I actually was surprised he knew epel at first, but I think it's a defense mechanism of Malleus cause he knows they're dream hopping and can't have them waking anyone up by popping in and being like "who are you?!" Like with Lilia... Or maybe rook's just built different. Could be built different. Also, ever since I first learned he was in Savannahclaw before I've been hoping for some past rook pics. My eyes are not disappointed!
I think its because Vil wasnt there in NRC (the main reason why rook transferred to Pomefiore) he stayed in Savanaclaw even in his 3rd year?

It could be that depending on the person and on what time the dream is taking place, memories and timeline get fuzzy. Remember Sebeks dream? It was immediatly for Lilia's party and he acknoledge us as the Ramshackle dorm.( He recognized us as the inferior students) In Lilia's case, we were back hundreds of years ago, so it made sense that in his dream he couldn't recognise us. (Also it was more of a memory, so to prevent waking up he only remmembered people of that time) Epel remembered the events of the first year a bit because he recognized us, but didn't think of an explanation of how he got ripped. In Rook's dream, different events happened in the past so in his current time he doesn't have a motive to be in Pomefiore but remembers everyone and maybe credits it to his stalker nature(without Vil he can stalk more people in the school).
Rook is just built different and is dependent on the timeline the dream is set to. He never meets Vil so he never transferred to Pomefiore. In the current timeline of his dream, he is in third year and therefore Epel would have already enrolled in NRC at that time (also proven by his room being a one-person room).
On the other hand in Vil's dream where he never attend NRC and pursue his career, he doesn't even know the gang completely.
I'm pretty sure he recognizes us because he's a 3rd year in Savannaclaw instead of Pomefiore. Since Vil isn't in the school he doesn't have a reason to transfer dorms. This isn't 1st year Rook, this is Savanaclaw Rook that never made it to Pomefiore.

Maybe..?? I think the dream was altered to a point where Rook didn't know Vil personally hence that's why he's in Savanaclaw instead of Pomefiore. Also one of the top comments are theories about how *Rook does still remember about Epel* so go read that rq, don't wanna take that theory fr (also because I can't think up of my own theory of why Rook remembers lol)

In one of the latest chapters they said that the happiest moments comes after great sadness (like the importance of Lilia's dream). Rook's saddest moments being Vil's rivalry with Neige, the poisoning attempt and overblot back in Book 5. If he dreams of Neige and Vil being good friends in the first place all of those sad events wouldn't happen. Correct me if I'm wrong :'))

I believe the implication is that Rook is a third year in his dream, rather than a first year. So he stayed in Savanaclaw throughout his entire schooling in his dream hence why he knows of Epel.
If Vil found out about this he might overblot again

Delusional, absolutely delusional rook. Not that i want to spoil myself since i haven't even gotten anywhere close to ch 7 or 8 but i feel like most of everyone's dreams are either made up or their past memories though even the past memories feel like somewhat twisted into something else? Like, with rook. It's true he was in savannaclaw but neige and vil being friends seems so unreal as well as vil attending rsa. But...what if it was actually real? That vil and neige used to be friends but they broke up because of some conflicts? I don't think we're given any backstory of vil and neige together and vil attending rsa which is a heroic type school. Though neige is pretty friendly with everyone but i feel like he's more friendly with vil? I haven't started ch 5 yet so I'm not sure. It's just a little theory of mine but the dream could be twisted according to it's owner.
Yep definitely, it's past memories + twisted/altered into...whatever this is for the Pomefiore trio (if i really think about it, it's actually almost everyone minus Lilia LMAO) and yes Neige is friendly to Vil in canon. Neige calls him Vil-kun (JP) or Vi (EN) but I'm not sure if he's *more* friendly though because Neige is just always a nice guy most of the time (legit never seen him be angry before, even in the events that he's in)
