  • In the arctic where the Sámi people live (an indigenous people in northern Europe) -- the temperature already risen by 1,5 degrees. If we don´t manage to stop global warming and if climate change is allowed to continue, it means distract results.
This yoik came to traditional Sámi singer Sara Marielle Gaup Beaska, as she was thinking about climate change the warming that threatens the way of life of her people. She will take the yoik with her for the COP21 meeting, which is to be held in Paris later this year. Yoiking is the traditional chanting of the Sámi people. By the yoik you may picture feelings, persons, animals, landscapes, climate and weathers or what ever you want. They yoik can be a really strong power and if we multiply that power together, we can reach all the way into the hearts of the world leaders.
Let´s build pressure towards the politicians negotiating our future - here are two things you can do:
Go to Paris and join the mass action on December 12th: d12.paris
Film yourself performing this yoik and share it widely.

Going to politics is futile. They are the ones who caused this mess. We need to join together in whatever ways we can and spread earthly practices. The indigenous people already know this now we need to learn from them and go back to being part of earth.

@Amalie Olsdatter It will come back. What we are doing needs to be overhauled badly because we have no respect for the earth and we need to change that right away.

Is there someone who speaks this language who can spell out the sounds phonetically for us? Her yoik is beautiful but I'm afraid if I tried to emulate it I would make a horrid mess of it! Many thanks! :)

Wren Paasch I am Sami and can tell you. Joik has no lyrics. It IS a thing or person or place as a sound. There are also joiks for people, like when your child is born you joik them. I hope this helps! :-)
