  • You can either replace it or recolor it! My recommendations.

I love that interior color! Modern luxury cars are far too dark.

That's an amazing improvement. I've been thinking the next family car I purchase won't be a new SUV, but an older Mercedes wagon as you've shown here. They're easier to work on, very practical, and look MUCH nicer than anything made in decades.

I used the exactsame SEM paint on my 81 240D's interior carpets. Stripped the interior bare and even took out the parcel shelf. The stuff is incredible. Had to do a lot of cleaning because of all the oiland dirt that was in the carpets but after they dried and I used the SEM product it literally looked like new.

I've used black vinyl and carpet dye on the back hat shelf that had turned purple in my SDL. It came out great!

My 300SD is the same color combo, I believe (light ivory exterior [hellelfenbein auf Deutsch] and "palomino" interior [dattel]). Just FYI for anyone looking for interior parts on a German website, there was no "palomino" color officially. It is either "dattel" (German for date, as in the fruit) or "hellbraun" (light brown). At least that is what I was told, so I could be wrong.

Just sold my Lorinser W124 recently with a Palomino leather interior (Not MB-Tex), I had someone refinish the interior for me but this looks great. Love how passionate you are about it!

I don’t own a older Mercedes, but I do appreciate them and enjoy watching your channel. I always wonder what to do with my Volvo 850 Turbo with tan interior. Those carpets can fade to a light pink! I’ll have to look into those products and see if they have a color that matches mine!

I've got an 80 240d I just got and need to hunt down a driver's side map pocket.
I guess they say my interior color is #137,hah I can't remember the color right now ,but that was my plan to get some vinyl paint in the same shade and find a good used pocket in any color.
      Yeah SEM products rock.

I want an old 1980s Mercedes-Benz 300TD wagon. I asked for this as my next vehicle, but I know I will be turned down when the time comes this summer.

    • @Mercedessource

You want what many other people want. Good wagons are hard to find and going up fast in value. Better get one before summer!

@Mercedessource I know that is right. I'm not mechanically savvy either. A Mercedes new and old will be a large investment.

    Hey Kent
Thanks again for another great video on how to keep my 1980 450 SLC looking top notch. I think my “ pinkamino “ interior needs a little more than a spray product as the vinyl is getting tattered along the seams.
I would like to hear some of your thoughts on using armorall for treating a cracking dash. When I bought my car there was only one small crack emerging from the drivers side defroster opening. I immediately purchased a container of armorall wipes and religiously wiped down the dash the second that it started to look the slightest bit dry. I am always aware of parking it inthe sun and never do w/o covering the dash. With in 2 years there were cracks coming up everywhere. I Completely stopped the armorall 2years ago and the cracks have virtually halted in they’re tracks. I am totally aware of the auto industry being loaded with products that do more harm then good and I disappointed that a trusted name such as armor-all could be one of them.
Anyway thank for the helpful ideas on keeping the interior looking as good as possible. Joe Reno

Back in the 80's we believed that Armor-all was the bees knees for dash protection. Lately, I've come across older cars where the owners religiously applied the stuff to their dashes. Fast forward 15 years and the dash is a GOOPY mess. I think it did more harm than good. Lately, I've experimented with moisturizing the plastics with a heavy coat of Vaseline an a warm day and let it soak into the plastics then wipe off excess.

Back in 80s I had a Ford escort and so did a friend, he religiously treated his dash with Armoral and I never used the stuff. Within a couple of years his dash was all cracked up, mind looked as good as new, you can draw your own conclusions.

Armor all, or any "protectant" that has petroleum distillates is a big nono ,it makes it worse.
And 99% of that stuff on the shelf has it.
I do know por-15 boss gloss has none of that stuff and griots makes some good stuff too.

No professional detailers use Armor-All, which should tell you all you need to know. I use Griot's Garage products.
