Good on you for mentioning to snug up the SMA with a wrench. Using a VNA at 6GHz, I noticed the effect of proper torque very quickly. They actually make/sell 1Nm torque wrenches specifically for SMA connectors.
Excellent point…. SMA torque wrenches are a bit pricey for something only used very occasionally, but absolutely worth it.
I have seen guys take small open ended wrenches and crank down on SMA fittings on some extremely expensive gear (telemetry transmitters / tiny duplexers / portable handheld P25 radios, etc. It was truly frightening.
As JB mentioned, this meter is far less than the cost of a single attenuator in a lab or critical grade comm shop.
In fact, you could buy THOUSANDS of them for less than the cost of a quality VNA and hundreds of them for the cost of a good spectrum analyzer. It seems like a no-brainer to drone enthusiasts working with RF .

One quick point… with less accurate test gear, sometimes the best way to utilize such equipment is to use it as a “a to b” comparator.
A great too to check multiple brand or type jumper cables against each other or to compare multiple connectors to each other, etc..
Though this tool seems to be pretty accurate , especially considering the price.

This is where ham radio experience comes in handy.
The difference is they call it a SWR meter or a standing wave ratio meter and you hook it up the same way, with a jumper.
Or you use the field strength meter with an antenna (JB's finger knuckle test) to measure the direction and field strength of the broadcast wave.
Need one of these after one of the tiny trainer races I was at. Video was crap, turned out my vtx was barely broadcasting at 20mw.
Thank you for making this video, I've had a ImmersionRC RF Power Meter V2 for a very long time but not got round to investigating how to use it correctly.
I refuse to believe anyone who got one of those figured out how to use it properly by the usual "play around with it" method.
I've probably grabbed it a total of 4 times since it was released...never got any reading that made sense for the scenario I was testing...and put it back in the box for another 6 months.
This video is what I've been waiting for apparently.

11:38 but this adapter changes connector type, you can screw on a pigtail, but not an antenna. For longevity you need different adapter.
yeah you should have definitely cooled that rush tank solo with a fan, it was at 1W (blue led)

Can you use this with directional antenna to find a downed drone?
Does the battery charge through the usb on yours? Orqa sent me a replacement because my first one didn’t charge and the replacement doesn’t charge through the usb either.
I have to take the battery out to charge it.

Hey Joshua I just finished a fpv build and on my tx16s I noticed that after calibrating my controller and setting endpoints, the 4 main channels only go to +/-98%. Any ideas on what could be causing that?
Adjust outputs in model settings in your radio till you get 1000min and 2000max in betaflight

Test the DJI fpv with the ham hack
I use a communication analyzer at work it's about 50K and it stops at 1 GHz LOL I can't use it for the hobby it's ridiculous
And on the subject i would go far as to say perhaps even if it could as soon as you put the antenna on a conductive carbon fiber frame you get Pim harmonics in all kinds of stupid stuff that make it pointless.
Edit: if you use a 10db it'll be an order of magnitude less so all you have to do is shift the decimal point over you don't have to do math every 3db is a half every 10 DB is an order of magnitude one ten hundred thousand
Does this even work with a digital VTX?
It measures power, so yes it works in that sense. But for systems like DJI and Walksnail, that have 2-way communication and dynamic output power, it may not be as useful to measure the power using this device (or any other).

No... Of course your the authority .. but was not this device covered at least 2x before. I recall you being excited tat there back in stock at PRC...and discussing the value vs accuracy.
I don't think I ever made a detailed tutorial like this. I previously tested the accuracy, but that was v1 of the meter and this is v2, and anyway it's always good to double check every three or five years I suppose.
How many times have you done this vid like 3 or 4 times. Running out of content.
I made a version of this video in 2018, when the power meter first came out. Five years later, I updated it to reflect the latest firmware and hardware, and to do a better job of tutorializing how it works, with details missing from the 2018 video. Not sure why you think I've made the same vid 4 times. Glad you've been watching long enough to remember the original 2018 video though. Thank you!
I guess you never watched the older vids (like 5 years ago) because this is an actual TUTORIAL where the others just demonstrated its features.

Dont waste your time or money on this thing its crap.
Get a nano vna instead.
Nano VNA h4 only goes up to 1.5 GHz. Also, a VNA doesn't measure power. Different tools for different needs.
