Fascinating video. Thanks Jordan for taking us along❣️I remember when I was 6 yrs old my uncle had a book on Billy the Kid in his library. The first words I remember reading from the page was about his piercing gray eyes. That’s when my uncle snatched the book from me and said I was too young to be reading that book. Lol. I wonder if it was written by Pat Garrett. It was the same color as the book shown on the video. We all lived in the same house at the time. Fond memories still. My uncle wanted me to be a singer. He was a pretty cool guy but my father was very strict in his ways and we ended up moving to our own house. I always wondered what would have happened if my uncle had more of a say in regards to my career path. Still I was able to find a soulmate for life at 18 yrs old and still we’re together having enjoyed life enough to have no regrets & paying it forward whenever we can with others along the way. Thanks for sharing your life Jordan with all of us. ❤️🙏🏻

Billy the Kid had blue eyes, not gray. If you don't get the color of the eyes correct how can anyone believe the rest of the story? It's documented that he had blue eyes.

Jordan the reason for the John Wayne photo and business card is because John made a movie called Chisum. Where Wayne played John Tunstill and Pete Duel played Billy the Kid. I believe that Wayne did filming at the location. That is a great museum. It must have been fun to see Billy the Kids rifle and handguns up close and personal. This is sure a treat to see your wonderful Vlogs!
@@huntinghistory You obviously have not been to the museum or otherwise learned the history of the artifacts, such as those that remained in the Maxwell family until fairly recently. As to the grave, I hope you are not suggesting that it is somewhere other than in the Post Cemetery in the Bosque Redondo, old Fort Sumner.
Presidents, kings, queens, most are forgotten but he'll never be forgotten and his name is a household name on an international scale. It is so rare for that to happen, he'd be amazed.

Plus, I loved your video of Jackie Gleason’s grave because, my Dad was one of Uncle Jackie’s best friends & traveled the world with him but mostly, spent a lot of time with him, here in Florida… However, I’m going to be going to Jackie’s grave, after seeing it here on your channel, to bring Uncle Jackie flowers from my Dad, who passed two months before Jackie & from our family… 😊 Also, I am related to Billy the Kid so, I enjoyed this video & it was great to hear about the history, of a infamous & notorious long distance cousin!!! LOL… But, I will not be traveling to go visit his grave, sadly… I never knew him of course because, a century & generations of the past are bygones years… Except, I just knew he was related by my Mother’s side of the family & that he was considered to be always a very bad boy!!! LOL… And, that he was born & originally was from NY, like the rest of our entire family is, since the 1820’s… LOL… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

First time I was ever in Tucumcari I was moving from Louisville to Albuquerque and stopped at McDonalds. After ordering they asked me whether I wanted red chillies or green chillies with that and I said what? I later learned a lot about chillies and came to love them.

General Lew Wallace, who was Governor of the New Mexico Territory during the Lincoln County wars, had quite a history himself; he had a flamboyant, if contentious, career during the civil war and served at the trial of President Lincoln's conspirators, then later at the trial of Henry Wirz , Commander of the infamous Confederate Andersonville Prison. As Governor, Wallace met with and made a deal with Billy the Kid to testify regarding the Lincoln County wars in exchange for a full pardon. Billy complied but a power-hungry District Attorney revoked the deal and slapped the Kid in jail immediately following his courtroom testimony. The Kid escaped and thus began his final crime spree in 1879. But perhaps General Lew Wallace's greatest claim to fame was as an author. In 1880 he wrote/published the novel BEN HUR: A TALE OF THE CHRIST which in 1899 became a smash traveling theatrical extravaganza and then in 1907 was adapted for the silver screen as the first of five movie versions of Wallace's tale. Two of those films became cinema classics: Fred Niblo's 1925 silent version starring Ramon Navarro and Cecil B. DeMille's 1959 blockbuster starring Charlton Heston. Interestingly, even though BEN HUR is hailed as the most influential religious novel of the 20th-century [it was even blessed by Pope Leo XIII], Wallace himself never personally joined a church and the original idea for his novel came to Wallace from an agnostic! BTW: despite the official account of Billy's demise, I believe he wasn't killed in 1881 and instead that Garrett gunned down an innocent man. As opposed to the 3 dozen plus named witnesses to the Kid's body during the public wake and funeral, which an estimated 150-200 people who attended. This from people who were actually there, rather than a crazy old man who made absurd claims 70 years later.
Another great video Jordan. Speaking of Civil War General, Governor Lew Wallace that wrote Ben Hur. Crawfordsville Indiana is where Wallace lived and built a magnificent little brick study building. It is a very interesting structure. It is filled with MANY mementos from the Middle East and Turkey from when he served as Ambassador there. Manys fez's, paintings, and other artifacts. One of the first buildings with central heating and inside toilet for his writing comfort in winter, although he wrote most of Ben Hur in Sante Fe. It is a cozy spot that feels so homey and inviting, it's the kind of place you want to stay in for a while. Also, Crawfordsville still has a Rotating Jail to see. The cell block was circular and the whole floor ROTATED around an axis and spun the individual cells to the single door. Very weird and I guarantee you have never seen it before. It would be a good side trip on your next visit to Ohio.

Bonnie and Clyde were kids thruout their spree, only 23 and 25 when they died. Sid and Nancy were only 21 and 20 when they died. Im 56 and have made no impression whatsoever on the world. It's like a magical thing with some people and it really cant be predicted wholl be remembered.
The assumption that the Kid died at 21 comes almost exclusively from Pat Garrett's book, much of which was ghost written by Ash Upson, who actually did know a very young Billy and the Kid's mother in Silver City. But conveniently the month and day given in the book is a match for Upson's own, except for the birth year given as 1859. It's likely fabricated. According to those who knew the Kid well, both as a child and during the LC War, he was more likely born between 1860 and 1862, so something under 21 when he died.
I went to lincoln with my parents when they first moved to Colorado Springs Colorado as they were history buffs it was same street as it always was we saw a house with a stagecoach and an old telephone an old west woman dress a coffe grinder, we could touch everything it was exciting ,my parents have since died and I moved to Albuquerque ,I've been back a few times taken my British cousins and on to Carlsbad caverns and mexico..we had a blast ,I'm off to lincoln and ft Sumner this time I hope to go in the gift shop and buy a statue of Billy for my old west front room ,my house is like a museum, I enjoy all I see ,America is interesting, I love it here but too hot at the moment ,in fact it's frightening we always have been in New mexico but I would caution people about coming to see Billy the kid country with the heat not much restaurants on the way...take care..
I was there back in the 70's I guess it was. Also visited Lincoln for a couple of hours. I always assumed that Billy was buried between Charlie and Tom. I hope to get back there for one last visit.

My mom dated Billy thekids great great great grandson..david bonney..he had billys gun framed on his wall and believe me he was a relative..he was a millionaire as well with inheritance $$..he had tons of interesting memoribilia..he kept the relation facts quiet tho..he shared alot with me n my mom ..true relative
Loved this vlog, as the Billy the Kid story fascinates me. The museum was amazing, too. The fact that he is behind in d bars in his final resting place is so interesting. I wonder if that is intentional due to the fact that he was in crime or for security? The chais and the gun are so cool to see. Wonder how they obtained them
Great show!! Go to Cimarron,NM. The St. JAMES Hotel is amazing. The Hotel rooms are upstairs where many Old West persons stayed. The saloon downstairs has the ceiling full of gun shot holes. The song "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins mentions Texas Red. I'm not sure it's the same one, though. In the song he was killed by an Arizona Ranger, not Billy the Kid. Lew Wallace, the governor of New Mexico, is famous for writing the novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ".

Billy The Kid and The O.K Corral are on my bucket lists. Ever since seeing Young Guns as a child I've always had a fascination with Billy.
August 1966 4 of us took a 3 day pass from Amarillo AFB and spent the Night at Tucumcari; LOTS of Museums; good food; and great weekend!
The scene where the bounty hunter shows up while they're having supper in the first Young Guns, is still half standing.

@@capjim5903 Dream on. You've been reading too much hearsay from books with zero primary documents, no footnoted sources and no actual record of any kind to support the claims. As opposed to the 3 dozen plus named witnesses to the Kid's body during the public wake and funeral, which an estimated 150-200 people who attended. This from people who were actually there, rather than a crazy old man who made absurd claims 70 years later.

Another great video Jordan. Speaking of Civil War General, Governor Lew Wallace that wrote Ben Hur. Crawfordsville Indiana is where Wallace lived and built a magnificent little brick study building. It is a very interesting structure. It is filled with MANY mementos from the Middle East and Turkey from when he served as Ambassador there. Manys fez's, paintings, and other artifacts. One of the first buildings with central heating and inside toilet for his writing comfort in winter, although he wrote most of Ben Hur in Sante Fe. It is a cozy spot that feels so homey and inviting, it's the kind of place you want to stay in for a while. Also, Crawfordsville still has a Rotating Jail to see. The cell block was circular and the whole floor ROTATED around an axis and spun the individual cells to the single door. Very weird and I guarantee you have never seen it before. It would be a good side trip on your next visit to Ohio.
I just stumbled on Lew Wallace history myself recently, What an interesting life and so much history he was a part of.
The letters that Billy the Kid wrote to the Governor, in his own hand, are in the Wallace papers collection. Just fyi.

19! He was only 19?!! (or 21...) Holy cow. I had no idea he was quite that young. Your well-researched vlogs are not just entertaining, they're historically educational.
Bonnie and Clyde were kids thruout their spree, only 23 and 25 when they died. Sid and Nancy were only 21 and 20 when they died. Im 56 and have made no impression whatsoever on the world. It's like a magical thing with some people and it really cant be predicted wholl be remembered.
The assumption that the Kid died at 21 comes almost exclusively from Pat Garrett's book, much of which was ghost written by Ash Upson, who actually did know a very young Billy and the Kid's mother in Silver City. But conveniently the month and day given in the book is a match for Upson's own, except for the birth year given as 1859. It's likely fabricated. According to those who knew the Kid well, both as a child and during the LC War, he was more likely born between 1860 and 1862, so something under 21 when he died.
I went to lincoln with my parents when they first moved to Colorado Springs Colorado as they were history buffs it was same street as it always was we saw a house with a stagecoach and an old telephone an old west woman dress a coffe grinder, we could touch everything it was exciting ,my parents have since died and I moved to Albuquerque ,I've been back a few times taken my British cousins and on to Carlsbad caverns and mexico..we had a blast ,I'm off to lincoln and ft Sumner this time I hope to go in the gift shop and buy a statue of Billy for my old west front room ,my house is like a museum, I enjoy all I see ,America is interesting, I love it here but too hot at the moment ,in fact it's frightening we always have been in New mexico but I would caution people about coming to see Billy the kid country with the heat not much restaurants on the way...take care..

I was there back in the 70's I guess it was. Also visited Lincoln for a couple of hours. I always assumed that Billy was buried between Charlie and Tom.
I hope to get back there for one last visit.

My mom dated Billy thekids great great great grandson..david bonney..he had billys gun framed on his wall and believe me he was a relative..he was a millionaire as well with inheritance $$..he had tons of interesting memoribilia..he kept the relation facts quiet tho..he shared alot with me n my mom ..true relative

Loved this vlog, as the Billy the Kid story fascinates me. The museum was amazing, too. The fact that he is behind in d bars in his final resting place is so interesting. I wonder if that is intentional due to the fact that he was in crime or for security? The chais and the gun are so cool to see. Wonder how they obtained them

The St. JAMES Hotel is amazing.
The Hotel rooms are upstairs where many Old West persons stayed. The saloon downstairs has the ceiling full of gun shot holes. Many card games, alcohol

The song "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins mentions Texas Red. I'm not sure it's the same one, though. In the song he was killed by an Arizona Ranger, not Billy the Kid. Lew Wallace, the governor of New Mexico, is famous for writing the novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ".
