    MG Astor is pure luxury, particularly the top end Savvy Turbo AT trim. No other car in its segment compares to its build quality, luxurious interiors, tech and safety. It's an international model quite popular in UK and Europe too. Its ADAS too works perfect and far better than the competition. Great job by MG!

    I still don't understand why manufacturers don't put basic features like auto dimming rear view mirror or tilt and telescopic steering wheel in their cars. They give everything that Maybe we don't even want or care in a car. How much money does these inexpensive features costs for them. Auto journalists really should ask manufacturers for the omission of basic necessities for drivers.

    • @NikhilOnCars
      @NikhilOnCars Před 2 lety +15

      It all adds up to a lot of money, sadly. It'll be a tough call for the carmaker but you can't give everything and ADAS for the same money as rivals.

    It’s quite funny Astor’s brochure has nothing to talk about the engine or gearbox in the first 27 pages. There’s a table on page 28 with the spec in brief. Hilarious for a car’s brochure.

    Took a test drive yesterday of 1.3 turbo automatic top model.
    Now confused about buying automatic and manual since there was an initial lag before turbo kicks in. Driving pleasure was good, suspension was super good, overall liked it but not that peppy for an enthusiast.
    Steering modes were fabulous, really felt the change in steering weight in 3 modes.

    The AI part of this car is just plain gimmick. Connected car feature can be present without having that distracting robo face on the top of dashboard, like what we have in Creta. And the car manufacturers are better off with integrating Alexa or Google assistant to make it really useful.
    Being a Software Engineer, and having worked in Alexa team for more than 2 years, I understand how the AI and ML can be difficult to implement. You need extremely complex ML models, and millions of real world data to train it. Otherwise it will remain a basic implementation just performing some common commands and answering common answers like weather, distance, etc.
    An automobile manufacturer will never be able to evolve this system, unless they make huge investment in it. And even though they won't be able to obviously compete with Amazon or Google. So I think its better for them to invest more in performance and driving dynamics.
    But still, I think it will help MG to pull in more customers, because an average Indian, won't know these tech in details and would be really impressed with feature set it offers.
    For me though, I will prefer German, since I love cars with engaging driving and more performant engines. When it comes to AI stuff, I am gonna use Android Auto and Google Assistant with it. Trust me that will be much more useful than this gimmick, specially finding directions, point of interests, essential shops and fuel stations, etc.

They have chosen to use a mediocre turbo engine and transmission, so the savings could be used elsewhere like those interiors or features like ADAS, etc. Its quite evident it won't be the drivers delight like VW/Skoda are, but it will definitely look plusher.
