      Most Chinese national players have to be a good sportsman. Remember poor Wang Chuqin, got suspended for 1/2 a year for throwing his racket.

      @@carlswindelliv2701 it happened that Ma Lin may argue whether it's an edge ball or not. Wang would just give the point to him even though the umpire says otherwise. Both are great players though.

    Unusual among taller players, he could dominate shorter players w/o having to move back a lot. Eg. it was Tan Ruiwu in the 2008 Olympics that was getting forced back.

    I wish he would play professional forever, so entertaining to watch and in general a first class sportsman. I think he's a key figure for chinese table tennis, coming from penholder to shakehand style. It's hard to imagine players like Ma Long and Fan Zhendong if there was no Wang Liquin. In one word: Legend

    most people think Ma Long has best forehand and biggest champion but honestly wang liqin was better champion, true winner and more solid and cool player.
    Wang's era was more challenging and Ma Long was really vulnerable under stress
    according to me, Wang Liqin was best and most stable player i've ever seen after JOWaldner

    Wang liqin is the Chinese player who was consistent after Lui Gioliang and Kong linrg ewui. He was the one who save everything for China in 2000 to 2010

    Best forehand in the business. His backhand was awesome too of course, but his forehand.....goodness me. It's not just the power and speed.....it's the consistency and precise placement. He may well be my joint favourite, along with Waldner

    Wang was really good for more than 10 years. Winning 3 WTTC Singles. What can we ask for from a TT player? Wang and Ma Lin were actually the equal but Wang peaked during WTTC seasons and I think that was how he won against Ma Lin at the WTTC tournaments.

    Love how Waldner took him apart at the 1997 Japan open. That is what happens when your opponent won't let you play how you want to play. Wang trained so hard he deserves all the accolades givin to him.

      honestly i think that if Ma Long and Wang Liqin could play against each other in their prime; WL would win mostly especially in big matches
      Wang Liqin was really very solid and consistent player and great performance under tension.
      10 years between them
      But Ma Long also became more solid in recent years (his technique was always perfect but his play was not so consistent until 2015)

      Well it is believed that ma long learnt fh from liqin. I don't know if this is true but no one has a better fh than wlq. If ma long played wlq in prime I think wlq would win it because he was more athletic n fit n flexible.

      ryu have good forehnad because of the speed glue, ma long have a strong forehand, xu xin is inconsistent.

      Imo in terms of power, it's wang liqin. When it comes to speed, ryu seung min. Ma long has the best decision making and xu xin has versatility.

    His forehand is often very outstretched which contradicts what coaches advise students not to do.
    I also notice he uses the openent's spin to deliver returns that send the ball in a direction other than where you'd expect the ball to be going. Very rapid anticipation and reflexes.
    Ball often dips short of the net with precision and speed. It is clear why Wang is multiple world champion.

      "Average" is probably the wrong word. He couldn't do the kind of back-hand rally like many of his European contemporaries. But I guess you are right. Shouldn't expect him to have a backhand like that of Maze, Primorac or Kreanga. :)

      I guess it's part of his style. Wouldn't be as dominant with a more balanced play. At this level it's better to have a super strong shot than being average everywhere. And it's beautiful to watch (like ma lin). Ovtcharov may have a fantastic backhand, he still looks like he's a weird retarded guy when playing !

    Beautiful table tennis is almost dead. Now it's all about power, staying close to the table, and hitting as hard as possible from both sides. It's like women table tennis, only with more strength. Terrible.
