looks like Sky Sanctuary from Sonic 3 and knuckles which is on the Sonic and Knucles game cartridge.
This is a great-looking fan game! Tails is cool, but I'd really like to see some Sonic Spinball action!

I had to run this game in windows 7 compatibility mode. Maybe that did the trick
As far as i know this game's cutscenes work with flash, so you need a flash player alternative and run the game itself with windows 7 compatibility mode setting(at least it works for me)

@@hammerheadthehedgehog Tried it and have bad news and good news. Good news:game don't crush when started and you can play it, bad news: you won't see cutscenes while playing(edit: at least in dx version, normal version works fine, for some reason).
But! You can run them in "flash" player(they are separate files downloaded with game)

Hi Darby great video as always! Last Show I binged on Netflix was Haven (sort of a supernatural mystery thriller based on stephen king's works) I would choose Flight as a super power UNLESS the super speed is to the extreme shown in both of the live action sonic movie (basically stop time and move at a blur on top of that) and on a parting note: Tails is Cool but... he should #watchoutformybodyrolls
