    Bravo, Maestro Muti! I was a regular 'extra' violist with the Philharmonia 1978-80 and was inspired by his genius... "2 persons in 1"... exactly, Maestro! Great to see Gordon (1st oboe) and Ann (cellist) are still there! Great friends and musicians. Hello, you guys, from Mexico!
    Barbara Chasson - now-retired as violist

    Ricardo is a great conductor. The Ravena (Road of Friendship) Concert was held in Nairobi's Uhuru Park and the maestro was outstanding. His orchestra's rendition of the Kenya National Anthem was astonishing. He revealed to us Kenyans that our national anthem is a very beautiful song. I always suspected that otherwise why would the Pokomo use its original version as a lullaby.

    Thank you for this lovely clip and delighted to see Gordon Hunt who I was very lucky to study oboe with at university, although I went on to be singer professionally. It is very good to have played in an orchestra.

    I saw Philharmonia Orchestra and Maestro Muti live at Bela Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest in March 2007... the played a Mozart symphony at the beginning, then Liszt : Lés Preludes, and finally, Symphony "Pathetique" by Tsaikovsky :) it was such a great concert :)

    Before he took over the great Philadelphia Orchestra, he was director of the finest English orchestra, the Philharmonia of London. Now he is director of the greatest American orchestra, the Chicago Symphony.

      I would not so unequivocally state that the Chicago Symphony is America's greatest.
      For most of its history that honor belongs to the Philadelphia Orchestra

    @aweitzer1 they're playing the last movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 ("Eroica"); they're playing the opening of the first movment at the very beginning of the video.

    I love "big time" Beethoven that Riccardo Muti gives us here. The modern trend to weaken the music with period bands and vastly reduced musicians has IMO destroyed the power of this music. Who cares about so-called authenticity? Musicologists mainly and I agree with Thomas Beecham about them - "People you know all about music but can't hear it!" - Priceless!.

    • @AndreyRubtsovRU
      @AndreyRubtsovRU Před 8 lety +1

      I care about so-called authenticity. As well as many other people. I bet Harnoncourt's recording being listened to 10, 100 times more now than Beecham's obsolete ones.

      I'm sure you're right, after all recordings by Beecham are very old now, are seldom heard and lack modern technology - it's the old story - I know what I like and I like what I know. BTW old recordings or not, performances by great artists are never obsolete!
