@@jamelakajamal Black people gotta get back to writing, singing and playing soulful music with deep human feeling (happy/joyful & blue/sad). Afro-Americanss have a rhythmic & musical (writing, playing, singing/dancing) special gift from God! Two or 3 generations of incredible black singing voices & soulful instrument players have been lost since just after the dawn of rap/hip-hop? What a loss for humanity.
Then, there is the incredibly negative influence that gansta-ho-bling rap has had on the black community which has been the impetuous for many terrible problems there. Black rap did not start this way. The people with the money bankrolling groups like NWA and Death Row Records steered it that way. Rap started as happy music with pretty positive messages.

Bill Withers could ALWAYS be heard on the radio when I was growing up in the 70s.
I remember my sister who is 18 years older than myself drive around in the car with my other sister and I and hearing him with the windows rolled down in the car in the summer.
    Priceless memories.
And you are right, these artists HAD to put their heart and soul into WHATEVER genre of music they played. They didn't have anywhere near the opportunity to get noticed and, especially a record contract.

I think *BILL WITHERS* was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame within the past two years. So sad to lose him and Kenny Rogers so close together. Two men I would have loved to sing with live. Very inspirational voices. ;-)

If you listen to Bill Withers' *"Grandma's Hands"*, you'll hear where Blackstreet and Teddy Riley got the sample for *"No Diggity"*.

When he's closing his eyes Bill Withers is reliving the experience and the woman that inspired this song. All great art is derived from either pain or loss. This is why some singers can't connect to certain songs. You can hear it in their voice that they have never had the emotional experience they are singing about.
