Pro Racer's Take: 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE

- We’ve long held a soft spot for the high-performing Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE. True, even though the Camaro is right at home in the Stop Light Grand Prix with a 0-60 time of just 4.1 seconds, it might not exactly be the first, or even second thing, that tends to pop into people’s minds when they think about the cars they would like to drive to the limit around a challenging road course. But that’s because they’ve never climbed aboard the 1 LE.
Even here at Automobile, quite some time had passed since we last had a chance to help a Camaro SS 1LE stretch its considerable legs. So we rang up our resident driver extraordinaire and told him Chevy was shipping one to him and his satellite outpost at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Can’t beat this car for the money.
The SS1LE with regular summer tires can go H2H with the Shelby GT350 and BMW M2 Comp. Both with Cup track tires. Shows that the Camaro has a superior chassis " Alpha"🏆👍
Only the Shelby R comes with the Cup 2 tires. However the ss 1le will run similar times with a non r Shelby and M2 Comp.
@@bill5935 the '19-'20 GT350 was upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3s aren't "regular" summer tires by any means, they're barely behind Cup 2s in terms of performance.

I used to think mustang was cheap for the performance however Chevy introduced the six gen ss 1le, zl1, and zl1 1le, which changed my mind completely. Now i feel like besides a base model GT, rest of the mustangs are way overpriced for their performance. Especially the new Mach1. It is maybe on par with the SS 1le, but to get one, you need to spend a zl1 money for it. For the GT500, it’s not as fast around the track as a ZL1 1LE, depending on the straights, but you gotta spend a future C8 ZO6 money to get one. Its just crazy.
This review has no BS and is honest, the title is spot on. These are all the reasons I bought my red 2019 1LE and I love it. One more reason to own this car is that the 1LE comes with magnetic shock absorbers!
I don't have a 1LE, but have the Super Sport with manual trans and have been loving this car since 2017 and 57k miles of DD. I got mine with the black 5 spoke rims, Dual Mode exhaust, Magnaride suspension.✊😁
I can’t believe he forgot to mention about the magnetic ride control!
Also missed the E diff, which is a huge part of the package.
The best part is the upgraded suspension with the 1le. That’s the HUGE MAIN thing
MORE MORE MORE I love it no BS on track review...Mustang GT, GT350, GS, Z06, GTR, M3, M4, ZL1E, Supra , GT500 just to name a few.
I wonder how a PP1 Mustang GT would compare to this 1LE... ?

Just got one in the satin grey... What a treat!... LOVE!!! the 1LE features... especially the feel of the steering & suspension! and the car is not boring looking! Test drove other comparable cars and this was the choice. CHEVROLET... Merica!

Just bought my new 2020 1SS 1LE last week! Mine is the RED HOT color just like this one and I absolutely love it!
@Goontrader2 No regrets! So far just oil changes! n fuel. The car is fun to drive! I’d like to get a few upgrades the 1SS does not come with.. better rear speakers, carbon dash, suede accents available thru GM .. but Love the Car in the 1LE!

Got me one! Satin steel metallic, best driving experience!!!! The back roads and track is where this belongs. Ive tried to kick it loose many times and it does but it takes a lot of work, very capable car!

Love most everything about the Camaro SS, and disagree with folks who knock the interior. What I struggle with is the DLO, wish the designers would look back and try and get some inspiration from the First generation Camaro DLO. Fix the DLO and then this would be the best smile per mile for your $.

When Andy ran the GT350 (non R), he set a 2:15.1. Is the 0.5 sec offset due to tires/ car/ track conditions? Any thoughts?
Either way this was a commendable time and the engine sounds oh so sweet. Really hoping my '23 SS 1LE order gets picked up 🤞.

I had a ‘17 SS 1LE 6 speed. One of the best cars I’ve ever driven or owned. I have driven a 6spd M2 and that’s the closest. Highly recommend it. Go test drive and you’ll fall in love
I did. Went to drive a 18' 2SS 1LE with 6k miles on my way to look at a 18' ZL1 1LE. Both one owner clean and correct. I planned to drive the car 3 seasons, knew in my heart the ZLE really wasn't practical to drive the amount I would be driving. As im getting ready to leave Hendrick Chevrolet calls and tells me they just got a 1LE traded in if I wanted to come look. I drove the 1LE and couldn't stop smiling (while trying to act like I wasnt too impressed with it)😂 What a beautifully engineered car! All the way around.

I think that’s a 2SS, a 1SS runs closer to $45K.
i paid 41k +tax for my 2020 1SS 1LE brand new off showroom floor!
That’s an incredible deal especially compared to the current prices. I paid 31 but used with 10,000 miles. Incredible cars, I plan on keeping mine forever.

@@StrongerThanEver84 Voss chevrolet Centerville, oh. It stickered for almost 47k. They told me I wouldnt have gotten it for that price if it hadn't been for the covid. This past summer, they offered me 50k to buy it back off of me!
Ordered a 2ss 1le at msrp a month ago. Manual transmission with pdr.
Since everyone wants to know 2020 gt350 went 2:15.1 on cup2 tires and 2019 350r went 2:13.6 on better cup2s and wider. Crazy the 1le is as fast on less tire and really nothing crazy like 350 and 350r. IMO similar tires the 1le is faster.
There are some track rats that swear by the F1's as being just as fast and more forgiving. Either way, both are excellent track focused vehicles.
@@saleen367 they wear well but Ive raced with them and had trouble staying on pace. Would be awesome if it was possible for mags and CZcams channels to test using the same tire. Not realistic but some tires are great in cold weather and some hot like re71r vs rival s 1.5. I currently use the Rivals but on cooler days wish I had re71r. Soo many variables makes a true comparison difficult. Luckily new cars are so good hard to go wrong with either. Love the gt350 cars and Camaro SS

Having driven both cars back to back (I used to own a GT350), I'll take the 1LE over the GT-350 hands down. Camaro has better build quality and it's a better "street" car, and that' where I spend 100% of my drive time, on the street.
Might be looking a a coupe or convertible

10k you can get the best of aftermarket for suspensionn, down force, brakes, wheels, sheats and have a few thousand left over. This thing needs a diet 3700 lbs in a manual wtf. 3350 should be a target weight in a DCT.
Mr_Pauls so you’re saying someone should buy a car and immediately drop 10k into it, losing warranty in a few places just to be incrementally faster than someone who can walk into a dealer and come out with an easy monthly payment? Sounds about right.

Mr_Pauls first you said 10k, now you say 7k? Still do people just have that much to drop instantly on mods? Is it not easier to just stop in a dealer and finance your way into an awesome vehicle that, let’s be honest, will rarely if ever see a track?
