      One issue with lend lease was that the Soviets used the metric system and had their own sizing for clothing and shoes and what not. Dealing with this meant having a commission set up that would translate the clothing sizes, make sure that if they were bringing over a truck that had inch bolts they'd also send a toolkit with US tools and so on.
      Apparently when they got around to discussing sending over condoms the Soviets claimed that their standard condom was 13" long. The US honored the Soviet specifications but sent them in boxes labeled "US Condoms, Size: Medium".

      @@agentorange153 If it's just the ide that both were Dictators sure .... you are correct in this part - they were one of a kind ... but then all Dictators would be one of a kind. But their political ideologies couldn't be further apart. Idk where the idea that, suddenly in recent years started to circle arround the internet, that claims Hitler was a socialist or even comunist comes from, but it is outright false. Hitler was fanatic oponent of communism an socialism. In Mein Kampf he often proclaimes that Marxism and Socialism are Jewish inventions and therefore evil incarnate. This was also the reason to attack Soviet Union in the first place - The whole reason of Hitler's war was to get rid of Comunism and Jews. That was his Casus Belii if you will. Otherwise it would be stupid move to attack Stalin before he finished his British campain. Or at all. In a way it was, but he attacked Soviets because he was running out of time ... and one of main wargoals was again to destroy comunist.
      It is very interasting stuff. But reading both Mein Kampf as well as Comunist Manifesto it becomes very clear what lies as the base of this ideologies. I know full well people get misled by the naming of NSDAP which includes the word "socialist" in it's title. But it's important to note here to note this: party existed before Hitler joined it, and ... it was based around the idea of "Volksgemeinschaft" - the people's community - where community is meant strictly in meaning of uniting the "pure" (or arian) race as a ruling community. In this way it was understood that it dealt with "social" issues of race. The question of racial purity WAS a social question - as mentioned again in Mein Kampf - this is where the "socialist" part of the naming comes into play. Socialism as used today tho has entirely different meaning - and it's often used to describe a "soft comunism" if you will.

    • @agentorange153
      @agentorange153 Před 4 lety +29

      Actually, as much as Hitler claimed to hate socialism, his ECONOMIC (as opposed to military or social) policies DID include elements of socialism -- an extensive public welfare system, the right for trade unions to collectively bargain with corporations (but without the right to strike), great public works to be built at taxpayer expense, a compulsory labor force to build these, etc., etc. So you CANNOT claim that he was 100% anti-socialist, because he WASN'T!

    • @Member_zero
      @Member_zero Před 4 lety +21

      @@agentorange153 Well even modern day America isn't 100% anti-socialist. One of the best example is the existance of pensions. And ofcourse many projects which are indeed built on "taxpayers expense". This include damage compensations in case of natural disasters etc. But you still cannot claim America is a socialist country. I agree with you - and I also did not state, Hitler was 100% anti-socialist. But his regime wasn't a socialist regime as it is understood today, much less when you look at his rule through historic lense. He also OPOSED stock trade as it was in his mind a "Jewish invention". He favoured production (which is ofcourse anti-capitalist) - but also, what is most important - rule of the strongest (which is close to capitalist in it's core idea).
      One thing must be very clear however! - and I was not, in my previous post (for which I apologise), Hitler was NOT (and I stress NOT) advocate for modern capitalist system! If one would compare it with comunism - sure I could agree there is a common fact in that they both are proposed ALTERNATIVES, but that does not mean they are the same. Nazism and Fashism did not survive till modern times (or failed in obscurity) thanks to the great war - but communism survived. IMO all of these systems are terrible - so let's agree on that I think - but not the same.

    13:45: In short, Stalin decided that the military leadership was plotting against him (it was not, he was just paranoid) so he got all of his leading generals arrested and killed. The NKWD was the secret police and responsible for the arrests and executions carried out in the "Great Terror" period from 1934 to 1937 and later on. Basically you have to chose if you slowly trust the new military leadership (after you killed all your great generals before for no reason) or trust the killers you brought up that terrorize your population on your orders as you are paranoid.
    Stalin must have been a real party crasher.

    Thanks for the walk thru Quill, very helpful. Is there a ratio of civ to mil factories I should attempt to achieve early game? I understand the value of the civ factory but don't want to use up too many slots that I will need for mil factories later in the game.

    • @ap_astrix
      @ap_astrix Před 4 lety +2

      Most people build civs early game and then make military factories. Unless you desperately needs guns and are gunna be attacked/ go to war early you should do civs early game, the mils. Once you conquer territories you will over time/resistance laws will be able to get their factories as well.

    Accidentally clicking Soviet Union might have actually worked out for the best talking about National Focuses, since they actually a really deep political tree to look at
    Really, I love how nicely Focuses can help power up a nation in a way that strengthens its identity. For example, the US political focuses ultimately all revolve around juggling foreign relations and getting out of the Great Depression, and all the while needing to appease Capitol Hill when making any “spicy” decisions, like taking a focus to allow for limited conscription

    Rehabilitated military might refer to Stalin’s purge of the military in 1937, sent a lot of officers to the Gulag and had to call many back once Germany invaded. That might be what it means

    • @m1ndfr34k7
      @m1ndfr34k7 Před 4 lety +3

      your civ factories will be working on the mil factories then other stuff late game for example you will need rocket silos and other stuff and the civ factories being queued up will prevent them from making the other buildings (very rough explanation)

    • @brohvakiindova4452
      @brohvakiindova4452 Před 4 lety +2

      @@m1ndfr34k7 I'd also say pretty self explanatory with more civ factories it's easier to build mil factories or whatever you want later on, the only exception would be if my civ population demand is so high that I'm getting nothing out of the next 2 or so factories

    Rehab military is down to the purge, during initial purge against Trotskyite’s various friends of Stalin tipped him towards believing the military to be a hotbed of radical Trotskyite thought. There was also some jealousy and personal malice from some of Stalin’s henchmen towards certain generals (for example Tukhachevsky was a great armoured warfare theorist who was up there with Patton, Guderian, Hobart etc for deep armour operations, but he annoyed Voroshilov, Stalin’s pal, so he got convicted on false charges and shot). The purge of the military basically eradicated vast swathes of the officer corps, all the expertise, experience, theorists and skilled officers either murdered or packed off to Vorkuta or somewhere equally terrible. It also made the lucky survivors absolutely terrified of the leadership.
    The result of all this is probably obvious, in 4yrs time when the Germans invaded the Red Army was both led by inexperienced officers terrified of mistakes, or senior officers who were not willing to use their initiative in case Stalin had them shot and so the first few months of Barbarossa were a bloody retreat. A few hasty pardons had to be written to bring back condemned or gulaged officers - Rokossovsky, for example, who went on to be one of their greatest generals. Unfortunately the murdered ones, like Tukhachevsky were lost forever.
