In September I was for the first time in my life in Sweden, visiting a friend. We both like board games so while in Malmö, we went to a board game store, in which (after closing hours) people can play some games. That was already cool enough. Then, while we played 7 wonders, a guy came in and said that he and his brother made this board game and ask if we want check it out. Well, that was "The Beast". Probably the coolest and the most random experience of my life.
I do love they have David Seaworth the famous brother of Davos Seaworth. His brother was the onion knight but David was of course called the funion knight.
City of the Great Machine COMPLETELY looks like one of those games that would get parodied on a video of a board gamer explaining their new favorite to their normal friends, with the normals slowly retreating from the table.
I got a copy of the first edition of The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 a few years back and it quickly became one of my favourite games to play with my friends (helped along by the fact they're also fans of the movie). The only downside is you need an average-to-large player count.
It is SUCH a blast when you can manage to get a group together. Do we know what the changes to 2nd edition are? I haven't seen anything on it. Maybe this is just a second printing and not really a new edition.
@@FictionRaider007 Nothing on BGG about it either yet. Hopefully just a second print run... As much as I love the game I don't REALLY want to buy it again haha.
Beast looks amazing! It reminds me of Fury of Dracula! Too bad FFG won't rerelease it, because 4th edition is getting expensive and rare, but Beast also looks fun and it's cheaper :D Also, please do review of City of Great Machine when it's released!
The people who made The Thing game mustn't have heard about colour blindness. Those yellow and green cards are indistinguishable to me, and possibly 8% of other players too.
@@Exozik no 2 colourblind people are exactly the same. Mine ruins a lot of colour recognition outside of just green and red, it's a real pain, I hate it. I bought new golf clothes the other week, all in mid to light greys. Then my wife pointed out that only the trousers were grey, the top was teal, and the shoes a feint blue. Ah well, sucks, but there are bigger problems in the world.
I backed Beast and City of the Great Machine. The hidden movement aspect of Beast intrigues me. I’m quite new to board gaming and that will be my first hidden movement game in my collection. City of the Great Machine is very thematic and the game play fits the steampunk theme really well. But since both games are 1 vs. many, I am really hoping I can table them. 😞 Picture Perfect seems like a fun game, though. Even plants want their good side’s photo taken. 😂
Who *doesn't* want to play a feral hog. Missed Beast as I just wasn't ready to commit the funds when the campaign was open. But am on the list to find out when the Late Pledge opens.
I could be wrong but I thought that in ‘The Thing’ sabotage cards were automatically played when discovered rather than having the option to discard them.
Hmm, I can only say that isn't how we played it. A non-thing player could be forced to play a Sabotage due to them having nothing left in their hand. We didn't play them automatically.
For those who have played both, which would you be more interested in purchasing? Beast or City of the Great Machine? They are very different but seems to me the scratch the same itch…
Hopefully you’ll read this, even if it’s from an old video…. I’m waiting for Beast to be released on retail because it looks great and I want a hidden movement game but I’m trying to compare it with mind MGMT, what do you think? Which one is better?
I don't know if anyone can help me clarify a doubt...Imagine a 4 player game in GoT, I've the strongest council with another player but the real winner (between the two of us) is the one with the strongest small council? Or is shared win?
It's not a shared win. The primary win condition is having the largest small council, so in your example yes whoever has the largest small council wins. In 3-4 player the winner will always have the largest large council, but in 5-6 player that's not necessarily true.
Wait, GOT Btwixt cards have literally the artwork from GOT Boardgame and Card Games... not even second edition. So I would call it far from "unique". But hey, yet another GoT game to add to my collection

Fantastic preview!
The artist behind every single artwork in Beast is actually one of the designers, it is Aron Midhall! :D
Your game Reminds me of the video game evolve
I played the Thing a couple of times, blasting the original movie soundtrack. I had a blast with it!

dang, cause of you I couldn't even listen to the review seriously :')
"...it's all about THE CONES."
Just backed City of the Great Machine! Thank you for showing me how it's played 😁
Damn, I love the effect that Picture Perfect has on the table, though it looks quite claustrophobic. It immediately reminded me of the game Spy Party.
Big appreciation for Matt's "see what happens" ending
Saw Beast on the Tabletopgamedesign reddit ages ago, awesome to see this fleshed out version here!
I guess Dune: Betrayal is about revealing your... Persona!

@@Mancupcake I was wondering the same thing. From what they showed of the rules and components there doesn't seem to be any massive changes.
@@FictionRaider007 Nothing on BGG about it either yet. Hopefully just a second print run... As much as I love the game I don't REALLY want to buy it again haha.
@@Mancupcake Understandable. Board games can certainly be an investment when it comes to pricing.
Dune Betrayal needs the rights to use the 90's CCG art instead of those images from the new movie (great movie btw), it would look better imo.
Had the honor to do a overview video on this amazing game as well. Such an awesome game loved it a lot!

Beast = Fury of Dracula, right?
19:35 - 19:44 Truer words never spoken
Highly anticipating a true BEAST Review from the one and only SUSD.
I appreciate your ending to the preview of "The Thing" Matt - 100% on point :)
Thank you for all the großartigen Spiele.
The people who made The Thing game mustn't have heard about colour blindness. Those yellow and green cards are indistinguishable to me, and possibly 8% of other players too.
Weird because I am color blind too and specifically with the green and I have no problem here.

@@LeeHobbies I completely understand you. It can feel shameful at times but you're right, we could have much bigger problems.
Put tiny circular stickers on the corner of the card with a Y or G written on them 😊

Are we going to get a 'shut up and sit down play the beast'?
Amazing The Thing reference

I didn't understand almost anything out of picture perfect apart from the fact that I want it :))
Thank you matt for the Persona 4 reference.
Those are some great Reviews with good judgement and interesting opinions.
Hey SUaST! You all should review Escape from Site 19. It's a weird horror rpg/truth or dare game. I want to see what you all think of it!
35:25 Sabotage cards are to be resolved immediately! Captain can't discard them!
Blindsided by the Junes reference!
For those who have played both, which would you be more interested in purchasing? Beast or City of the Great Machine? They are very different but seems to me the scratch the same itch…
Both? ;)
pickles you're going to have to dill with :)
The Thing looks like the unofficial version of Who Goes There? I would like to play any of the two, though.
She said "Excuse me, villain, you be illin' with the AwSHUX gameplay"
He said "Thank you very much, I'm billin' 'till Thursday"
Didn't think I'd see a DOOM reference in the comments.
Did “The Beast” ever come to retail?
I think I prefer Bahamas over Hit the Silk. :P
Persona 4 deep cuts woo hoo.
For real.
Digging Tom’s MF DOOM tee-shirt 😎
Hopefully you’ll read this, even if it’s from an old video….
I’m waiting for Beast to be released on retail because it looks great and I want a hidden movement game but I’m trying to compare it with mind MGMT, what do you think? Which one is better?
I actually think you should check out Sniper Elite, as it seems the best hidden movement alternative.
For 2 players Mind MGMT is a better game. Beast shines at 3 or 4.
Incidentally, all of this year's most interesting games are deduction category...
Of course, it's not a review - you have bananas, not a pear.
Beast has been on BGG for weeks now. :(

@@HunterGracchus So, largest instead of strongest 🤔
@@Arcadio89 I guess I would use those words interchangeably, it's the highest total point value of cards and tokens.
Wow The Thing really does seem remarkably derivative.... Probably would have been a big hit 14 years ago 😄
When are you gonna review Persona 4?

ahah, I missed one!
B'twixt😂😂is that a real word.....is that like " from-under"😅😅
Thats 2 games for this year: Bohtoku and Beast, taking inspiration from the anime film Princess Mononoke.
You look a little blue Quinns :( Hope you're alright
Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad, Hogbad
COULD YOU PLEASE RECOMMEND MORE GARBAGE??? I DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY NOR HAVE I ENOUGH TIME FOR ALL OF THIS!!
