This film isn't well known enough because it came out in 1939 which has been credited as the greatest year in cinematic history. So many phenomenal films came out in that year that beau geste didnt receive the recognition throughout time that it should have. Sergeant Markoff is one of the scariest most sadistic and great villains in film history. he makes Sgt. Barnes from Platoon look like a joke

trailers were seldom seen by audiences digitally in the 30's. there was no television or ways to watch film outside theaters. no point in wasting money on a trailer nobody will see. Gary cooper's name on the billboard is a way more effective trailer
t was eight and sutting in the Campus theater but as the horses trotted by/ I remember the poor blind beggar sitting cross legged against the wall saying in a calm voice . Alms alms for the love of Allah. I didn't know what an alm was, that he was passing out.

The first version I watched as a kid, later watched the 1926 version, loved both.
