But the game has been in the spotlight for some info that was revealed with what some fans would call really bad news for players but what also happened alongside that and the HUGE 15gb patch/update for the game, is a list of 14 mind-blowing things that well… most people did not even know this game would include but the devs actually added it.. Bethesda took a stand when they forced folks to confront the pronoun issue and the associated baggage. A mod to remove it is just an option that wouldnt affect those that want to be bop/beep/boops while allowing those that want their chosen sex to speak for them to live in a world more congruent with their belief. Why force anyone towards some ideology when everyone can be served?
They are under the totalitarian belief that they alone are 100% correct and all science and history must be forcibly bent to their will. Ironically, it's more like a religious thing. All the things that lefties complained about with religion, they're doing with the pronoun stuff. Asking people to choose pronouns is like insisting they take part in a religious or cult tradition. If you couldn't start the game without doing an e-Reading from Scientology, it'd be about the same difference. The scientific evidence for both things is about the same. That's why, in Canada, in protest, a man who coached women power lifters, none of whom ever had a chance to hold the records anymore since a man was holding all the records, this guy just walked up... bald, bearded... signed as a woman, and broke the other guy's records in protest for the women. To be fair to logic. The mod allows for removal of diversity from the game. Nexus is simplying banning that tool. If "The mod does not affect the lives of people with pronouns." Then the optional setting of pronouns in the game does not affect anyone either. If you use this logic, would it be morally correct to allow a mod that allowed only white people to be made in the game, or changed all people of color in the game to white? I'm sure no one would have an issue if Nexus banned a mod that promoted racism. Simply put, if you are so triggered over one option setting in a game that is taking steps to include another group of people that live on this planet, then easily do not support anymore of that studios games in the future. Telling people they shouldn't be upset by optional removal is the same as being told don't be upset by optional selection.

So the complaint is they don't want pronouns period and that pronouns shouldn't be in any dialogue of the game either when involving interaction with the player. So this group of people is complaining that they're diversity is being removed, via banning of the mod, because they don't want the diversity options in the game to begin with? Does this mean these people identify as nothing and don't want any pronoun usage? Or are they just that triggered over the options that they can't simply pick what they want from the drop down menu? I'm just trying to understand. I assume that even if the pronoun selection was only he/him and she/her, would people still be this upset that those pronouns are there anyway? Most games literally will choose your pronouns based on the sex of the character you have chosen anyway without giving you an option, so it's auto chosen. But this game allows you to pick pronouns so people can pick gender on top of sex and that seems to make people so angry simply because they have an additional option. Even though it's a forced option such as picking an eye color, and it still doesn't affect the player in any way except to make one extra click. I'm not a spokes person for Nexus by any means. But the banned mod essentially made the character non-binary by removing the pronoun selection. Which should just be included into game selection, which is probably possible in a future update if enough people request it. My question being, if they made non-binary and option, would that mean all these people would no longer be upset over the banned mod? Or do they not understand what non-binary is, and will become even more aggitated if that option was included into the game? Even though that's what they would be if the banned mod was still allowed.
@@charliey02 The problem is that the whole pronoun fluid thing affects everyone by automatically just being in the game whether someone wants it there or not. Some just don't even want that to be a consideration in their game which is fair if that's what they want.
A mod that allows for removal of pronouns, literally does not affect the people that enjoy pronoun fluidity.. because they don't even need to download it and they can just enjoy the base game as it is.. where as the people that don't enjoy pronoun fluidity don't get a choice at all from the Nexus site.. that is crux of the issue. It's all about choice and the lack of it.
The folks at Nexus are lying when they say they are not taking sides in the pronoun war. They allow mods that add pronouns to games that don't have them but delete and ban mods that remove them, they have already taken a side.

You don’t have to respect anybody. It’s just polite to refer to people the way they want.
You'll play with them anyways. In every game you ever play and in real life. Pronounces are literally what you are. If you're a guy then you're referred to as one. Those are your pronouns. He, him, guy, bruh... If someone thinks you're a girl or maybe even online where they can't see you, you'll correct them and say "im a guy" that's you telling them your pronouns with less detail. Nobody is trying to change you nor do they care about what's in your pants and neither should you. Just respect people the way they respect you.
If someone born with a vagina tells you, after you call them ma'am, "im a guy" then say "oh, sorry sir" and move on with your life. It didn't break your jaw to say it and it had no impact on your life nor will it change your future. Whether you agree with how they see themselves is irrelevant because it's them and their life, not you and yours.
It's no different than correcting yourself when a young boy with overly feminine features gets mistaken for a girl. My nephew when he was between 4 and around 9 had longish blonde hair, blue eyes with long eye lashes and a pretty face. Easily mistaken as a girl and it happened to him numerous times over the years. The only giveaway was his deepish and raspy voice. He's still a good looking boy at 12 but his hair is short with a more current hair style and he's growing into his features. He hate when he gets mislabeled and he's surprisingly respectful to how others label themselves.

Letting people who don't want a particular mod to not get that mod.

In regards to banning the pronoun mod, it really was crossing the line into taking a stance. They are enforcing the use of pronouns in their game. Saying the idea in that mod is unacceptable to the degree it has to be banned. How is that not taking a side? If you don't want to get involved, you do nothing. Not get involved and do something.
Forcing people to pretend like stating our pronouns is necessary is like forcing people to take part in a cult religious belief. It's much like if, to start the game, you had to take communion or pray on a prayer mat facing Mecca, or do an e-reading. This isn't about tolerance and inclusion, adults have the right to pretend to be whatever they want... but they want to force everyone else to pretend as well, and they want to force your daughter onto a rugby field to get hospitalized by a guy, or into a shower on a swim team with a guy, or to lose her scholarship to a guy. Do you feel safe with some 6'3", pierced up, tatted dude in the bathroom with your wife? Getting women pregnant at a woman's prison? (that stuff has happened)

Personally if I wanted such a thing, I would write to Bethesda and ask them to include a non-binary option that would remove the pronoun selection from the character creator so you wouldn't even have to see it. Nexus is a private company and can do as they wish as well. For good or ill. These examples you give are horrible, and yes certain things should not happen. If Bethesda wants to put pronouns in the game, that's fine, it's their game to make. I'm not even sure that it's political for them to do so. Their stance might simply be, "We're trying to appeal to all audiences, and there's a lot of people that would find this appealing."
Banning a mod to remove them seems a bit ridiculous by the same line of reasoning. Why not let players alter their own experience of the game to fit what they want? Mods are about making the game more appealing to the individual gamer, why not let them do that?
Banning the mod to remove it is tantamount to saying, "No, you MUST see the pronouns even if you don't want to."

Modding have always been a matter of choice. People who decides to use that mod won't affect the experience of others who doesn't want to use it. That's just the way they want to play the game. This won't stop me from using Nexus though. I love mods, and many games have their mods there.

For example, no test exists that can tell the difference between a 'real trans person' and someone who is faking for personal gain, or mentally ill, or just a confused kid being bombarded with this stuff in school. I am on XBOX and had 3 random lockups after the patch yesterday where two of them I had to close out and restart the game. As i forgot to save for the first one I lost about 2 hours of gameplay. The third lockup happened when I was actually trying to manually save. After the third time I turned the system off. If their priorities are to patch things that have very little consequences for a single player game, vendors really, and they cannot fix real gameplay type issues than players will be moving on to other games. A common issue I have now doing the Ranger Bounties you pick up in The Rock is the rescuing the hostage. I am always having at least 2 NPC's stuck in between walls where I have to actually leave the ship and go back to get them to spawn. Just a big waste of time.

I wouldn’t care about the pronouns so much, if the writers didn’t go so far out of their way to use them, that the conversations feel unnatural. The fact that Nexus removed the mod, is making me rethink my donations and my premium membership; I just took my card number out. I’ve downloaded most of the mods I need; so, I’ll be just fine using the “slow download” option from now on.

I want a mod that changes all the npc genders to their opposite. It would be far closer to reality to see more male warriors and engineers and females mostly in important support roles like scientists. Bethesda alas has gone hard on 'the future is female' meme. Starfield is that future world.

If players want to mod the game in a way that removes pronouns, they should be able to do that. Should Bethesda remove the pronouns entirely, no. It should be a matter of choice, so that players can enjoy their game to the fullest. If a player chooses the remove them, pro pronoun people should not have a protest, due to the fact that it would not effect their game in the slightest. Some people just do not want these issues forced down their gullets.

Starfield's got all these CZcamsrs gone crazy.
A few important points. The game doesn't force you to choose a pronoun, it defaults to the traditional ones and you have to actively choose to change that. Second, the mod itself is a political statement. Third, Nexus has every right to remove a mod for any reason because it's a private site.
There are plenty of mods making political statements on Nexus, such as the ones during the BLM riots, this is a bad argument you are making and contrary to the tradition that was upheld on the nexus by a large portion of the community being that you are free to mod your game the way you like it since no one is forcing you to dl any mod and if you dont like it then dont use it. Now they are actively deciding whos political statements are ok and whos are not and voila, they now have a shi**orm
Unfortunately for Nexus managers there are plenty of other sites that will host that mod. At the end of the day Nexus gets an L and we all know it.
This discussion around pronouns in Starfield is ridiculous and anyone arguing either against their inclusion in the game or for the mod that removes them is arguing from a bad faith POV, for the following reasons:
1. The character creation section is based on two models, male and female. As there is no nudity/sex in the game, there are no options for tweaking the physical characteristics of your character's sex, so it is a purely binary choice.
2. Whichever model you choose, the pronoun choice will DEFAULT to that option, so if you have selected the male model then the pronouns will be he/him and vice versa.
3. The only reason to ever even touch the pronoun option is if you specifically want your character's pronoun to be different from their physical appearance. This is a CHOICE, not something that is forced on anyone in any way.
4. This may be extremely obvious to most people, but apparently not everyone, so it needs to be said - pronouns are NECESSARY for language to work, as otherwise people referring to you in the third person are unable to do so, and guess what? At multiple points in the game two or more NPCs will talk to each other ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER and the rules of language dictate use of a pronoun in that circumstance.
5. Even then, Bethesda have gone out of their way to only have your character's pronouns come up occasionally. Vasco has been programmed with hundreds of actual names that he will say (an impressive feat in its own right) and many NPCs will refer to you in non-pronoun terms, such as "Rook", "Deputy", "Captain" etc. Only on a handful of occasions will any NPC refer to your character as "he" or "she".
If you are trying to mod the game to remove this option, you are not "playing it your way" or any rubbish like that. You are saying that you are so offended by other people having this CHOICE available to them - that doesn't affect you, your character or your ability to play the game in any way - that you feel compelled to completely delete it from the game. That is a position of bigotry, plain and simple,

I just don't get what it matters either way. Everyone says the pronouns don't matter, just play the game. So someone removes them, and now all of a sudden they do matter and you better not remove them... its pretty stupid to care about them being there, its also stupid to care if someone has a mod to remove them.

Ignoring the pronoun option and saying that the pronouns are purely optional is only sweeping the problem under the rug. It will get much worse in the future. Just look at microtransactions and how it was normalized.

When you remove something like that mod and then say "we are diverse and inclusive" it means you aren't. By taking that stance you have chosen your dog in that fight.
If they really were what they claimed then they should be removing all the nude mods from their website because its "sexist." They wont though because it makes a large majority of their revenue and downloads. They aren't being inclusive, instead they're hypocrites.
It's a political statement just as much as your "toxic comments" line is. Calling out insanity isn't toxic. If reality is offensive to you feel free to ignore it, but don't try to impose your ideology and sickness on the rest of us. If diversity and inclusion are important then allow a diversity of thought and inclusion of different beliefs.
Nexus doesn't want to "take sides in the culture war" and is standing for "diversity"... so they, by their actions, reveal that the "Diversity" they're standing for is only from one side of "the culture war." It certainly isn't diversity of thought or diversity of opinion.
Removing the "chosen pronoun" choice in the start of the game would be people removing illogical use of human language. It has no effect one way or the other on gameplay. IF your "chosen pronoun" had an effect, then removing said choice would have far reaching, in game consequences. But then...
"Pronoun choice" could NOT have any effect on someone's game anyway. We're playing a 1st person game (whether in 1st or 3rd person view). WE will only hear what is addressed TO us. When I speak to someone I use their name, or 2nd personal pronouns like "You, Yours": "Hi, Jane - I found this coat; is it yours?" I'd not use "she, her, hers", nor "he, his, him". I'd certainly never use "they or them" for a singular person - those are plural pronouns. You only ever use these 3rd person pronouns when the person you're talking ABOUT is either not in the room with you, or not in your conversation. Ergo, the use of pronouns in this context is nothing to do with that 3rd person.
Hardly going to have much chance to overhear such a thing in a Bethesda Game, really. Or any game that I know of. Such instances of such use in your presence would be few and far between. Not encountered any such instance that I remember in Starfield. So what harm would there be in removing this annoyance from the Character Creation? It's already "progressive enough" with "body types" rather than "choose your sex".

On the topic of pronouns. I am 52 years old. For my entire life one of the most potent and anger inducing ways to insult a person was to deliberately misgender them. The topic has taken on a new title but this is not a new issue. At the core of this issue is the question: "Do I have the right to express hate?" And make no mistake, removing via mod the option for the player to choose their pronouns is a form of expressing hate.
Concerning a person's right to express hatred. Here in the united state the first amendment to the constitution of the united states guarantees the right of expression. This was included so that no one could be jailed or face judicial consequence over the expression of any political idea. I am not advocating that we abandon this ideal. It is a core founding principle that we rely upon in our daily lives. But I do advocate that each of us take up that right ourselves and give voice to the idea that the expression of hate is wrong. That hatred violates human nature. That those who would foment it spread be made not prisoners behind bars. But rather that they be made into pariah. I suggest that we take up with vervent tenacity the rejection of hate. That we, the real majority, do drown out hatred with with our protestations against such insidiously malicious arguments.
A comment on this page asked the question why can't I modify my own game in such a way so as to remove this? And the answer to that is, yours is not the only PC in existence. Many people share computing device. Once this is realized, it is easy to see how such a mod could be used as a targeted way of expressing hatred toward others who utilize that hardware.
One of the most potent tools in our war on hate is the idea of providing no safe space for the expression of hate. If we allow ourselves to listen to the expressions of hate and do nothing. We are tacitly giving our approval and permission for such speech to grow and flourish.

The wages of hate are the suffering of those who are hated and the suffering of those who hate. The first step in solving any problem is knowing that it exists. And I promise you that hatred is a problem for the one who hates. I advocate the phrase "end hatred now" Not as a call to arms, but rather as an invitation to look into our own hearts. To ask ourselves if hatred has taken root there. I cannot advise you on how to pull that particular weed. It is a very person thing. I know that I still struggle to end a hatred of mine, of a particular person who did end my only siblings life. Who in his hatred, denied her appropriate first aid and did watch as she drowned in her own bedroom from a blood clot that has lodged in her lungs. A simple heimlich maneuver could have expelled the fluid that was building up in her lungs. Giving her time to await the arrival of paramedics. But this is a tangent. suffice it to say that I know and understand that this personal hatred of mine brings me a great deal of suffering.
Let us all endeavor to win this war on hatred and end hatred now. And give hate no safe space in which to grow.

From what ive seen, about 90% of the authority figures in the game are female or black. Everybody seems to be gay or bi. Im waiting for that awkward conversation where the character my character is married to, reveals that she is trans. So why are people worried about pronouns?

I definitely don't agree with banning the mod, people should be able to mod their single player games to their hearts content. But i definitely dont understand what all the uproar against the pronouns was for, i mean games have had various character customization options regarding how the character is portrayed for a long time, i mean in saints row you could wear whatever you want and have different voices regardless of presentation, in the old MK games you could do the same, in cyberpunk you could slap on a hotdog if you so feel like it, in a few of the newer AC games, they switch from he/she allot (granted thats probably more so a bug), in almost all rpg games you can damn near sleep with whoever you want, aliens included (commander shepherd style). So why all the outrage against the one little tiny part of the CC where you choose he/she/they. Makes no sense to me.
