I love Sufjan but this video is hilarious to me. The ridiculousness of the outfits and the choreography and the fact that it was on tv and jimmy looks like he has no idea what the hell just happened at the end is just too much
After listening to Carrie and Lowell for almost one month, which is now my favorite album ever, I enjoy watching this. It shows that Suftan's work is not concentrated only in sad moments of his life. this performance showed a colorful side of him.
I absolutely love this. At first I was made slightly uncomfortable with all the dancing in the beginning, but then as I kept watching I just fell back in love with this artist. This performance, to me, is a great example of an artist who is perfectly authentic. Yes, the costumes and funny choreography is a tad over the top and borderline childish but if everybody will just take a minute and close their eyes, take their focus off of what they thinking they're seeing, and just listen… I think you'll hear some classic Sufjan Stevens musicality in there-- and it's brilliant. The drum part is so lovely, the bass line is sick, and the trombone solos were rockin' my socks off. It's even ironic how the lyrics tie into the performance. Everything about this performance is intentional, light-hearted, and well-executed. There are countless performances that are all lights/cameras/entertainment and zero substance. This guy, and his band, ARE substance.
If you ever get the opportunity to see him perform just go. I've been lucky enough to see him with the Clogs, the National, and during the "Too Much" phase.
This man is a genius, the true definition of an Artist, And this is also how all the modern music should be, not only complex in it's composition and settings but also visual. This performance is beautiful in so many ways, the decorations, costumes, the fact they learned to dance... Beautiful!. Maybe my only complain would be that he's still using his solo name, I mean yeah he does probably most of the work but I definitely think some people on that stage deserves also some recognition. Other than that, this is just perfect.
Unless you were there for the Age of Adz tour, you may never know what it’s like to watch a vision and music coalesce in the most beautiful way possible. The show was lilting, apocalyptic, an absolute exploration of the modern soul brought by an artist at the absolute top of his game. I was there. I had chills. May God have mercy on our souls.
man for fallon watchers who hadn't heard of sufjan before this was probably one crazy first impression

i love his dorky dance moves what a precious boy
this wouldn't be a very good first impression for people who have never heard Sufjan
How can he afford to pay all those people on an indie rock salary?
Are you kidding? This is the first time I have seen him. He. Is. Adorable. Loved the song and the performance. Going to look up more right now.
I hope he does some whacky shit like this again. Carrie and Lowell was great, but Age of Adz remains my favorite of his work.

sufjan looks like a jojo character here
this is the same guy who plays songs about jesus on the banjo

This is what was for seen in parodies of the future, and now that it’s here it slaps really hard.
It's flawless! this amazing artist never stays the same and if we don't get it, it's not his problem!

I don't want to like this but holy crap, how can you not?
This 2010 tour was beyond amazing. Killer drumming, crazy dancing, incredible songs. Just tops on every level. Maybe my favorite concert of all time.
