I once heard young Steve recorded the hit record with session musicians because his band couldn't learn in time before another band went into studio as the song was originally from the US. A classic,timeless hit.
You're right, there was a race to beat the USA version. But it didn't fly with just a band. They brought in a full orchestra. THEN it was recorded.

Such a powerful song with powerful, soulful vocals from such a young guy. I really don't understand why Steve Ellis is not as a big name as Rod Stewart and other singers. I don't know the music industry, but I guess that talent without proper representation doesn't get you far.
