  • Our hearts were bursting with Gallesi pride during Sant'Antonio this year, as my cousin Gina Di Pietrantonio & I, were lovingly dressed, by our beautiful cousin, Antonietta Di Pietrantonio, in the traditional costumes of our family's hometown, Gallo Matese, in the Province of Caserta, in Campania, Italy.
For the women, it's about a 2 to 3 hour process to get into the multi-layered full costume, for the men, not as big of a challenge.
We should note, the cameras do not do the costume's justice, as the attention to intricate detail in all the trimmings, the beading & the significance of each article of clothing, need to be seen in person to fully appreciate their elegance.
We were joined in solidarity with our neighboring village Letino, & the beautiful Carmelina Tomasone, wearing that village's traditional costume. The clothes are incredibly heavy & props to Carmelina, for walking the entire ancient cobblestone procession in 6" heels!
To watch the love in Antonietta's face during the entire process, was priceless to me. Dressing Gina in her very own costume, she would have worn with her husband on their anniversary. We both wanted to cry the entire time, it was such an emotional experience.
Thanks to all in Gallo, who welcomed us & thanked us, it's YOU we are grateful for! Can't wait to do it again! Grazie mille! Ci vediamo l'anno prossimo!

Excellent video. Those clothes that Gina wore, my dad told me that they used to wear them to get married 😮

Yes! For the women, added to the traditional costume of Gallo, was that colorful disk pinned to her abdomen. I'm forgetting the exact name of it right now, but that worn on the wedding day :) The cameras do not do these clothes justice. If you could just see how intricate the detail is up close, it gives you a whole new appreciation!!
