I found a preset called "Trap Drums" And "Trap" in maschine on Ozone 9 and it beats any of my mastering chains almost everytime. We live in amazing times and what matters is the final sound and feel. If I can get that in seconds with Ozone then I am very happy and will continue to support. One thing that would be great as far as referencing, would be to have a smaller floatable button that you can press to hear the reference without going to master channel and opening ozone to press the reference button.

I discovered the learning resources that Izotope provides for mixing and mastering before I discovered their plugins as I was mixing my own material. I wanted to be as objective as allowable by educating myself and they converted me into a supporter of their products in the process. Like other people here have said, you can hire a mastering engineer and in many cases you should, but I feel this is targeted for those who want to learn the skill of mastering which is a lifelong process. The video was quick which can give you the impression that these things are quick to learn. These skills take years to learn! After many, many different songs! The beauty of Izotope and their products is they put complex subjects into a digestable format. But you still have to analyze, assess and apply as deemed necessary/appropriate. It would also serve you well to have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of acoustics/sound.

Good on iZotope for mentioning loudness normalization standards! Thank you! I wish all the squashed, brickwalled prog metal I used to listen to from the late 90s to 2000s had producers with these modern changes in attitudes towards loudness and mastering. Also, so many remasters of other classic albums have been ruined by brickwalling when the music never called for it in the first place. Hopefully one day they "get with the program" and correct their mistakes.

Huge fan of Izotope products. Huge! I don't want to imagine not having them. In fact, I've got almost all their major plugins. The one thing, that I feel, Ozone is missing, is what Plugin Alliance's Metric AB does..and that is sectional comparison. The one problem with automated AI mastering, is that it uses one static setting for the whole song. You have to automate for different sections. That is where I find Metric AB shines. It let's me check each section against different songs. I then use different instances of Ozone to cross fade between the sections. Usually, I only need two instances. One for the hook and one for the rest. Definitely don't do this on the same track you're mixing because you'll run out of CPU quickly. Do this on a mixdown bounce. I think these guys tend to forget to mention this because they do it so much, that they assume we're all doing that. I find that a lot of noobs master the same arrangement they're mixing. No no. At least bounce it down to stems if you still want to make mixing decisions, but ideally you want to mix it down to a single stereo track. This is all subjective. I just thought the comments of using those sample crushing compressors like Camel Crusher and Sausage Fattener were funny. I mean... work with what you have . No shame in that. Heck...if that was all I had...no one else would know, right?! Peace.

Streaky has mixed for ed Sheeran and etc.. but he says that the reason why mastering to -9lufs sounds better is because if the crushing sound it gives. Its not about loudness, it's about the sound it gives. So -14lufs will never sound the same as -9lufs, it will never have that "finished familiar" sound we're used to. Maybe for classical music or etc.. but not pop music or dance music. He says absolutely no professional has ever asked him for a -14lufs master. The pro's, the big labels and etc only want -9 or etc.

Very important notice to 1:10 = streaming services will only lower the LUFS of your tracks to -12 - -16 LUFS if the user has loudness normalisation on. A lot of people have this off though (as it should be) so they will play the music at the level you provided. If you master a loud genre for instance electronic stuff that usually has LUFS around -6 (or even louder), your track will go down if it’s played after one of those tracks, if it’s mastered at -14 LUFS and the user has loudness normalisation off.
