Personally, a golf cart is part of the charm of The Villages. It’s a big part. However, you don’t need one and vehicles are safer. I’d want one. The kids would love it. Frankly, so would I. You’re correct, it’s an expensive toy.

When we last visited the Villages, we stayed at a hotel in Spanish Springs and rented a golf cart. We had a great time driving around in it. I plan to take up golf again when I get there so I'll definitely want one, but I want one that looks like a '56 Chevy Bel Aire!

@@PDGula-lk6dqyou’re correct. Better have your ducks in a row and be able to afford those high insurance rates. My advice, have the value of your home in savings and add insurance costs to that account every year. Keep your money. That way, in the long run, you save huge bucks. It’s understandable why insurance premiums are so high. Florida suffers catastrophic losses every year because of the fools that live on the waterfront. I likened it to living in the mountains on an active fault line. Of course, not everyone can afford what I propose. I couldn’t. Also this assumes you pay cash for your house, no financing required. If you finance, the financial institution requires you carry insurance. If you pay cash for your home, nobody cares, but you. If you’re wealthy, you can always buy. What amazes me is these people who lose their homes or they are severely damaged by hurricanes etc, rebuild on the exact same spot. I predict that real estate values will decrease dramatically over time because people won’t be able or willing to pay the insurance premiums. Real estate is grossly inflated in Florida, but very much so in The Villages. Would I live there? Absolutely, in a heartbeat.

I gave up my golf cart years ago. During the summer, it's too hot to use, winter too cold, rainy days stays parked. Can only go a max speed of 20 mph so it takes two to three times longer to get to your destination. Only allowed to drive your golf cart from sunrise to sunset, in winter it gets dark early and is dark in the morning. If you go shopping, you have to go directly home because someone may steal your packages. If it rains while you are out, you are pretty much screwed. Many accidents with golf carts, some fatal. I can go on and on...
If company comes, we rent a golf cart so they can experience it. But, even they are not interested in a few days. Ebikes, motorcycles, cars with moon roofs or convertibles are much more fun. This is my opinion, yours may differ. Be safe out there!

How much one uses a golf cart may depend on one's lifestyle & activities. My friend who has lived in The Villages for 10 years usually only uses her golf cart once or twice a week for trips of 30 minutes or less. She works in Leesburg 3 days a week during the school year, so for that she drives her car. During the summer months she uses her golf cart a little more. If I do move to The Villages, it will probably be a few months before I shop for a golf cart.

In the 1960's-1970's my grandfather had an electric golf cart (lead acid battery), probably 8-10 miles per charge up.
He was a house painter, worked for himself...you better believe he wasn't walking the course after working on a ladder painting.
He would take me along (born in 1961)...It was an old barn with wooden floors, the sound of the golf cleats on the wood...the smell of the red clay mud dirt.
Everybody knew my grandfather...it was like he was a celebrity. WHY? probably because he tended to be quiet and spoke seldom...a gentle giant at 6 foot 4" ....He let his golf game speak for himself...and he loved the game.

My rental car was a subcompact, turned out to be a great choise for cruising around TV. That said, I'm moving to TV in the next couple of months and my daily driver is a 1965 mustang restomod with a moderatley loud exhast system. I might pick up a quiet golf cart just to keep peace with the neighboors.....

That mustang sounds awesome. You’re gonna fit in just fine down here. I have a Harley with very loud pipes and I kind of feel the same of what you’re saying, but no one has given me any grief about it and everybody’s been really friendly about it as a matter fact, I’ve run into some other folks with motorcycles on the squares, whose bikes are just as loud as mine, so I’ve had no problem with noise here so far, but I am aware of it just like you are because we want to be good neighbors, so I don’t fire it up early in the morning or late at night. But fortunately, this town is full of car guys and motorcycle guys so it seems to be very friendly for the genre.

I'm not a huge golfer, and most of the activities I do will be pretty much outside the villages. I'd like to fish lake weir and I have a Suzuki king quad which I'm dying to get up to Ocala National Forest to do some riding. I heard they have 125 miles of ATV trails. I am thinking driving it around in Villages would be frowned upon, lol. The other thing I like doing is going to the Atlantic side Beaches, which obviously is not accessible by golf cart.

His TSX is black exterior and black interior, so how's that working for you and your jeep? Too hot?
