    I bought the double wide I think that's the way to go but I'd be tempted to get the regular wide for short competition fit rather than a bigger shoe which creates more length. Bont is the best shoe imo hands down. The shape alone is worth the price.

    I have the vaypor+. really like it after a year. Due to the tub type body they feel weird at first but that went away for me. Don't even think that if the fit isn't right they will break in because there is NO give on that tub. Heat is the only fix for that. Like your channel.

    My first proper road shoes are Giro Empire (Laceups) so am very interested to hear about other brands with the BOA system 👌 What I love about the Empires I have is there weight which is amazing.

    Love my bonts with g8 insoles!

    I have some Vaypor S’s, but I’ve been using Bonts on and off for the past 10 years. They do take some getting used too. The Vaypor S has a much narrower box than older Bonts. Which is a good thing. The one problem with them is because they have a flat sole they don’t work well with different pedals systems. As most cleats have an underside curvature bolting say Look Keo, Shimano SPD SL deforms the shape of the cleat which gives the pedal to shoe interface a sloppy feel. Though they work quite well with Speedplay and reasonably well with Time iClic systems.

    I've got Bonts (riots) and love them, also struggled with the oven. My oven said 70 but definitely wasn't there.
    Thinking about swapping to speed play from Look Keo, did you have to change the saddle height much ?

    The shape of Bonts has really grown on me

    I had the pain on the outer part of my feet but I essentially learned from the pain that I needed a wider q factor. Other shoes, the side of the foot just mashed against the microfiber but with the carbon fiber tub, I realized I was using too much of my outer foot. Wonder if you could benefit from that as well.

    @lorddilego6805 Před 3 lety +2

    Well how will we now know how many watts we can gain from the Bonts versus the speedplays? ;P
    Good point about the ovens btw. I wonder how many cases of bad fit are just because the shoe never got hot enough to mold around the foot properly...

    For Ed or anyone else: as the owner of two white bikes, I got a pair of white S-Works Exos shoes and I'm afraid to go outside with them until I treat them with something so they'll come clean from all the dust on the roads here (it's the Middle East, and dust is everywhere!). Anyone have bright ideas for keeping new shoes looking new? Scotchguard? Any other treatment you know that works?

    Interesting - tbh very naively I didn’t realise shoes (& every bit of kit) were quite so critical. Changing team must bring some stresses then. “Ovens are weird” haha try an Aga ...🤔 PS do you wash your insoles regularly?

    Just got a pair of these, going to mould tomorrow but feel and look great.
    Quick question, going from Shimano Sphyre RC 9 shoes, will I need to lower saddle height using these Bont shoes? Still using same Favero Assioma pedals.

    • @edlaverack
      @edlaverack  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, you may have to drop saddle height by a mm or two, only marginal though.

    You say you got 42.5 (because “they had no 42”). Are you glad you did/feel the 42 would have been too small if these feel right? And what size did you wear in giro and Mavic? Trying to judge sizing

    • @edlaverack
      @edlaverack  Před 3 lety

      I have been wearing 43 in most shoes before this. I was a little surprised that I measured as a 42. They might have been too small, 42.5 seem to be just right but 43 wouldn’t have been bad tbf

    These are supposed to be the "cream de la creme" I've been eying them for a bit now also.

    never liked how thin and cheap the uppers are. it may save like 4-8 grams but i'd rather have a better quality upper maybe even a full grain leather option would be really cool

    Did you know, before Bont produced cycling shoes. Bont originally made one of first carbon fiber boots for Short Track speed skates?
    And through my publication "Speedskating Times" convinced Bont to produce boots for inline speed skaters.
    I feel like a proud father as the company continues to break open new roads.

      Same shoe but 2nd season and still going strong! I'd buy it again or even a higher end model.
