    Hi all,
    It's always a very special episode whenever I get to speak about something new from Ferrari. Since I have a personal history with Ferrari, having designed cars for them myself, I decided to get the pen and paper out for this episode and show you exactly how I feel this design could have turned out.
    Enjoy,
    Frank

      Little to add to your comment. Every single detail mentioned by Frank makes perfect sense and would improve this already wonderful car. I agree especially with the ideas about the window line (eliminating that ridiculously superfluous black plastic bit) and the rear lamps, which should be round - single or double, who cares?At present they look like contrived sunglass designs.

    • @paulj9821
      @paulj9821 Před 2 lety

      @@DrMacCandless The thing is guys, Ferrari has some of the best designers in the world. They aren't stupid and are well aware that people will take issue with certain design ques. Personally I dislike the modern Ferrari look. The 458 design was iconic and will go down in history as one of Ferrari's best but they whored that look out for over 10 years. Sadly the new direction they have gone towards is very disappointing to me and many other Ferrari enthusiasts. Also the headlights in both this model and the Sf90 are atrocious. I would love to hear why Ferrari decided to with this design path but I fear this will probably never happen.

    Frank, you are a true master and I have great respect for your aesthetic sensibilities. My only disagreement with your re-design centers around the taillights. The large full circles I think could be improved by flattening the top of the circle, allowing for an unbroken continuation of the trailing edge of the wing. I think this would be consistent with the overall design, yet embody the traditional taillight element. Just my opinion.

Amazing to see how Frank only needs to draw one or two lines to get the point across, just a quick stroke here or there...amazing. The difference at the front with the subtle change to the intake was sooo much greater than I expected. For me, the back lights should be lower - more 250LM than 458, and the exhaust needs a complete rethink - it belongs on a Lamborghini, not a Ferrari! It's fascinating to watch this stuff. I like the new rear, but I like the black rocker panel better, it keeps the body slim and raked, plus it ties in the front splitter to the back diffuser. Smoothed in, it looks undefined and a bit thick. I like the mirrors as is also, I think they are a cool design element and should be featured. I'd try a lower window line that extends way back into the buttress, making it even more like a canopy. I think the angular window line matches the rear engine cutout shape. I think smoothing them out makes the car too smooth looking and it loses the nice angular lines. I think the wheels look a bit on the delicate side, like they would twist if given too much power, if the spokes were a bit thicker, I think they would look better.

Please could you review the design of the new Subaru BRZ? You could compare it to the old model or compare the design against the Toyota GR86 interpretation. The recent change re taillights at Ferrari looks like they belong on a Corvette. Round but possibly smaller than the revised version. Door changes are a big improvement. Roof in carbon fibre maybe instead of black to slim it down.
    I just don't like the trend to dress up exhausts. Twin straight black pipes like 488 that mirrored the taillights.. Functional, purposeful, deliberate, end of story!

    Fantastic reviews etc., they give an insight for a car design that I've never seen before. Now that I've started watching these, I won't be able to stop until I've watched them all. Great work, great designer. My first car was a 1955 Citroen L15 and over the next few years I progressed to a 1965 Citroen DS21. I've subsequently owned several more, all post-1967 that have the new "Shark" nose. I rate these as the best looking car of all time! I'm sure it would be challenging for Frank to provide a breakdown of the design process for these and I would be absolutely thrilled to see it. Is that a big enough hint?

    Great review; I like the changes (for the most part) that you made. However, giving the Honda E Concept a score of 10 is absurd. It is a boring, drab, vapid awful "design." Honda has not made a car with a good exterior design in 30 years. The original (and even the 2nd generation ) Honda CRX's were excellent, well thought out designs.
