    Finally a tutorial where the structure is properly explained….Being someone who got into guitar because of Iron Maiden, I’m so glad I found this channel!

    One of Adrian's signatures is using a note on the high e as a pedal tone and then alternating between that and notes hammered on/pulled off on the B string getting that open B in there too. He does it all the time - Aces High, Wasted Years, The Wicker Man probably many more. Its very very cool.

    Great tutorial and breakdown. I very seldom like to say I have a favorite Maiden song or album because so much of what I listen to comes down to the mood I’m in, but Ace’s High is one of those tracks I can listen to over and over again. It’s energy is unmatched and it captures the rush of adrenaline a RAF Spitfire pilot had dueling German ME 109 pilot to the death. Absolutely brilliant song! Again nice breakdown.
    I always enjoy when you do these. Even though I don’t play, it gives me a deeper appreciation for the skill and work that goes into the craft! 🤘

Once I started to really study their guitar styles more closely, I realized just how much depth and how many subtleties there were to be uncovered. Thank you so much for this, your tutorials are a huge help and the way you present your way of teaching is really easy to learn whilst developing ear training and transcription skills. Your detail is immaculate and so precise and I love how you go over the scales and backing track so I would be able to improvise an adrian sounding solo over it if I wanted. I really feel I have found a hidden gem on CZcams and you deserve way more attention and views- I haven't seen anyone else put so much accuracy dedicated to a band like you have and keep it up- it's improving me as a player. Is there any chance you could maybe go over Alexander The Great as I am struggling to transcribe adrians solo when it goes into 7/8(the start of the instrumental section) and it's a great song and musically interesting. Sorry for the long essay 😂

  • @AdventuresofJoeandSmokinGoats

    I agree: That's genius. Funny how ever since Killers he's been my favorite guitarist of any band, any genre....and I'm a drummer. When they toured the U.S. on the Killers tour I waited all day in line to be one of the first through the gate and I grabbed up that first row spot . Adrian was in front of me by about 5 feet all night and it was like a dream. Between songs I yelled " Alright Adrian!", he looked up smiled and nodded at me. I have actually lost count of all the times I've seen them since then ( I'd have to look through all my ticket stubs). Needless to say I wasn't a BIG fan when he was absent and those albums are definitely the worst of Maiden's discography. When Adrian and Bruce returned it was not just the band's rebirth but mine as a loving and dedicated fan once again. It may seem weird that I think they've been the best version of themselves ever since BNW all the way to SEN. In my humble opinion the line-up is their best their playing is their best and their songwriting is their best. Cheers Nico, UP THE IRONS!.

      @LicksOfTheBeast  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Mark, thank you so much! I am really glad to hear my videos could be helpful to a fellow fan and guitar player. Stay tuned for a lot more in the future.
      For tabs, honestly I just don't have the time to add them to my videos right now - if I were to strat creating tabs for everything I'd end up taking twice as long between videos. To compensate, I try to break the licks and riffs down as much as possible into digestible bits, play them slowly and with close ups so that they're easy to follow... And as a bonus you work on your ear training this way so that you'll find it easier to learn things by ear yourself in the future ☺️
      I might eventually add tabs in the future but for now I hope you'll keep watching and that it'll continue to be interesting and helpful! Cheers 🤜🤛

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  Před 3 lety +4

      Hey James, thanks for watching and for your comment! At the moment, writing up tabs is not something I'm going to implement. For one thing, it would take me a lot longer to put together these videos if I also had to create and add tablature. But aside from that, I really think it ultimately hurts you as a musician. Having the solos broken down into smaller sections, played slowly, with close ups and with CZcams allowing you to slow it down even more... I think everything you need is already there. I strongly suggest using these tutorials as a way to learn AND also train your ears at the same time so that you can eventually learn anything you want on your own! If you're ever stuck on a part and need help figuring out which notes I'm playing, you can always ask and I'll be happy to help! Cheers!!

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  Před 3 lety +1

      Glad to hear I could help with that!! 😃 For learning scales, I would say start getting familiar with the major and natural minor scale in terms of how they sound and feel and how they're structured. Listen for where the half steps are... That always helps! And practice them with different patterns all over the neck. I think that's a good start. Then for more detail about how the different scales and modes sound and how to understand them better, I highly recommend you check out Rick Beato's videos on the various modes. He knows so much and so in-depth that he is able to explain it exceptionally well! Good luck!!

    Hi Nicko! What is your amp? Is it essential to get the Iron Maiden sound? \m/

    • @LicksOfTheBeast
      @LicksOfTheBeast  Před 3 lety +2

      For these videos I just use the Bias FX 2 plugin. Actually, everything I use is listed in the description for each video 😊 I think getting these songs to sound more like Maiden is less a question of gear and much more a question of how you play. There are many small subtleties to watch for. Just take picking for exams: The kind of picking, where on the string you pick or how you angle your pick on certain parts all make a big difference in how things sound. Then there are little things like ghost notes, muted strums, the fingering used etc etc etc. I am working on an idea for a video that covers techniques and details within techniques specifically for Maiden. Be on the lookout for that in the months to come. Thank you so much for watching and for your question. Cheers! 🤘
