Europe is the best single track paradise

  • Europe has the best natural single tracks and the best mountain bike riding in the world. Prove me wrong! We don't only have great climates and great terrain for it. We also have thousands of years of trading and agriculture giving us a vast network of trails linking up ancient places. Bold statement, I know. But probably not far from the truth and it's my greatest hope to learn about new riding destinations through people trying to prove me wrong! ;)
    A 4-day all mountain ride in the Queyras (French Alps). This is truely world class mountain bike / VTT terrain. Adventure biking for those who like to ride "all mountain" and "trail".
    Day 4 finished with the finger licking good descent from Col de Furfande back to Chateau Queyras and eventually my car parked in Abriès.
    You will find the exact route in my Komoot collections. www.komoot.com/user/518381604510
    Keep it safe and enjoy!

      Wish I had the time, money and fitness to do these kind of trips. Going to Serfaus this summer and hopefully I can get a day of mountain riding in it.
      I’ll have to start with dayrides in Belgium first.

    I would have happily joined you on that ride. But sadly I'm about 900 miles/1450km and an English Channel away.
    Happily I do have loads of singletrack just a few minutes ride from house, though nothing quite so long as an Alpine descent.

      What part of the UK do you often ride in? I currently live relatively close to Calais, but the channel is a massive hurdle indeed. I'm usually around the mountains in summer so if you're ever across the pond feel free to reach out.

      @@ALLMOUNTAINMTB - I live in Sheffield/Peak District. Sheffield is the greenest city in Europe, which a huge part of why I live here.
      But I also often ride the beautiful Gower Peninsula where I hail from originally.

    (ben jij Nederlands?) I lived three years in Canada.... and I did not even go to the Rockies... Not saying Europe is bad, absolutely not, your video rocks and the trail you ride is super, but... Canada is simply on a different level. Their trailbuilding is different, their natural trails are different, the soil is a frikkin gamechanger, their rock, the community... and world class trails all over, usually multiple options within an hour to two hours' drive. Instead of having to get into a car and drive through half of France or Germany for it. they have 30 years on us. And actually, I like mountainbiking on what we would call 'hills' of 500 -800 heightmeters. Who needs to suffer for 1600 heightmeters for their sport? I am not 20 anymore..

    Splendid video and route, thanks for sharing! Also real happy to see some Europe / Alps content ! Seems like you get by in French and your name I guess German as well, any plans on doing similar multi day track routes in the Swiss alps ?

      Thank you, happy to hear that! Where are you from? I'm curious about your perspective. My name is indeed German and I get by in French and German enough to move through those alpine regions without too much issues. Switzerland is on the to do for sure

      @ALLMOUNTAINMTB  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for taking a moment to comment. It's on my chest. A gopro in wide angle mode. I find this gives the most natural point of view. I need to put more effort into filming with settings that allow for more motion blur in the peripheral view to give a natural sense of speed. If everything is sharp and if the field of view is too narrow it comes across as much slower

    What an amazing day on the bike Dieter. Discovered your channel because of your bit on Austria, but now you got me hooked on your riding videos as well 😉 When have you been there last year? Perhaps we've been there at the same time ... or almost . We stayed a few days at a camp site near Lac de Serre-Ponçon last year. Sadly (especially when I see your video now) I "only" had my roadbike with me, so I literally road past your route when I did my tour over the Col d'Izoard. While that also was fantastic, it's no comparison to your ride! But I'll pick you up on your call for riding buddies 😁 Whenever you're in Stubaital, drop me a note. Maybe we find some time to do a ride together when I'm over there visiting my family!

    I enjoyed the scenery for sure. Maybe concentrate more on the trail in front, and worry less about the exposure to the side. No different than standard single track by the look of it. I know, though, past injury def affects present riding. Been there!

      True points. Although sometimes the consequence isn't a silly roll down a hill. But a potentially very suboptimal end to life 😅

    Don’t worry about riding alone, it makes you safe and resourceful. I personally prefer solitude and absolute freedom when riding.

    Maybe the most, but not really the best. Hiking and biking are 2 very different activities, so a good hiking trail is not also a good biking trail.I would agree for some European areas which know how to build biking trails, like Finale Ligure in Italy.
    But see places like Squamish or Bellingham for how good MTB trails look like, built from scratch with biking in mind.
    And btw, what you are riding is not "top grade stuff", maybe just for you...

    • @ALLMOUNTAINMTB
      @ALLMOUNTAINMTB  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, these are indeed natural trails, not shaped bike park. It's a very different approach to using a bike for outdoor sport 😉

    • @dit4963
      @dit4963 Před měsícem

      @@ALLMOUNTAINMTB Biking trail doesn't mean just "shaped bike park". There is a category called singletrails, and that is not the same thing as natural or hiking trails. They are purposely build biking singletrails, found usually in trail centers.

    • @ALLMOUNTAINMTB
      @ALLMOUNTAINMTB  Před měsícem +1

      @@dit4963 I understand what you mean. Unfortunately such settings don't interest me at all since they are artificial. North America has a lot of very cool things. But it has nothing near the massive historical trail network in places like the European Alps. There were simply fewer people to make them.
