Let me know what other types of restaurants you'd like me to feature!

♥ Where do you live? - Just outside of Toronto
♥ Where do you find mushroom broth powder? - Asian grocery stores have it. I show what the packaging looks like in this video: • Vegan Asian Grocery Ha...
♥ What's up with your skin? - I have eczema, and atopic dermatitis on my hands. I share what I use on my skin in my Favourites videos (it changes from month to month so watch those to stay up to date)
♥ Is CZcams your full time job? - No, I have a day job where I work in marketing :)
♥ What does your logo mean? Why isn't your logo using the Vietnamese flag? - Actually I use the South Vietnam flag because it represents Viet Kieu (Vietnamese immigrants after the fall of Saigon), my parents were both boat refugees before immigrating to Canada. My logo combines two parts of my identity: Maple leaf because I'm Canadian, and the South Vietnam flag because I'm Vietnamese :)

Let me know if you want to see more vegan restaurants! I kiiiind of want to do a vegan ice cream tour of Toronto so I can eat a buttload of ice cream XD
The "pay what you can" model at a fine-dining restaurant is so awesome! Great video. :)
I felt the same way about Awai! The food was amazing, the dessert was ehh and I will definitely be back when I have another occasion to celebrate.
ALL of the restaurants! I really like the format of the video! Would definitely love to see more, even though I'm not from Toronto or even Canada. Don't worry, I'm bookmarking these spots for any possible future food vacations!
Why did I watch this while hungry???
Actually, I think it's a great idea to market plant based restaurants to omnivores. Because vegans will find them anyway - whether it's happycow, a friend's recommendation, etc. And sometimes omnivores are scared of the vegan label. So not stating that is a great way to secretly make omnivores eat more plant based and teach them to appreaciate that kind of food haha
I think it's great that omnivores are interested in plant-based dining, but I found it really interesting because none of the chefs are vegan, or ethically motivated to cook plant-based, it's mostly a marketing schtick haha. Like I'm happy with the result, and intrigued by the process.
Ah, I see! Where I live (Vilnius, Lithuania) we only have one plant-based fine dining restaurant and the chef there is also not vegan. I've had the chance to talk to him for a bit and he said basically it was a challenge for him to cook plant-based, that's why he took the job. But, ever since he started working there, he has slowly been eating less meat himself which is cool!
I've heard that cooking plant-based is a great challenge for chefs! That's so cool you have a plant-based restaurant in Vilnius and that the chef has been reducing his animal consumption as a result. What's the name of the restaurant?
The restaurant is called ALIVE :)
Definitely would love a video on omni restaurants with great vegan options! Also one on pizza spots with vegan options!
This felt like watching an awesome food documentary. You describe the dishes so well and I love the cinematography 😍
How about a selection of culture specific vegan restaurants like One Love, Ethiopia Vegan Restaurant, Ital Vital. Or the best vegan bakeries/cafes?
I love that Awai is so unconventional, I need to go soon!
Dying to try Awai! Great video!
great vid! i've been to planta but not the other two so I must try soon. I would recommend Live Organic Food Bar on Dupont Street! lovely little gem with an amazing menu, daily specials, and beautiful back patio.
I really like King's Cafe (chinese vegan/Vegetarian restaurant) in Kensington market. I ate dinner there a few days ago and the bbq pork on white rice was earth-shakingly scrumptious!!!!!! Hopefully you have tried it or will in your future! King's Cafe also sells a wide assortment of Asian groceries, frozen mock meat, TVP, and vegan mooncakes which I happily purchased because I really like eating mooncakes!!! Best wishes!
yay great series!
awai - btw how to determine how much to pay? seems stressful.
Great video!
This is great. We're in Toronto and looking to try more vegan restaurants
Absolutely. And the service at Bent is horrendous. I once went to his restaurant in NY and the food was so awful. We thought it was because he wasn't there but then he came out into the dining room!!! I spend more money at Planta than perhaps is wise 😂 because I do love to go there. Going Friday for my birthday!!!🎂 PS if you haven't had their cookies, you need to do that YESTERDAY
I miss fressen so much. The rest are pretty great tho--we go to woodlot at least once every couple of months :)
Lisa, have you done a follow up to this video? What are your NEW favorite fine dining spots?
Great video! I had never heard of Awai and am excited to try it out! It's very hard to find vegan fine dining!!! I usually end up at omni restos. With a single vegan option 😡 I love Woodlot and like Planta, although it's pretty casual.
Yeah and the single vegan option is usually pasta with red sauce =/ Womp womp. Yeah they are more casual than awai is, but definitely a place to enjoy some fancier food! Susur Lee's restaurants also always have a vegan option, but I just found out that he would take his servers' tips to pay for any mistakes or customer complaints =O So eff that noise.
I love Woodlot! c:
And JP
Great vlog, the only restaurant I already knew of is Planta, going to check out the other 2 places. I am not a vegan....yet :)
Unfortunately Awai is no longer open, but Osteria Du, Gia, and my fave: Soos (Fat Choi is their vegan menu) are there now!! And Rosalinda is also v aesthetic and tasty.
Mm I want to go over to Toronto just for this
This is great! I never know where to go when I visit Toronto.
Now you know! There are TONS of vegan restaurants in Toronto, there are so many more delicious spots!!
BTW, were you at the Vegan Fest TO? I could have sworn I was standing next to you... she has your voice! lol
Haha yeah I was there all day! You should have said something! Although I was kind of in cognito haha, I was wearing sunglasses and a hat because #SunProtection
Haha! I didn't see you recording so I figured, she's doing her life... leave her be. lol Anyway... it was still a pleasure to hear you. :)
Have you ever tried Raw Aura in Port Credit? Some menu items do offer nut free options
I've had it a couple times! I'm a little sensitive to raw zucchini too so it limits my options a bit haha. The last time I was there i had the cooked miso soup and it was really good!
Maybe feature hidden gems in Toronto or cheap vegan eats? My fave for Chinese food is buddhas vegetarian on Dundas.
Ashley Lagleva I love Buddha's vegetarian! Have you tried the veg/vegan pho restaurant Saigon Lotus? It's nearby and also awesome
adciz yes! Saigon lotus is great and vital life vegan is beside it too!
Hi, i'm Viet too, but i'm not vegan. However, i'd like to support vegan!
Have you tried Dai Bi Chay in Mississauga? The service sucks but the food is good and cheap too.
Yeah! I even did a video on it: czcams.com/video/gRLQPIa3Zso/video.html
Cool! Sorry I missed it - new subscriber =)
Wow beautiful vegan food! I'll be in Montreal 2nd week of September heard they have a lot of vegan places?
The last time I've been there was a bit ago, but here's a compilation of the places I visited if you want to check 'em out! thevietvegan.com/eating-vegan-in-montreal/
Thank you!
plenty!
You said the restaurant is called awai well it is the name of the whole complex. The restaurant itself is avelo 🥰
Awai closed a long time ago and the group reopened as Avelo :)
How about a tour of best places to get a vegan burger and fries? 👍🏼
Haha I bet Eddie would be ALL over that
The Viet Vegan you have to get Eddy try the smoked one at Greenwood Smokehouse !! ( I think it has nuts)
First restaurant 'after working with you'? Did he work with you?
Who? I didn't work with any of these chefs, but Chef Nathan Isberg worked with Chef David Haman?
I think she said "meat" not "me."
Ravioli (I forgot what kind), Dumpling with some sort of velouté, the most incredible gnocchi with morels, risotto with some sort of incredible purée. Is that how you review food? Maybe next time take notes...that part was pretty useless
