Anyone else going back and rewatching the trailers post game, just for the surreal feeling of finally understanding what we've been over-analyzing for the past few years?
Hideo Kojima is the GOAT when it comes to story for video games. I love how he puts a lot of complex philosophical story elements in each of his games. The only thing that you can say that doesn't do very well is handling the script
I love this trailer, because it feels far less like a traditional advertisement and more like a surreal painting/film. The music and ambience are mysterious and dreadful. The lack of any dialog gives a feeling of isolation and suspense and makes you concentrate on the world itself. When it was first released, each time I watched it I noticed one new detail after another. The trailer in general feels like (a piece of) a puzzle that draws the viewer deeper into a rabbit hole. No matter if the game is good or bad, no matter if I ever get to play this myself (don't have ps4), this trailer will forever have a place in my heart as a piece of art.

And the absolute best part is, everything that was """bad""" about the first one? You can bet your ass Kojima learned from it and will fix it for the second one. Prepare because I am certain sequel will meet expectations and beyond
This is a game where you fight a giant ghost squid hopping rooftop to rooftop chucking grenades full of your own blood at the thing while it tugs down buildings into the murky depths below, and people act like the *only* thing you ever do is walk. Hell that's not even the only method of traversal and you get an electric trike REALLY early on that speeds the game up a lot when you do.
I like the way things from the beach come back in time and meet you in gameplay...like the other Sam's voices when Sam says, " I am Sam!" then, a voice from another time says, "I'm Sam too!" creepy! I love it! YEAH!!
From what I am understanding from this video: Del Torro = Kojima The baby = Kojima's work The military = KONAMI Mads Mikkelsen = KONAMI CEO The doll = Metal Gear Series This makes me kinda sad knowing what Kojima has gone through
Having finally reached this point in the game organically, suddenly ALL of this makes sense. Makes me remember when this trailer came out, and all we had was speculation.
This is synced with the first trailer! When the baby disappears from hands of the naked guy, it appears in the machine of this guy. When the naked guy cries, this guy's feet start getting flooded. They're also both wearing one side of a cuff, indicating a link I believe. When their backs are turned, they both look further down into the distance. In this trailer, further down, there are those FIVE evil weird soldier things. In the first trailer, further down, there are FIVE weird floating things. I think the naked guy in the first trailer is linked to the baby doll here as they both have that same scar. Furthermore, that baby doll bumping into that guy at the end could tell us that the naked guy did indeed advance towards that sea. So we're seeing teleportations between different dimensions/ life and death/ I have no clue. I love this game already.
Pople in these comments talking about "I wish I could've played THIS version of the game" obviously bailed on DS after 5 hours. Half of the game is like this!
i personally enjoyed the game.. the game is like a new fresh experience compared to shoot fest other games in market at.. maybe i could've not enjoyed this much if market wasn't full of copy cat and garbage mediocre games.. that being said.. death stranding is very long with so many kind of boring delivery missions.. i don't mind these missions if there are more variety in them.. they are like fillers between important events..
one thing kojima consistently does is using in game cutscenes for the trailers. For most part. Even the fake msg2 traielrs with no raiden only changed models
Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen in a freaking game. Probably the best collaboration in gaming history. What a time to be alive, and our lord and savior Kojima is at his BEST. #FuckKonami
He has a pin on his jacket too. It shows the US with a web on top of it - like some kind of political party or organization. Perhaps these people can give life to inanimate objects and control dead bodieslike puppets?
So happy that Ludvig Forssell is working with Kojima again, the OST in Phantom pain and in Ground zeroes were superb, especially the intro in Ground zeroes. Can't wait for the release for Death Stranding.
When I saw this 7 years ago, I thought it is half life related :)) I was so intrigued but in time i forgot about it until the new gameplay trailers and it hooked me back (also I love Mads Mikkelsen). I was very curious about what is going on. It was my first Kojima title I played, I didn't knew his stile. I loved the game, still play it from time to time. It is a very complex story, full of symbolism, very hard to digest for the casual gamers. Like a graffiti wall doodle punk at a Salvador Dalí exhibition :))
The way the compass at that guy's chest moves at 3:58, the way that baby's eye blinks at 4:13 and the way fish swim in the new trailer are hinting something weird is happening to gravity/magnetic poles
It'll most probably explain the fact that Deadman is, in fact, dead by the time he interacts with Sam and the holographic projection we see is an AI crafted around the man's personality and knowledge. He was probably killed by Cliff in the "hell" dimension.
@@Ghostofenzo Nope every single cutscene and trailer kojima has shown is at the same quality as this one and this ain't ubisoft we are talking about here, none of kojima and any playstation exclusive has ever been downgraded
Kojima truly has a mind of a genius. The Metal Gear story about nuclear weapons and America vs Soviet Union, the cold war. If I was a billionaire, I would 100% support his ideas in story telling and would give him all the money and resources he needs. He can take any idea and make it into a true vision. Something unique. We need more developers like Kojima.
This breaks the fourth wall in so many layers. I'm still stunned how the world on the other side of the screen seeps into our world and how our world seeps into the world behind the screen. To worlds, in one game. It is not even compareable to any kind of art that I know. I wish you success Mr Kojima. May this be the beginning of a new era. The era of Homo Ludens.
That's more true than you know. There's more to the story than what you have when the game ends. Remember when Amelie says: "But, to connect the dots, to make sense of everything, you need perspective. You need time."? That's not Amelie talking to Sam. That's Kojima talking to the player. There are so many clues hidden in the cutscenes to a mystery the player is not even presented with.
While the game itself is a lot of fun and one of my favorites, it would have been just as fun if Death Stranding had just remained a bunch of highly conceptual, loosely connected trailers for a nonexistent game. Also, remember reading Kojima tweets that suggested dying was going to be a more involved game mechanic - I.e., dying (and perhaps destroying the world [this was before the concept of voidouts was announced]) at the right times and places being how you progress - but the delivery man sim with light stealth and gun combat that predicted Covid-era isolation and loneliness was just as novel. The perfect game to herald in the 2020s.
@@augiemdmorado i feel like they were bound because of the tech. Even though the ps4 was extremely capable, it was simply getting old. The next gen hardware may just be enough to support some of the wilder abandoned ideas which we might see in DS2.
Here I just want to thank Kojima Productions for trying their best to innovate the gaming experience and not being bothered by the trash talk that many are saying. I'm looking forward to this game and its success even if I don't play it in the near future. Stay sharp, bold and creative as always Kojima.

I've buried 19 of hours into this game so far, occasionally seeing Mads Mikkelsen during cutscenes which seem to be flashbacks about him being a nice guy, but I'm still yet to see him in this agressive form. Still so curious about what's gonna happen. I should find more time to play this game further.
Keep going bro! I've put in about 45 hrs so far and it's getting insane! haha I wasn't sure in the first few hours, but now I know this game is for me : )
I finished playing the game in the 2021's Quarantine period. Trust me, its worth it. Keep playing it and enjoying it. Don't give up at any point, your future self will thank you for playing such an incredible game. Keep On Keeping On.
Should we post theories already? >a company called Bridges is established with the purpose of researching space/time travel and human evolution >they somehow manage to find a way to warp space and time using the psychic abilities of genetically enhanced babies >these genetically enhanced beings can use parts of the brain that are unreachable for normal people, through biotechnology, humans were able to transcend their own limitations, creating a being that surpasses their understanding (think of the Star Child at the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Kojima's favourite movie of all time) >the fetuses however cannot warp as they please, they need something like a host to direct them in the right direction and pull the necessary strings and coordenate thoughts >for a normal human to experience time/space travel, they have to be connected in a primordial way, a way that both beings would share nutrients and thoughts >a surgery is made so that hosts(humans) can adapt to be receptive of the fetus, an artificial umbilical cord is what keeps both host and fetus attached and able to warp time/space >brain implants are sometimes also necessary as our undeveloped cerebrum would reject the strong will of a being that has transcended humanity (scar on Del Toro's forehead) >however, our forced evolution led by our knowledge of biotechnology did not go unnoticed >our defiance, our pride, our greed, our lack of touch and care with what surrounds us, we never thought we would one day have to pay for these mistakes >an ancient and god-like alien race, responsible for the advances of various primitive races throughout the whole universe, even our own (another reference to 2001 A Space Odyssey) did not take kindly to our defiance of the natural course >we didn't know, but they have always been watching us since the start, they have always been there, looking, judging, helping since the start of everything (Swedish radio on PT talks about "they") >upon thousands of years of surveillance, our race is finally judged for our mistakes, and our own wish of transcending our humanity was what caused the rage of our observers >the ocean, the water, the very same place where life started and is therefore seem as the origin of everything, now has strands that spread throughout the waves spreading death to all living things, umbilical cords that seem to suck out nutrients instead of providing them >a disease that seem to attack our reproductive system making both man and women unable to conceive children (reference from Children of Man, another one of Kojima's favourite movies) >5 generals are also sent to our planet in order to make the harvesting of resources and crowd control easier, buy mainly, to hunt the genetically enhanced beings we humans were able to create >these generals are beings that have transcended their own origins and now stand as something totally different, something that defies order and everything that is natural >they have abilities far from our imagination, but one in particular is the reanimation of physical and biological things though the use of the black goo, substance that is harvested by the black umbilical cords connected to every living thing near oceans, this substance works as a universal fuel, making it possible for these generals to bring life through death (Mads Mikkelsen has umbilical cords on him and many on his feet, he is probably taking the fuel directly though the cords at his feet, that are connect to sea life on oceans, a huge web of cords that covers the whole world providing almost infinite fuel) >these generals can also warp though time/space and materialize weapons and equipment they have been in contact with using the black goo as fuel (when Mads makes his helmet disappear, the needle in the HUD present on his chest moves, as to show some fuel was used for that action, same thing happens when he releases the dead WW2 squad from his umbilical cords) >the first time we see Mads(one of the generals) he is covered in black goo, as if he had so much fuel stored that it was literally going down his eyes >when he releases the soldiers, a big part of the fuel stored into him goes with them as nutrients, this causes Mads body to balance the quantity of fuel left and push back some of the substance that had gone out through his eyes (that is why his face is clean after the camera pans to the doll)
Best theory I've read so far. Many pieces of it I've theorized myself as well but you really put it together in the full picture. Whether it all turns out true or not, well done!
One more thing about the baby Del Toro is carrying. It looks like these genetically enhanced fetuses are not only used for warping time/space, but also use objects around them for their advantage. When Del Toro looks at the Doll, he realizes he can use that to eavesdrop on what enemy lies ahead. He establishes a connection with the fetus and shares his thoughts, basically telling the baby to use the doll. As you can see, the baby immediately opens his right eye, causing the doll to open its eyes when it reaches the enemy (Mads Mikkelsen)
Interesting theory, good work. One issue with your theory regarding the "fuel consumption" indicator on his chest though is that it's actually a compass, you can see the North, East, South and West indicators on it. You see it spinning rapidly whenever Mads uses his "powers" or rather the technology he has, such as when he removes his NVG / helmet, or when he releases his skeletal soldiers from their cords, this suggests that using this power / technology distorts magnetic fields around the user - causing the compass to spin around for a moment like you see in the trailer. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but that's the fun of theorising!
I saw DeadMan and Heartman's theory of the beach and how every person can be placed to a unique world. They still dont explain why that tank has guts and tentacles coming out from inside!
I think it's because it was Clifford's beach and it has something to do with him going to hell and back to bring the best of the best soldiers he can ever recruit just to get his BB back.
He's a soldier and if there one thing we know is that war can be hell for soldiers like him. Who know maybe those tentacles are for the soldiers who drowned at sea died fighting.
Because it´s abstract symbolism. You can´t explain it precisely but it makes some kind of sense or at least awakens ideas and emotions when you see it. That´s the point of art - exploring the unknown in an aesthetic manner.
I just noticed this after watching many times....Maddz face has the black goo on it until the baby doll's eye opens, his face is totally clean after that.
As he took of the night vision goggles I almost expected a 'Kept you waiting huh'
his smirk said it all.

Hell that's not even the only method of traversal and you get an electric trike REALLY early on that speeds the game up a lot when you do.
remember the moment when you had no idea what this is about
I’ve played more than 70 hours. I still have no idea what this is about...
@@nomansland4597 70hours and still have no idea? bro your genre of games probably are free fire or something
@@MISTAH.X if my genre were “free fire or something” I wouldn’t even care to spend at least 2 hours in this game
@@nomansland4597 it's said in the game chiral density increase causes a temporal portal to a beach for WW2 soldiers who died in battle 🤷🏻♂️
I like the way things from the beach come back in time and meet you in gameplay...like the other Sam's voices when Sam says, " I am Sam!" then, a voice from another time says, "I'm Sam too!" creepy! I love it! YEAH!!
From what I am understanding from this video:
Del Torro = Kojima
The baby = Kojima's work
The military = KONAMI
Mads Mikkelsen = KONAMI CEO
The doll = Metal Gear Series
This makes me kinda sad knowing what Kojima has gone through
Samath Lokuge lul
I hope the trailer isnt just a representation of Kojima's situation but that this is actually gonna be in the game
+Boost4Life Aww. Aren't you adorable.
On one hand, I can't wait for this game to come out so I'll finally understand these trailers, but another part of me loves the surreal mystery.
Having finally reached this point in the game organically, suddenly ALL of this makes sense. Makes me remember when this trailer came out, and all we had was speculation.
Same Now
This is the trailer that makes me want to play this game so bad
So good to see Del Toro, Reedus and Kojima reunited. And now Mads Mikkelsen too....HYPE.
I just finished this part of the game.
And it's 10/10.
My head just exploded outwards
Pople in these comments talking about "I wish I could've played THIS version of the game" obviously bailed on DS after 5 hours. Half of the game is like this!
Sorry I fell asleep on the third run over the same place
@@Mart-E12 sucks for you! maybe your attention span is too short :(
Yeah also I didn't understand how to fight the enemies, all I had was piss grenades
i personally enjoyed the game.. the game is like a new fresh experience compared to shoot fest other games in market at.. maybe i could've not enjoyed this much if market wasn't full of copy cat and garbage mediocre games.. that being said.. death stranding is very long with so many kind of boring delivery missions.. i don't mind these missions if there are more variety in them.. they are like fillers between important events..
@@Mart-E12 There is literally a button dedicated to smacking the shit out of them
The way that guys helmet and visor disappeared is awesome.
Tooooooo awesome.
I love this moment. Mads (Cliff)is so cool
Guillermo del Toro hides newborn Silent Hill game from the hideous Konami's army of lawyers
i'm back here because i see the scene in the game! it's so surpise, this ain't just random teaser cinematic
one thing kojima consistently does is using in game cutscenes for the trailers. For most part. Even the fake msg2 traielrs with no raiden only changed models
I'll stop watching this video one day, but only when we have a new trailer
1:27 god i love the ominous music that starts playing here, wish i could hear the full track

@@LPrussia07 Nice find :O Thanks
Enjoy, friend. Also there`s rumor that at The Game Awards 2018 the release date will be announced. Can`t wait for what Kojima got in store for us.
Why I can't get bored watching this trailer kojima knows what we like so BADASS
And here we are... In 2022. Kojima Predictions.
And it was at this moment that Konami knew, he fucked up.
who is he?
Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen in a freaking game. Probably the best collaboration in gaming history. What a time to be alive, and our lord and savior Kojima is at his BEST.
#FuckKonami
There is no better Villian face and voice than this man.
4:25 - Look at that smirk! It fills you with chills!
Kojima is a master. He makes the best trailers.
Superlosia and the best games
Konami: Why are we here? Just to suffer?
Kojima: You've had your chance.
Game’s been getting mixed reviews but that hasn’t killed my hyped. He did say it wouldn’t be a game for everyone.
I watch the trailer at least once a week to remind myself how epic this game's gonna be
i watch it once a day
May just be the coolest clip ever conceived, especially with the amazing visuals and music.
Amazing ass soundtrack paired with the always flawless cinematography that only Kojima could pull off. I'm fucking ready.
Just wanted to note. If you look closely at Del Toro, his head has a scar stitched across his forehead.
Perhaps That baby is Norman's Death strand? The baby was male. ( looked male anyway)
He has a pin on his jacket too. It shows the US with a web on top of it - like some kind of political party or organization. Perhaps these people can give life to inanimate objects and control dead bodieslike puppets?
HK
it actually says united cities of america
So happy that Ludvig Forssell is working with Kojima again, the OST in Phantom pain and in Ground zeroes were superb, especially the intro in Ground zeroes.
Can't wait for the release for Death Stranding.
This was the only game i pre-ordered
was it worth it
When I saw this 7 years ago, I thought it is half life related :)) I was so intrigued but in time i forgot about it until the new gameplay trailers and it hooked me back (also I love Mads Mikkelsen).
Mads Mikkelsen is always so insanely terrific.
The way the compass at that guy's chest moves at 3:58, the way that baby's eye blinks at 4:13 and the way fish swim in the new trailer are hinting something weird is happening to gravity/magnetic poles
feels like something weird is happening to everything possible
And the upside-down rainbow in the sky!
Something weird is happening to Kojima's brain
Happy that Kojima confirmed this scene is actually in the game 👌
Bryguy 5+ yeah but I’m sure it’ll be downgraded compared to this lol
It'll most probably explain the fact that Deadman is, in fact, dead by the time he interacts with Sam and the holographic projection we see is an AI crafted around the man's personality and knowledge.
He was probably killed by Cliff in the "hell" dimension.
@@Ghostofenzo Nope every single cutscene and trailer kojima has shown is at the same quality as this one and this ain't ubisoft we are talking about here, none of kojima and any playstation exclusive has ever been downgraded

Every time I watch this trailer it gets better and better.
Lonely Jew Gaming Ikr, me too.
stay weird kojima. I love it
Kojima truly has a mind of a genius.
Death Stranding is a game that doesn't grow on you.
You grow on it.
That's more true than you know. There's more to the story than what you have when the game ends. Remember when Amelie says:
"But, to connect the dots, to make sense of everything, you need perspective. You need time."? That's not Amelie talking to Sam.
That's Kojima talking to the player. There are so many clues hidden in the cutscenes to a mystery the player is not even presented with.
The speculation about this game was fucking insane. These trailers were perfect.
As someone who's never played the Metal Gear series I'm very much looking forward to this being my first experience with a game by Hideo Kojima
Hazardous Bill SAME.
Hazardous Bill do yourself a favor and PLAY THEM. You're doing yourself a disservice
reilly swetnam It's not so much that I don't want to, it's more because I don't want to give Konami my money.
Same here, but the reason is because I don't really have much time.
Hazardous Bill buy the games used ;)
Here I just want to thank Kojima Productions for trying their best to innovate the gaming experience and not being bothered by the trash talk that many are saying. I'm looking forward to this game and its success even if I don't play it in the near future. Stay sharp, bold and creative as always Kojima.
Kojima games never fails to keep you thinking about it even when you have completed it huh?
One of my favorite directors and one of my favorite actors in one of my favorite game designers' creation ♥
Incredibly atmospheric, especially with this wonderful music
I've buried 19 of hours into this game so far, occasionally seeing Mads Mikkelsen during cutscenes which seem to be flashbacks about him being a nice guy, but I'm still yet to see him in this agressive form. Still so curious about what's gonna happen. I should find more time to play this game further.
Keep going bro! I've put in about 45 hrs so far and it's getting insane! haha
I wasn't sure in the first few hours, but now I know this game is for me : )
I finished playing the game in the 2021's Quarantine period. Trust me, its worth it. Keep playing it and enjoying it. Don't give up at any point, your future self will thank you for playing such an incredible game. Keep On Keeping On.
Started this game a few days ago! Got 45hrs now and more are comming. I love this game so much ♥️
Should we post theories already?
>a company called Bridges is established with the purpose of researching space/time travel and human evolution
>they somehow manage to find a way to warp space and time using the psychic abilities of genetically enhanced babies
>these genetically enhanced beings can use parts of the brain that are unreachable for normal people, through biotechnology, humans were able to transcend their own limitations, creating a being that surpasses their understanding (think of the Star Child at the end of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Kojima's favourite movie of all time)
>the fetuses however cannot warp as they please, they need something like a host to direct them in the right direction and pull the necessary strings and coordenate thoughts
>for a normal human to experience time/space travel, they have to be connected in a primordial way, a way that both beings would share nutrients and thoughts
>a surgery is made so that hosts(humans) can adapt to be receptive of the fetus, an artificial umbilical cord is what keeps both host and fetus attached and able to warp time/space
>brain implants are sometimes also necessary as our undeveloped cerebrum would reject the strong will of a being that has transcended humanity (scar on Del Toro's forehead)
>however, our forced evolution led by our knowledge of biotechnology did not go unnoticed
>our defiance, our pride, our greed, our lack of touch and care with what surrounds us, we never thought we would one day have to pay for these mistakes
>an ancient and god-like alien race, responsible for the advances of various primitive races throughout the whole universe, even our own (another reference to 2001 A Space Odyssey) did not take kindly to our defiance of the natural course
>we didn't know, but they have always been watching us since the start, they have always been there, looking, judging, helping since the start of everything (Swedish radio on PT talks about "they")
>upon thousands of years of surveillance, our race is finally judged for our mistakes, and our own wish of transcending our humanity was what caused the rage of our observers
>the ocean, the water, the very same place where life started and is therefore seem as the origin of everything, now has strands that spread throughout the waves spreading death to all living things, umbilical cords that seem to suck out nutrients instead of providing them
>a disease that seem to attack our reproductive system making both man and women unable to conceive children (reference from Children of Man, another one of Kojima's favourite movies)
>5 generals are also sent to our planet in order to make the harvesting of resources and crowd control easier, buy mainly, to hunt the genetically enhanced beings we humans were able to create
>these generals are beings that have transcended their own origins and now stand as something totally different, something that defies order and everything that is natural
>they have abilities far from our imagination, but one in particular is the reanimation of physical and biological things though the use of the black goo, substance that is harvested by the black umbilical cords connected to every living thing near oceans, this substance works as a universal fuel, making it possible for these generals to bring life through death (Mads Mikkelsen has umbilical cords on him and many on his feet, he is probably taking the fuel directly though the cords at his feet, that are connect to sea life on oceans, a huge web of cords that covers the whole world providing almost infinite fuel)
>these generals can also warp though time/space and materialize weapons and equipment they have been in contact with using the black goo as fuel (when Mads makes his helmet disappear, the needle in the HUD present on his chest moves, as to show some fuel was used for that action, same thing happens when he releases the dead WW2 squad from his umbilical cords)
>the first time we see Mads(one of the generals) he is covered in black goo, as if he had so much fuel stored that it was literally going down his eyes
>when he releases the soldiers, a big part of the fuel stored into him goes with them as nutrients, this causes Mads body to balance the quantity of fuel left and push back some of the substance that had gone out through his eyes (that is why his face is clean after the camera pans to the doll)
that's one hell of a theory!! hard not to believe!! your more hardcore than I am
Best theory I've read so far. Many pieces of it I've theorized myself as well but you really put it together in the full picture. Whether it all turns out true or not, well done!
Thanks man!
I'm the only one who can hear Konami cry?
Tyler I hear it too, it's accompanied by the sound of their money going down the drain for metal gear survive
"FUCK KONAMI" - Guillermo del Toro
Thought i am the only one.
That place is Hades it represents the global conflicts from the past like World War 1, World War 2 and Vietnam
