People walked over the soil at Comstock and the dirt was blue….the blue color was because of the sheer amount of silver oxide in the dirt
It's like Minecraft Players struck diamond vibe.
@@davidarvingumazon5024 vein*
Probably not oxide as silver oxidizes very little -- more likely silver nitrate. That chemical turned my finger quite blue/purple one time which gave me a scare.
@@Jordan-rb28 vibe: feeling
@@Jordan-rb28 pretty sure he did want to say vibe lol, he means its the same vibe as finding diamonds
I remember the story of the Comstock. When Henry first discovered the larger mine they were pulling out blue ore that they didn't realize it was silver at first
Tons of that ore was dumped in the river before they realized.

There are actually open EMERALD FIELDS in North or South Carolina that the PUBLIC can go to , to look for emeralds .
I think the name is something like
HIDDENITE .
It's pretty cheap to get in , but some people actually pay more and rent steam shovels to go in there , no lie !
You might want to look for the vids about it ... really fascinating and that's a road trip I would love to do sometime
I think it's also either the ONLY emerald fields OPEN TO THE PUBLIC in the whole Western Hemisphere or possibly the whole planet .

@@gardensofthegods I think you're right about that. Some of the highest quality emeralds and ruby's come from Pakistan and Afghanistan. But I've heard of this field you speak of in the Carolinas (I'm in NC)
Also called the Comstock lode if anyone is curious
My father talked about it when I was little. He read a lot of westerns. I did too. The comstock lode was in a few.
@@lookronjon Mark Twain spent a lot of time in Virginia City and wrote many stories about the area. They do cheesy tours up there now yet many places in the State are boom towns because of the mining it's more gold now but a lot of silver is also mined.
I live in Reno & I’ve driven most parts of the state of Nevada & everywhere I’ve gone, I’ve seen dozens of abandoned mines. There are warning signs not to go in but people get killed ignoring them anyway.
@@skyediamonds5654 I live in Reno also. I'm old but in my youth me and buddies were so stupid that we thought it was fun to build small bombs and set them as far into the test holes, drilled around Reno, then light the fuse and get out as quickly as you can. There is one up in what used to be called 7th st pits it was one of our favorite. There was another on the dirt trail leading to hunter lake we blew that one up a lot.

The volume from the Comstock load was so large that Germany took their currency off the silver standard due to the massive find.
Wow, sounds a bit ridiculous. XD but now, I guess no currency is backed by anything….
Comstock didn't discover the lode - the 2 brothers you mentioned did. He took it over when the brothers died on the way to San Francisco where they were going to get the ore assayed.
Seems awfully convenient
@@Patrick-zr8tvyeah, it does, like a lot of things in history
@@Patrick-zr8tv Credit for the discovery of the Comstock Lode is disputed. It is said to have been discovered, in 1857, by Ethan Allen Grosh and Hosea Ballou Grosh, sons of a Pennsylvania clergyman, trained mineralogists and veterans of the California gold fields.[3] Hosea injured his foot and died of sepsis[4] in 1857. In an effort to raise funds, Allen, accompanied by an associate, Richard Maurice Bucke,[4] set out on a trek to California with samples and maps of his claim.
Henry Comstock was left in their stead to care for the Grosh cabin and a locked chest containing silver and gold ore samples and documents of the discovery. Grosh and Bucke never made it to California. They suffered from frostbite while crossing the Sierra Nevada, and lost limbs by amputation in a last-ditch effort to save their lives. Allen Grosh died on December 19, 1857.[5] R.M. Bucke lived, but upon his recovery returned to his home in Canada.
When Henry T. P. Comstock learned of the death of the Grosh brothers, he claimed the cabin and the lands as his own. He also examined the contents of the trunk but thought nothing of the documents as he was not an educated man. What he did know is that the gold and the silver ore samples were from the same vein. He continued to seek out diggings of local miners working in the area, as he knew the Grosh brothers' find was still unclaimed. Upon learning of a strike on Gold Hill which uncovered some bluish rock (silver ore), Comstock immediately filed for an unclaimed tract directly adjacent to this area.
Jose and Elijah Grosse were the 2 Mexican Brothers that discovered Silver. Jose put a pick through his foot and Died of blood poisoning before they got a claim filed. Comstock was looking for Gold, he was to stupid to realize his blue mine tailings were loaded with Silver. When he was made aware of the Silver He was wrongly given credit for what is known as the Comstock Lode near Virginia City.
Guess there are some things that you should just keep to yourself.
meanwhile in Nevada people are mining silver
Somewhere in Nevada
@@skirry9014 finaly
Cool
@@skirry9014 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Its sketchy and still expensive. So its spotty. Yes, SOME silver is being mined at feasible rates. Its not real lucrative like gold, tho'.
Nevada also has a ton of copper mining. With a couple gold mines. Digging is all we can do out here. And the alfalfa.
Nevada is only behind South Africa and all the rest of the US combined when it comes to gold production. Most countries don't mine as much gold as Nevada. And yes Alfalfa. And onions the Perry Boys or their kids by now in Yerington same place they mine copper gold is Elko and Ely. Drive to Ely and you will pass 4 or 5 man made mountains from the tailings that have been cleaned and are not hazards they build mountains. Oh we also bury a lot of garbage.
@@jssomewhere6740 Nevada does pull large amounts of gold from the ground but by no means is it leading when it comes to the world stage. Sure 75% of gold production in America is from
Nevada but America itself is 5th and loosing ground when you look at ounces coming out of the ground .
@@loganroberge7632 I'm just repeating stats I've read. Nevada produces more gold than all except two nations including the US if Nevada is not included. South Africa is #1 and I cannot remember who #2 is, then Nevada.
@@jssomewhere6740 #1 china #2 Russia #3 Australia #4 Canada #5 America . It’s been a long time since America has been anywhere near the top and as I said is slipping behind year after year.
@Captain Fantastic so I went and checked again my data was old it was 2016 and 17 and Nevada was #2 in the world behind China
The list for 22 varies a few say # 5 and some #4 then another claims #8 with Alaska out producing. Some say China, Russia, Australia, US, Canada, then some have US and Canada flipped, there was one that said US was #2
Let me reword it. Nevada ranks in the top 5 or 10 gold producing nations even though it is one State in the United States. Nevada found its way to State hood by helping to fund the Civil War with the huge silver discoveries at that time. Though Nevada does still produce a significant amount of silver, the big money in the State now is gold. It is found in the tailings from copper mines and gold specific mines. Though the production has fallen off a bit since 2016 the state still represents 50% of the nation's claims on gold mines. Since the State doesn't have a lot of surface water so everything needed in Nevada must be dug up.
The government set up a small Carson City mint just a met the silver coming out of the Comstock mine
Paid for the Civil War and helped rebuild the bay area.
I used to deliver pizza around Birchmount and Danforth in Scarborough in 1999. One of the roads was called Comstock which had a regular customer which was a mental institution. All the drivers hated going to Comstock.
Did they ask for a silver topping?
You should be given a medal for bravery for delivering in that area lol
Mental institution? Are you sure you weren't entertaining Washington DC?
Scarborough is a place near me in the uk and I was thinking where are birchmounth and danforth 😂😂😂
It’s in Toronto
Yo that's my relative. All Comstock's in America all relate to William Comstock, cool dude

@@goldfish1493 you're a GOLD fish. I think you're richer 😂
Nevada now produces more gold than CA
The Comstock load is most likely the most famous of all precious metal finds.
So much so that the name of it is instantly recognizable to people despite them not knowing what it is.
People mispronouncing "Nevada" 😔
This is how you populate regions where people have no interest
I heard that the deposit was so large it significantly depreciated the value of silver. It used to be almost as valuable as gold, but this one mine churned out so much that the value of silver actually suffered inflation.
Nevada produces more gold that the rest of the world only out done by South Africa and the rest of the US combined. As well as an enormous amount of silver and copper. Nevada is also a large producer of lithium. It may be thought of as hundreds of miles of desert but that desert contains untold wealth. Nevada being the most mountainous State in the 48 has had a lot of stuff pushed up.
That’s not exactly how it happened but your right about Comstock Lode.
Go to Virginia City! They have tons of history there, guided mine tours, there's an old railway that runs through it
Comstock didn't discover it. He tricked a couple of other guys into taking him as a partner by lying to them about having a right to their claim.
He was nicknamed Pancake because he was too impatient to wait for his sourdough to rise, so he made pancakes instead of bread.
Man I was just waiting for the best part why everybody says the Comstock load
I love buying Morgan Silver Dollars with the CC mint mark. All of these came from the Silver mined out of that famous mine.
I got over 100 morgans.😊
This is why most of Nevada is gov owned.
we also have area51 and the largest nuclear bomb test site in the world.
Most people don't realize how much of Nevada is owned by the government...and the vast amount of it is in areas of known mineralization...basically the whole center of the state is blm land ...from Pahrump to the Idaho border is littered with old mine works from around that time ...the government stole those claims....what's at area 51 ?? It's not little green men in flying saucers...its my belief that one of the largest ore body's in Nevada ... stretch's from Tonopah to Indian springs.... the Nevada test site,Nellis airforce base and area 51 are all sitting on a huge body of gold and silver ore....lots of hot water in Nevada ..follow the hot water you will find gold...
Where is Nevodda? Is it near Nevada???
A. a^
Tv series bonanza wrote a episode about it
When Comstock sold his claim, he thought he was SCAMMING the buyers.
I’ll never understand why we got stuck with the silver state instead of being the gold state. Just cause they happened to find silver first? 😂 4th largest producer in gold in the entire world… and we are “the silver state”
That’s true but I believe the technique of producing as much as they do, didn’t happen until after the titles of The Golden state and The Silver state had already been decided.
Why not create a petition to change the name to something like THE OTHER GOLD STATE get people to sign it to get the name changed from the Silver State to that title or maybe something like the Gold and Silver State ?
Last I heard , you only need 50,000 names on the petition to help get a law changed .
Theres already a golden state though lol, silver is cooler anyways
Silver is a great metal.
Better than "The Mob State" or "The Place Where Burning Man Happens"
When the story starts with "2 brothers" you know it's gonna be good
Bro was really named Cumsock 💀
Was told on a tour in Virginia City Nv. That there are 750 miles of tunnels there!
Get yourself some silver. Some people say it will be worth as much as gold when the banks fail.
The old TV show Death Valley Days had an episode about this silver discovery. If I remember correctly, Comstock sorta cheated the two out of their claim then sold it for a quick profit with the new owners discovering that the abundant bluestone was chock-full of silver.
Yeah but if you scroll up to a reply in one of the comments buy a guy calling himself RANDOM DUDE , he explains the whole story about what really happened .
And that’s why there’s a lot of silver, but only a single Platnum Chip
One day, two brothers were mining for gold and found a lot of silver, but one of them couldn't keep his mouth shut.
The brass bell found in a lump of coal beats all.

One of the brothers couldn't hold his booze.
The Comstock mine he did not find. He stumbled across a couple of gentlemen who had found it and he lied to the gentleman and said that it was his land and they will split it 50/50 then he went into town and bought the land and got the permit
He must have a little sugar in his tank, just by the way he says Nevada.
So this is from where all the Madness Combat characters get their money from.
The Comstock load.... legendary.
Solid camera work.
Became a big stock market scam too if i remember correctly
" I was looking for gold and found silver, but it's good enough"
I have no idea why but your comment made me think of ,”silver and gold “ sang in the voice of the miner in Rudolph the red nose reindeer . I’ve been up all night and have mild headache problems,
This is why you never tell anyone and swear your workers to secrecy. Then when you mined what you can you sell the location to a group of wealthy investors.
“Any gold!? Nahhh, just more damn silver!”
Just added nicotine gum to my bucket list.

The even cooler bit is that the town's newspaper editor was a young man named Samuel Langhorne Clemens
