    This was great! I bought an irrigation system on Amazon because my friend has one. I was intimidated to assemble it but I feel confident that I will be able to do it. Thank you. You speak clearly and explain the system quite well!

      Thank you!! I promise it gets easier once you start bc it’s very repetitive!

    Absolutely the best explanation of drip irritation on You Tube. You explained this so well!! Thank you!!!

      Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! Sometimes I wonder if I’m talking too much when I’m trying to explain something.

    This was great for a lot of first timers. I was able to find different emitters for the Proven Winners kit atHome Depot. They are universal 1/4 inch tubing, and the ones I got were the ones that spray like an umbrella so convenient.

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Před rokem +1

      I love how universal all the pieces are so you can mix and match! I’m definitely going to start customizing mine more in the future.

    Drip irrigation is the best thing! I've installed hundreds of feet of irrigation lines, valves and micro sprinkler heads. Working on putting everything on timers for consistent watering. So good to see you going in the same direction! So many benefits and time savings

      @@ChicagoGardener exactly. You know how quickly grow bags and containers dry out so having everything water automatically is THE answer for sure.

    You make me feel like I can actually do this! We are going on vacation in September and I don't want to ask the housesitter to water all my pots. I may try this even though it's late in the season.....

    I have carpathen set up in my backyard thanks to you! But I'm watching this bc at some point I am doing my front yard also. I guess I need to try wiggling the tubing on? I have scrawny hands and had to use a lighter to get the small tubing all the way down. Seeing you do it so easily makes me want to try again.

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Před rokem

      Leaving the small tubing in the sun right before using it helps and you can bowl some water and soak the ends of the tube if it is hard to get on!

    Thank you for posting this; very helpful and informative. I'll be setting up an irrigation system for the first time and don't know much about them yet. Orbit and Rain Bird are couple of brands I've come across at Lowe's and Home Depot. Did you ever consider or have any opinion about them? I like that I'd be able to just drive over to the store and get parts the same day. On the other hand, I definitely value quality over price. Thanks,

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I have the orbit timer and love it! It is more expensive than other timers I’ve used but being able to control and monitor it from my phone has been worth it.

    I want to set up a system but my hose outlet is on the back of my house and it is at least 30 feet to the area where my pots are at. I thought I could just set it up and home the hose to the system when i want to water. But after seeing this i want a timer. Any ideas?

  • @Brianp150H
    @Brianp150H Před měsícem

    I currently have my system set up to run for two minutes which seems about right for having water drip out of the bottom of pots. I see videos though where they say to use a slow drip that may take 10 minutes to fill the pot. Does it matter which method is used or is “better” for the plants?

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Před měsícem +1

      I’ve heard that the drip is “better” but I had both a system with these small sprinklers and a system with drip for four years and never noticed a difference in my plants.

  • @MelissaKarabinisKolom-bh3dp

    This is my first summer with drip irrigation on my Chicago roof! I’m assuming you have to install a new system every summer, or can you reuse some components?

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Před rokem

      I don’t! My front system has been in place for three years and the only thing I do is either replace anything that is broken or expand it to new pots if needed. I bring in the timers, but leave the drip tube out over winter (not sure if that’s best practice though 😆)

    • @ChicagoGardener
